Retail Giant Burlington Opening 3 New Stores Across The Charlotte Region

Burlington (formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory) is about to open 3 new giant department stores across the Charlotte region – a surprising trend reversal after the wave of retail closings we’ve seen over the past decade.

The new Charlotte-area stores will include one in Monroe’s Poplin Place Shopping Center (opening this week), a 2nd Concord location at 6390 Bayfield Parkway (opening in October), and Hickory’s first Burlington location in the Hickory Ridge Shopping Center (opening in October).

In total, the company will be opening 100 new stores this year, according to an earnings report from the company.

“We remain very excited by the market share opportunities ahead of us. Our 34% total sales growth year-to-date reinforces our confidence in this opportunity. Meanwhile, we believe that many of the prevailing expense headwinds are being driven by short-term market conditions. We continue to expect significant margin expansion, as these conditions normalize, over the next few years,” Burlington CEO Michael O’Sullivan said.

Along side the new store announcements, the retail giant has also announced a massive national hiring event scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday.

In addition to Burlington’s expansions, a slew of other stores have also announced similar openings, including; Foot Locker, Aldi, and Tractor Supply.

In a new report, Coresight Research, a company that tracks store announcements, said a total of 4,602 store openings have occurred so far this year. Despite the devastation of the pandemic, openings actually outpaced closures for much of 2021.

The report notes that the pandemic upheaval has actually created many new opportunities. As many retails have gone out of business, landlords have become more accommodating, offering new tenants discounts on rent or early exit options if shoppers did not return.

Yes, of course. But which John? Keep in mind that a handful of names were widely common in the first century of Israel. Some of these names include John, James, Judas, and Simon. The frequency with which they arise in historical writings, including Scripture, often makes it challenging to sort out who is “who.” 

In addition, the first-century Jews did not have any last names. Often, a person went by many names. Simon Peter, Peter, Cephas, Simeon, Simon, Simon son of Jonah, Simon son of John—all the same person.

Therefore, who wrote the Gospel of John? 

Who is the author of the Gospel of John? 

The Gospel of John suggests an eyewitness wrote it to the ministry of Christ. According to the Gospel, “This is the disciple who is bearing witness to these things, and who has written these things” (John 21:24). 

It is quite sarcastic that the Gospel of John—of all the four gospels—is the only one that explicitly points to its author, yet it doesn’t name him. You may be thinking, “why?”

One possibility is that the author keeps himself nameless and unidentified out of humility, identifying himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved.

He might have desired to be unidentified, as he was writing in dangerous times so that he did not get in trouble along with the authorities. The tactic might not have worked.

  • Simon, the Zealot
  • James the Less
  • Matthew
  • John
  • James

What about if the relationship of the beloved disciple is intended to be an especially close one? That might indicate he was one of the inner circles of the apostles, whom everyone knows from the other Gospels to have been John, James, Andrew, and Peter. 

Andrew and Peter have been removed, and James, the son of Zebedee, was the very first apostle to be killed. Thus, there would be an enduring rumor that he’d love until the Second Coming. Along with the other three main disciples removed, that would point to John, the son of Zebedee. 

That’s an interesting case. It’s no wonder that the dominant view has been that John the Apostle was the author of the Gospel of John.

To sum up, the internal evidence leaves small room for doubt related to the authorship of the Fourth Gospel. The author was clearly a Jew of Palestinian origin. CMPD officers are now asking for the public’s help in locating an armed and dangerous murder suspect.

According to the department, 29-year-old Malek Moore is the primary suspect in the murder of 29-year-old Gabryelle Aallnutt.

Officers discovered Aallnutt yesterday morning around 5:30am off East 22nd Street in NoDa. She was found not breathing.

Moore is currently wanted for burglary, kidnapping, and murder charges.

Mount Holly Rallying Together To Raise Funds To Save Local Teen’s Life

Born in 2002, Mount Holly’s Staphon Peterson was diagnosed with Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis in 2020. The transplant team at Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham has recommended a life-saving liver transplant. Local volunteers are now trying to raise $60,000 to help save Staphon’s life.

An online campaign has just been set up and has already raised over $2,000 toward the procedure. According to the campaign:

“Up until May 2020, Staphon had what we would consider a normal student athlete life. After overcoming several bone breaks, including both wrist and his collarbone, Staphon has always went into overdrive during recovery. Every injury has pushed him to work hard and be better than he was before. Since the age of 13 Staphon has consistently played and trained for basketball both during the regular season and the off-season.

Unfortunately, last year at the age of 17 he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and was told that he would need a liver transplant within the next year or so. As you can imagine, this was devastating for our entire family, but especially for him. Since then, we’ve spent the last year focusing on quality of life and attempting to keep some sort of normalcy…”

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is now asking for the public’s help in finding a missing Charlotte man.

According to the official alert, “79-year-old George Edwards. Mr. Edwards flew into the Charlotte Douglas Airport on September 5, 2021 and was supposed to be picked up by family members. When they arrived at the airport Mr. Edwards was no longer there. He was last seen gathering his luggage at the airport.”

Police also note that Mr. Edwards has been diagnosed with cognitive and medical issues.
