Charlotte football just made history in by beating Duke last night with a final score of 31-28 – it’s first ever win against a Power 5 team.

After Duke took the lead in the final quarter 28-24 with only 1:44 minutes left to play, Charlotte’s star QB Chris Reynolds completed the next 4 out of 5 passes with a game winning 11-yard toss to Shadrick Byrd, who darted into the endzone to give Charlotte their 31-28 lead with only 33 seconds left to play.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is the most common type of mortgage. Once taken out, the homeowner makes a monthly payment of a fixed amount over the lifespan of the loan. Other mortgage plans like the 15-year and 20-year plans also exist, however, they are far less common since their monthly payment is significantly higher than the 30-year plan.

Biketoberfest is Returning To Charlotte With An Expanded Map and New Stops

Sustain Charlotte is excited to announce the return of Biketoberfest in 2021! They are once again encouraging Charlotteans to discover fun and easy ways to get around Charlotte without driving. For the first time we will be extending this year’s route beyond South End and Center City north through Villa Heights, Optimist Park, Midtown, and NoDa. The route will showcase some new bike infrastructure, the Blue Line, plus new and old local businesses, parks, and greenways along the way.

The unique, scavenger hunt-style event will take riders along a bike-friendly route with stops at fun destinations and will culminate with an after-party at Triple C Brewing Co. There will also be a shorter, more family-friendly route, so bring the kids! Along the route participants will collect stamps in their official Biketoberfest passport. The stamps will then be traded in for raffle tickets at the after party! The more destinations you visit, the more chances you’ll have to win.

Sustain Charlotte started this event in 2014 as a fun way to promote biking for transportation to Charlotte-Mecklenburg residents. Not only does bicycling for transportation promote a healthier lifestyle, but it also reduces transportation costs as well as air pollution and carbon emissions.

WHEN: Sunday, October 24 from 11:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Rain date will be Sunday, November 14.

Company Discharged 230,000 Gallons of Wastewater – Killing Thousands of Fish in Charlotte Creek

A massive discharge of roughly 230,000 gallons of wastewater has resulted in the death of thousands of fish in Charlotte’s Little Sugar Creek.

CharMeck Stormwater Services issued a press statement about the incident yesterday, saying:

“The waste discharge originated from Orbit Energy Charlotte, LLC located at 600 Johnson Road in Charlotte, NC. The discharge was caused by an operational failure at the facility resulting in a discharge of approximately 230,000 gallons of wastewater with the majority contained in basins located on site. The discharge was stopped upon discovery. An undetermined quantity overflowed the basin and entered Derita Branch and Little Sugar Creek. The discharge resulted in a fish kill in Derita Branch and a portion of Little Sugar Creek downstream of the confluence.” 

Orbit Energy produces electricity by liquefying food waste and turning it into methane to burn. The company had a similarly accidental wastewater discharge about 3 years ago and another smaller one about 2 weeks ago.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has said they will take action to make sure the company “restores areas negatively impacted by the discharge” and that they put measures in place to prevent any future unplanned discharges.

One of Charlotte Region’s Most Popular Fairs Canceled Due To Increasing Covid Numbers

One of the Charlotte region’s most popular county fairs has just been canceled due to increased cases of Covid-19.

According to a press release from Cabarrus County, “due to low vaccination rates and community spread of COVID-19, Cabarrus County announced the cancellation of the 2021 Cabarrus County Fair.”

The fair was scheduled to run from September 10th through September 18th and was expected to draw upwards of 80,000 people.

“We’re trying to aggressively protect our schools and hospitals—they are essential,” said Commissioner Morris. “We did all we could to make the fair happen safely, but as we watched COVID-19 infection rates rise, we realized no level of precaution would mitigate community spread.”

This is only the second time the fair has ever been canceled since it first began in 1953.
