Lunges, sit-ups and push-ups serve as excellent options you can try during this time. Getting exercises on a regular basis is extremely beneficial but might become a next to impossible task as you have to manage both the home and work frontier. Stay Hydrated

You can propel your weight loss journey during a pandemic by starting your day with two glasses of water in an empty stomach. WHO recommends substituting sugar-based beverages with water as the latter can limit calorie intake into our body and keep us hydrated along the way. Our body comprises 60% fluid which assists with transportation of nutrients, creation of saliva, maintenance of body temperature etc. Foods having high water content like oatmeal and broth-based soups take longer to chew and get absorbed by our body. This helps in keeping us fuller for longer. 

Maintain Good Posture

People are not used to working from home and this is causing a lot of problems with their posture. Everyone cannot afford a home office and have to mostly make-do with kitchen tables, beds or sofas. Using a good chair can maintain your posture as you work from a home setup. You should also take small breaks every now and then and stretch your back to keep back pain at bay. It is also necessary to place the monitor at eye level by piling up a few books or angling a lever-arch file. Sitting straight with your knees bent at 90 degrees will relieve extra pressure from your back. You should also make it a point to support your arms either on the chair’s armrest or the table. If you are thinking of changing your posture, then you can stand and work for some time. During this time, you need to ensure that your lower back remains straight and you do not slouch your shoulders.

Large Black Bear Spotted Roaming Gaston’s Bessemer City

This morning at about 10:30am, a large black bear was spotted roaming across the lawns of several residents in Bessemer City.

The creature was first spotted on East Florida Ave. and another sighting was reported on East Washington Ave., according to Bessemer City Police.

North Carolina Wildlife officials are now working with the Bessemer City Police Department to find and relocate the bear to keep residents safe.

Bear sightings have been increasing around the Charlotte region over the past couple years as development continues to push into more rural areas.

Last July, emergency crews were called out to Mooresville to get a large bear down from a tree, a black bear sent shoppers running at the Stonecrest Shopping Center, and a large black bear was also recently spotted rummaging through neighborhood trash cans in Waxhaw.

A Kid Again families from throughout Central Carolinas will experience a special day at Carowinds on June 27 as the nonprofit hosts its first-ever in-person adventure.

“Since our Chapter officially launched in March 2021, the interest from the community has been incredible,” said Ed Paat, A Kid Again Central Carolinas Executive Director. “To date, we have nearly 250 families from across the Carolinas enrolled in our program. We’re thrilled to see them all in person at our first official Adventure, and thank our partners at Carowinds for making this happen.”

The mission of A Kid Again is to provide hope, happiness and healing for children with life-threatening conditions and their families through regular, cost-free Adventures. At the Carowinds Adventure, A Kid Again families will have a special day at the park including goodie bags and a picnic lunch at The Grove with a special appearance from the PEANUTS gang.

“Our community is fortunate to have the new Central Carolinas chapter of A Kid Again here, and we’re proud to support them,” said Manny Gonzalez, Carowinds vice president and general manager. “This Adventure gives families the opportunity to leave their cares at the front gate, have fun and make special memories together.”

To ensure the safety of participants, A Kid Again’s Carowinds Adventure will be following COVID-19 protocols, as per current CDC guidance.

Nissan Ariya

The Ariya is described by Nissan as the “ultimate expression of style and technology”, and with its design aesthetic of “Timeless Japanese Futurism”, it sure is a unique and standout car in the typically mainstream range. Up front, the Ariya’s V-Motion grille demands attention with 20 LED lights that illuminate Nissan’s new logo which is displayed atop a 3D pattern. The aerodynamic grille also houses the Ariya’s ProPilot advanced driver-assist sensing system apparatus. A wide yet slender physique combined with an aggressive front end and coupe-styled rear make the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan look like it drove straight out of your favorite sci-fi. Climb into the cabin and you’d certainly be fooled into thinking you’re in one of the spaceships from that sci-fi. Splayed across the entire dashboard is a full-width MBUX Hyperscreen that spans over 56 inches in width. It’s made up of a 12.3-inch drivers display, 17.7-inch central display, and another 12.3-inch passenger-side display.

That’s just the start to the futuristic aesthetic and ultra-advanced specs with 190 LEDs designated to the active ambient lighting setup, no less than 350 sensors working for the driver-assist and safety suite, and specced out seats that feature a Power Nap function which when activated reclines the seat, closes the panoramic sunroofs sunshade, and more to create a calm atmosphere.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Known for its muscle-car design and raw performance, the Ford Mustang now takes on a new agenda, a futuristic one as a performance EV. It keeps its pony car aesthetic but combines it with a more contemporary look. Under the hood in place of the usually robust and loud combustion engine you’d find in a pony car, it features one of many electric motor options with outputs varying between 266 and 480 horsepower. The fastest version sprints from 0-60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds. In terms of technology, the Mach-E comes pre-installed with Ford’s own version of autonomous driving capabilities – Ford Co-Pilot360 Active Drive Assist system which includes a network of 100,000 miles of highways in the USA and Canada. 

Rivian R1T Truck

The Rivian R1T is a brutal contender within the EV space, bringing with it a genuinely futuristic and one-of-a-kind aesthetic and performance figures that really push the boundaries of EV capabilities. On a straight, the large midsize pickup truck can launch from 0-60 mph in around three seconds flat. Rivian claims that certain models will be able to reach over 400 miles on a single charge, a figure that is yet to be matched by even Tesla. The truck will also be able to tow up to a maximum of 11,000 pounds thanks to 750 hp and its flexible ‘skateboard’ chassis, quad electric motors, and independent air suspension. Rivian also claims that even the largest battery pack that’ll be offered will be able to be charged from five to 80 percent in under an hour.A futuristic and minimalist cabin sets the tone for the interior, and advanced specs like Level 3 autonomous driving is just the start. 

Aston Martin Valhalla

Within the hypercar arena, the Aston Martin Valhalla leads the race to futurism. It was designed and built in partnership with the Red Bull Formula 1 team and will even feature in the upcoming James Bond movie. Its duckbill front end, prominent front, side, and rear air intakes and vent lend to its very out-of-ordinary aesthetic. A twin-turbocharged hybridized V6 engine will deliver all the power from the middle of the lightweight racer. Only 500 iterations of the Valhalla will ever be made and with an MSRP of well over one million dollars, the Valhalla will likely not be the car of the future, but an interesting rarity of its time. One would be lucky to even get to test drive this novelty.

Pete Sampras vs. Andre Agassi

Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi are widely regarded as the two best American tennis players of all time. They first met at the match in 1989 that Agassi won 6/2 6/1. They were rivals until Sampras retired in 2002.

Sampras and Agassi competed against each other 34 times. Agassi won 14 of those matches, while Sampras managed to win 20 times. What’s interesting is that nearly half of their encounters were during finals. Namely, Sampras and Agassi played each other 16 times in the finals, and Sampras snatched nine victories. 

Pete’s and Andre’s polar opposite personalities were additional factors that made the matches between these two exciting. They last met in 2002 at the US Open. Sampras won the tournament and retired from tennis.

However, the absolute wildest match these two played was in the quarter-finals of the US Open in 2001, and it featured four tie-breakers.

Steffi Graf vs. Monica Seles

Steffi Graf’s and Monica Seles’s rivalry lasted for a decade, and it was one of the greatest ones ever recorded. The rivalry could’ve been even fiercer if it wasn’t for the shocking incident when Graf’s fan stabbed Seles with a knife in her shoulder during her match with Magdalena Maleeva in 1993.

Graf and Seles met on the court for the first time in 1989. After a decade of rivalry, Steffi Graf and Monica Seles met only 15 times, out of which Graf won 10 matches. Boris Becker and Edberg are legendary tennis players who dominated the scene during the 1980s. Once players like Connors and McEnroe dropped in ranking, Edberg and Becker were quick to climb to the top. Their first encounter ended in Edberg’s favor when the Swede bested Becker 6/4 6/4. In total, they played 35 matches, and Becker won 25. 

The highlight of Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker’s rivalry was between 1988 and 1990 when the two ended up playing against each other in three consecutive Wimbledon finals. Even though Becker had a better overall score, Edberg managed to win more matches during their head-to-head Grand Slam finals encounters.

Edberg and Becker faced each other four times in major tournament finals, and Edberg won three matches.

It’s worth mentioning that Becker won eight matches in a row against Edberg from 1991 to 1996, which was the year Edberg retired. However, unlike many other names on our list, Edberg and Becker continued their rivalry long after retiring as professional tennis players.

North Carolina just reported its lowest unemployment number in over a year in May’s Unemployment Report. We also recorded a substantially lower unemployment rate of 4.8% than the national average of 5.8%.

According to the report:

“North Carolina’s May 2021 unemployment rate decreased 8.7 percentage points from a year ago. The number of people employed decreased 4,550 over the month to 4,757,351 and increased 605,656 over the year. The number of people unemployed decreased 11,691 over the month to 239,523 and decreased 407,991 over the year.”

Our state saw it’s biggest increase of workers in the Leisure & Hospitality Services with 7,600 jobs added last month, and Trade, Transportation & Utilities with 2,100 jobs added last month.
