Charlotte Ranked One Of The Hottest Hipster Markets in America (Higher Than Asheville)

0

Yelp and Realtor.com recently teamed up to release their latest ‘Hottest Hippster Markets in America’ list, and Charlotte made the list!

According to the press release, “Yelpers are great at identifying up-and-coming areas and businesses, which allows us to predict trends as well as uncover detailed data on what’s happening in local economies right now,” said Carl Bialik, Yelp data editor. “While ‘hipster’ is something of a cliche, it turns out to be a useful term to uncover the types of businesses and attributes we often associate with cool hunters, such as visually appealing interiors and less touristy parts of town.”

The list analyses the highest concentrations of ‘hipster’ businesses for home buyers looking to embrace indie culture, using the number of times the word ‘hipster’ is mentioned in each city’s Yelp reviews, and how many ‘hipster-type’ business per capita are in each city.

It may not be a surprise that Charlotte is now one of the most hipster markets in America, given our growing coffee scene, thriving craft breweries, hardcore disc-golf community, and our massive annual hippie festival, but what may be surprising is how high we ranked.

Charlotte came in at #15, ranking higher than Denver, Fresno, CA, and even Ashville.

We were given an overall hipster score of 93.6 and Asheville was given an 83.6 – even Greensboro made the list at #43, scoring a 79.5.

NC County Passes Resolution To Add “In God We Trust” To All Public Vehicles

0

Alamance County officials have just passed a resolution that now requires all county vehicles to permanently display “In God We Trust” on their bumpers.

The resolution reads, “The county desires to display this patriotic motto on all county vehicles in order to express confidence in our society.”

About 3 years ago, the police department in the town of Stallings, NC made a similar decision by adding the phrase to the back of all patrol cars.

“In God We Trust” became the official US motto in 1956 and has been on U.S. currency since 1864.

Economic Impact of NBA All-Star Weekend In Charlotte Estimated At Over $100 Million

0

According to a new statement by the Charlotte Regional Visitor Authority (CRVA), the total financial impact of the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend will likely exceed $100 million for the City of Charlotte. That impact was felt most by our local hotels, restaurants, shops, and venues by the spending of over 150,000 fans that came to our city over the weekend.

CRVA CEO Tom Murray said the weekend also put a remarkably positive light on our city’s sense of community in front of a global audience.

“I sensed even at the host reception… a real sense of camaraderie of our community and that can’t do anything but help our community,” Murray said.

That sense was heightened during the NBA All-Star Game itself when NC natives Anthony Hamilton and J. Cole sang the National Anthem and performed during the halftime show.

The NBA also donating millions of dollars for new locker rooms, basketball courts, teacher resources, and packed student backpacks across our city.

Kaepernick Considering Future With Carolina Panthers

0

Now that Colin Kaepernick’s lawsuit against the NFL is settled, his attorney went on CNN and talked about what he thinks might be next for the controversial QB.

With Cam Newton’s return questionable next year, Attorney Mark Geragos told CNN’s Ana Cabrera that he thinks Carolina might be one of the most likely candidates to recruit his client “within the next two weeks.”

“(T)he natural would be if Cam Newton is out, then the natural place to be is to play with Eric (Reid) in Carolina. I mean can you imagine? And you’ve got an owner there,” Geragos stated. The Panthers’ liberal new owner, David Tepper, did recently approve the extension of controversial safety Eric Reid, who both played with and kneeled with Kaepernick in San Francisco.

Geragos also commented of Kaepernick, “He absolutely wants to play. He wants to compete at the highest level. I mean this is a competitive young man… This is someone who’s in his prime. You get smarter at that position, and he’s wise beyond his years.”

Do you think the Panthers should sign Kaepernick?

Carowinds Opening NC’s First ‘Double-Launch’ Coaster – Hurling Riders 0-42 mph in 2.5 Seconds

0

Carowinds is about to open their newest roller coaster – The Copperhead Strike.

According to their website, “it will be the first double-launch roller coaster in the Carolinas. “Double launch” means not only does the ride take off at an incredible 0 to 42 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds, but midway through, a second thrust of acceleration launches you into the next half of the experience. A series of fast, tight, close-to-the-ground maneuvers are tangled with five head-over-heels inversions — the most of any double launch coaster in North America. What’s more, this serpent of a ride never lets up throughout the entire chase – over half a mile of steel and adrenaline.”

You can experience the ride for yourself by watching the official POV animation here;

Buying a Prom Dress in Charlotte: 3 Benefits of Inexpensive Dresses

0

When it comes to finding a prom dress, the search can be overwhelming. There are many stores and styles to choose from. However, as many people will tell their teenage friends and family, it’s best to find a dress that isn’t a financial burden.

Cheap prom dresses have many benefits. They can be easily worn without much stress and then donated or even kept for future events. There are a few primary reasons to consider buying an inexpensive dress.

It’s a Single Event

Unlike a suit or other clothing, you may only wear your prom dress once. As older adults know, prom dress styles can change rapidly from year to year. Even if you think you might give the dress to a younger sibling or a friend, that style may not be in fashion even a year or two later. It’s often best to let each person pick out their dress.

This is why you should look for a cheap prom dress.

Finding a dress that’s easy on your budget will also allow you to give it up easily. Many people find that they wouldn’t wear the dress again. If you haven’t spent much money on it, you’ll see that you can give it to someone else or donate it to a local charity.

Spend On Other Costs

The cost of going to prom has increased each year. Costs can be high for a variety of reasons. The prom tickets, dinner before prom, renting a limo, and more all add up. If you enjoy some pampering the day of prom, then you might be interested in going to a spa or having a manicure. All of these costs are not bad ways to spend your money, but you may need to find other ways to cut back. If you can spend a little less on your prom dress, then you’ll probably be happier when overall costs go up.

Less Stress on the Big Night

Prom dresses rarely end the night in one piece. You may find that someone spills punch on your dress. You can also find that the dress is ripped or gets caught on someone’s shoe. For any number of reasons, most dresses don’t end up in good condition by the time the evening ends. Of course, you can have the dress cleaned and repaired. But, if you don’t plan to wear the dress again, you probably won’t mind that it doesn’t end up in great condition. This is why having a cheap dress will allow you to enjoy the evening without having stress about your dress.

These are the primary reasons why it’s a good idea to look for an inexpensive dress for prom night. You may find that it’s easy to spend money on a dress. However, you’re much better off with a lower cost dress. Keep your costs low for the big day by looking at cheap prom dresses to purchase. You may be surprised that saving money helps you enjoy prom more than before.

‘A Day Without Immigrants’ Rally Will March Through Uptown Charlotte Today

0

Local immigrant rights’ groups are planning on marching through Uptown Charlotte today for the annual “Day Without Immigrants” rally.

The rally first started in 2017 with several thousand immigrants and supporters marching through our city to protest the recent policies by the Trump administration.

This year’s march will be largely focused on the recent actions of ICE in North Carolina.

In a press conference last week, Stefania Arteaga, with the activist group Comunidad Colectiva, said;

“Our community was attacked this past week. We cannot allow these escalations to continue. We need policies in place, we need local [elected officials] to speak up and speak clearly about what’s going on … because immigrants are constituents.”

This year’s “Day Without Immigrants” rally is scheduled to begin at noon today in Uptown Charlotte’s Marshall Park.

What do you think about the recent actions of ICE and today’s rally?
