Panther’s Billionaire Owner Pushing For MLS Team in Charlotte By The End of 2019

0

Charlotte is even closer to landing a major league soccer team now that Raleigh is proposing building their own stadium and attempting to attract the Carolina’s first team.

According to a new report from Sports Illustrated, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is increasing his efforts to land one of the 6 new MLS teams now that competition is heating up.

Tepper has already offered to give the Bank of America Stadium a major overhaul to attract the league and other potential teams and events, even suggesting he’d be willing to add a roof over the field.

Panther’s president Tom Glick told SI that Tepper wants a team in Charlotte by the end of this year and will likely be traveling to New York to meet with MLS leaders next month.

SI listed numerous reasons why Charlotte is a likely top contender for one of the new teams;

We have the nation’s 23rd-largest media market that fills a 630-mile wide hole between Washington and Atlanta. We have over 2.5 million residents in our region, 26 Fortune 1000 companies (and growing), and one of the richest men in the world fighting for us (according to Forbes, David Tepper has over 11 billion dollars and is ranked the 118th richest person in the world).

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County issued a joint statement regarding MLS expansion possibilities in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“We’re honored that Major League Soccer is considering Charlotte for expansion…Soccer continues to gain a tremendous following throughout our region as we’ve seen from the international soccer matches we’ve hosted to thriving soccer camps, soccer academies and community programs that are creating the next generation of fans. We’re confident that an MLS team would be successful in the Queen City and look forward to continuing this conversation in the weeks and months to come.”

What do you think about major league soccer coming to Charlotte?

Charlotte Just Became The First City in America Sign Immigration Compact

Charlotte has just become the first city in America to adopt an independent immigration compact.

The Charlotte Compact on Immigration was unanimously signed at this past Monday’s heated city council meeting.

Our city leaders hope that our new compact will continue the immigration conversation and strengthen the communication gap among Charlotte residents with questionable immigration statuses.

The language of the document was left purposefully vague so as not to be challenged by North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature.

The compact specifically addresses 5 points:

1. FEDERAL RESPONSIBILITY

2. STRENGTHENING OUR ECONOMY AND WORKFORCE

3. FAMILIES

4. LAW ENFORCEMENT

5. COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Our city’s new compact was largely inspired by the United Nation’s much more comprehensive global migration compact.

In 2018, The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration was signed by 193 member-states, including the US. The compact was nonbinding, but it marked the first comprehensive effort to address human mobility at the global level, extending human rights and development goals to often ignored people groups, while upholding the ability of each separate country to enforce its own laws.

Just a few months later, the United States became the first member state to leave the compact, arguing that the compact interfered with sovereign law enforcement actions.

City leaders now hope that Charlotte will become a forerunner for many other cities to develop their own internal immigration compacts to improve laws and policies regarding immigrants and disenfranchised people groups.

Charlotte City Council Votes To Approve Controversial Noise Ordinance Amendment

0

Yesterday afternoon, several hundred protestors (most from a group called ‘Love Life Charlotte‘) gathered in opposition of an amendment to Charlotte’s noise ordinance. Despite the protests, signs, and speeches, the city council decided to pass it.

The amendment adds 150-foot ‘noise buffers’ around all schools, houses of worship, or medical facilities (including abortion clinics) during open hours.

The following is a video from last night’s city council meeting, with the discussion about the amendment starting at about 1:04:00 into the video;

The new revisions specificaly restricts any “amplified sound” that may disturb activity within a school, house of worship, or medical building.

The effort to amend the noise ordinance comes after years of controversy over prayer walks that frequently occur outside of ‘A Preferred Women’s Health Center of Charlotte’ on Latrobe Dr. (Charlotte’s busiest abortion clinic).

Supporters of the new amendment say that patients to the center were being harassed by protestors, while opponents of the changes say their free speech will be restricted.

What are your thoughts on the new noise ordinance amendment?

North Carolina’s Free Fishing Day Is Almost Here

All wanna-be fishermen rejoice! North Carolina is about to allow all residents to fish in any public body of water (including in the ocean) without a licence.

July 4th is officially ‘Free Fishing Day’ in North Carolina.

Next Thursday, from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m., all you’ll need to catch your dinner is a rod, a reel, and some bait.

According to NCWildlife.org, all other fishing regulations apply, such as length and daily possession limits, as well as bait and tackle restrictions.

UNC Charlotte Might Soon Become A Part of The American Athletic Conference (AAC)

0

Reports from multiple sources are confirming the Connecticut Huskies are about to leave the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and join the Big East, leaving room for another school to move up the ranks.

The conference has a wide range of choices for a replacement, but most suspect a Conference USA school, since they operate in the same geographical regions and many of the current AAC schools were former C-USA schools.

Out of all the Conference USA schools, UNC Charlotte currently has the largest student body, the fastest growing roster, and arguably the most up-and-coming sports teams (including the recently added 49ers football).

Big East officials are now expected to formally announce the approval of UConn to their conference this coming Thursday at Madison Square Gardens.

What do you think Charlotte’s chances of moving up into the AAC are?

Do you think there’s a better choice out there?

12-Year-Old Gastonia Boy Dies From Fall at Altitude Trampoline Park in Lowell

A 12-year-old boy has just died from injuries he sustained after falling from the “Clip ‘N Climb” structure at Lowell’s Altitude Trampoline Park.

Matthew Lu went to the park with his mother on Wednesday night, 1 day after his 12th birthday.

According to Lowell Police, the boy was not secured by a harness when he fell from a climbing structure. His mother found him unconscious and called 911. He was rushed to Gastonia’s CaroMonth Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, then flown to Levine Children’s Hospital where he died from his injuries 1 day later.

Altitude Trampoline Park’s executive vice president Courtney Wilde sent out a statement the day of the tragic accident:

Yes, there was injury at our park involving a 12-year-old child. We’ve been in touch with a representative from the family. We are getting updates on his condition periodically, and are not in a position to speak for the family. As we get more information we will share it with you. In the meantime, we are taking every step necessary at the park. The rock climbing structure has been closed while we investigate exactly what happened.

Yesterday the trampoline park closed, posting on Facebook, “Due to an injury at the park, and out of respect for the family, the park is closed today.”

Today the park was closed once again;

Lowell Police have reviewed the surveillance footage and decided not to conduct a criminal investigation.

This Clover SC Couple Is Now Selling The Freshest Seafood In The Charlotte Region

In the small town of Clover, SC, Clint and Elizabeth Boyd are hoping to start a new fresh seafood trend.

They have already spent over $40,000 to launch their new company, called “Saltwater Markets“, a fresh seafood, meat and shipping business on Bethel Street. Clint certainly has plenty of experience in the industry, as he recently stepped down from a top executive position at a Charlotte based corporate seafood company.

The couple is betting on a primed market in the Charlotte region that now craves fresh fish but can’t always find it.

clover sc seafood marketSo far, they are primarily relying on a St. Augustine, Fla.-based company to deliver them the freshest catchs — grouper, flounder, shrimp, mahi, snapper, scallops, and lobster.

With the exception of crab legs, nothing sold at Saltwater Markets has ever been frozen, and the crab legs are only frozen because the fishermen freeze them directly on the boat.

The couple is hoping the new Publix on Lake Wylie won’t offer them too much competition, since even Publix can’t compare with the level of freshness the Boyd’s are now able to offer.

6 Windows Winnipeg Styles You Should Consider This Year

0

There are many windows Winnipeg styles in the market. Unfortunately, we don’t know that they exist and most times when we are doing home window replacements, we tend to use the same design of window that was installed previously. Selecting a particular design from the many options of window designs available can be daunting. You need a window style that complements your home décor and also a style that will allow natural light into your home.

Also, the window you choose should be operational as well as fashionable, providing the ability to close and open regardless of the room space available. Here are the main windows Winnipeg styles you should consider this year. Take a look here and be inspired.

  • Bay Windows.

Bold, stunning and sturdy-bay windows are the best windows Winnipeg styles to install in your home if you need some drama and an appealing look. It offers a panoramic view of the outside but still creating a focal point of your room. Though many people believe that bay windows cannot be installed in small rooms, that is not true. Even small rooms can have bay windows and look great.

So, if you need to view what is happening in the outside without being interrupted, consider bay windows. The same applies if you need to make your room more unique and sophisticated.

  • Sliding Windows.

What about if you have a dark kitchen and you need to install a window on the area above the sink? You might think you don’t have a window style that will fit on that small area and open to the outside. But what you don’t know is that there is an option for that.

Most people usually complain about what to do since that area above the sink is small and cannot accommodate single or double hung windows, and at the same time, there is not enough space for the window to open in the inside.

In this case, the best option to choose is sliding windows Winnipeg. It allows you to enjoy plenty of natural light, and at the same time, you can open it easily by sliding on the available space.

Sliding windows are the best options for rooms limited spaces, but desperately in need of lighting. If you add this style of window to such rooms, it gives it a feeling of openness.

  • Hopper Windows.

Everyone knows that darkness is the main problem that faces basements. And to make things even more intricate, the modern basements are used for other different uses such as movie shows and meetings instead of storage spaces.

As such, light is of great importance to the basements, and the only way to achieve that is getting the right windows. That window style is hopper windows. Hopper Winnipeg windows can change any dark space into something breathing in natural light. They come with exterior glasses that allow air in and keep bugs out.

  • Double Hung Windows.

This is one common window style used in most homes. They come with two sashes, which are both movable. One is located at the bottom and the other at the top. This makes it possible to open the window either from the bottom or top. They are excellent window styles to choose if you need to add ventilation to your room. They are also easy to clean.

  • Garden Windows.

Many people don’t know this type of window, ironically, they have seen it. Garden windows look like a box that project out from your home. It appears as if it is floating, and it is best to choose if you are a plant lover or you need to make your home appear unique.

It is best for plant lovers since you can grow plants and flourish well because all requirements are provided.

  • Circle Windows

You are looking for a window, but you don’t need a common style of Winnipeg windows. Don’t worry; circle windows have you covered. Circle windows are increasing in their popularity, and most homes have them now. They transform the look of your home exterior, no matter where it is built.
