Do you love ice cream? Do you love free stuff? Do you love helping people? If you said yes to any or all of those questions, then you’re going to love today’s event in Uptown Charlotte.

Today the Denali Moose Tracks Ice Cream company is setting up in the heart of Uptown Charlotte in an attempt to give away 10,000 free scoops of ice cream for charity. For every scoop of Moose Tracks Charlotteans eat (for free), the company will give $1 to The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte to raise money for local programs.

They’ll be doling out the scoops at the corner of Trade & Tryon today (July 26th) between 11am and 3pm.

According to their Facebook event, “Our goal is to give away ten-thousand scoops of Moose Tracks to raise $10,000 for the great work The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte is doing in our community. YOUR goal is to make sure 10,000 scoops get eaten! :)”

They also note that Scottie Mayfield will be making a guest appearance at the event at some point between 11 and 3.

The Charlotte City Council just unanimously voted to approved North Carolina’s new ‘Brunch Bill’ yesterday, following Governor Cooper’s signing of the bill about 2 weeks ago.

Senate Bill 155 will essentially allows alcohol sales two hours earlier on Sunday mornings (10am instead of the current 12pm) for local restaurants, grocery stores, and breweries.

The new rules go into effect immediately, but people won’t be able to take advantage of it until this coming Sunday (July 30th).

So far, reactions on social media have been pretty positive;

No discussion or opposition surrounding Brunch Bill. Alcohol can now be served at 10 a.m on Sundays starting this Sunday. 🙌🏻 I'm out.

Several of the local breweries around South End, including the Unknown and the Wooden Robot, are praising the new law. It will allow them to open for business before Panther games, instead of just opening their parking lots to tailgaters.

Harris Teeter, Publix, and Food Lion have also released statements saying that customers have long demanded alcohol sales before noon on Sundays and that they will be adjusting their hours to take advantage of the new law.

Charlotte’s very own Gregory Pope is now a finalist in Lay’s potato chip contest for their newest flavor.

He’s now in the running to win $1 million if his Fried Green Tomatoes flavor wins first place.

When the contest was first announced back on January 12th, Pope immediately knew he needed to submit his traditional southern family recipe.

About 6 months later, Pope found out his flavor had been selected as a finalist and he was flown to New York City for the big announcement of the top 3 flavors.

According to Lay’s press release, the top 3 include;

• Lay’s Kettle Cooked Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese: Lindsay Hoffman realized her calling while sitting in her kitchen in Gainesville, Fla. on a Wednesday morning. With this chip idea, she could finally combine her morning ritual, favorite breakfast meal and her favorite leisure activity of eating Lay’s potato chips into a single bite – can’t get much better than that.
• Lay’s Wavy Fried Green Tomato: Gregory Pope gets nostalgic when he thinks back to his family get-togethers in Georgia where fried green tomatoes – salted and peppered – were always the centerpiece of their meals. He fondly remembers watching his dad skillfully prepare this delicious feel-good dish which also inspired his potential $1 million dollar idea.

The popular maker of baked beans – Bush’s – has just issued a national recall for several varieties of it’s baked beans due to defective side seams.

They note that the defective side seams may cause the cans to leak or allow for harmful bacteria to grow inside the product.

According to their official recall, anyone who has 28 ounce cans of BUSH’S® Brown Sugar Hickory Baked Beans, Country Style Baked Beans and Original Baked Beans should dispose of them immediately. “This recall was initiated after our internal quality assurance checks identified the issue. Subsequent investigations indicated a temporary quality issue from one of our can suppliers.”

The specific recalled cans include the following;

— Bush’s Best Brown Sugar Hickory Baked Beans 28 ounce with UPC of 0 39400 01977 0 and Lot Codes 6097S GF and 6097P GF with Best By date of Jun 2019

— Bush’s Best Country Style Baked Beans 28 ounce with UPC of 0 39400 01974 9 and Lot Codes 6077S RR, 6077P RR, 6087S RR, 6087P RR with the Best By date of Jun 2019

— Bush’s Best Original Baked Beans 28 ounce with UPC of 0 39400 01614 4 and Lot Codes 6057S LC and 6057P LC with the Best By date of Jun 2019

The company said that customers should dispose of any recalled cans immediately, even if they appear to be fully sealed.
