A multiple-vehicle crash occurred this morning at the corner of Billy Graham Parkway and South Tryon.

According to CMPD, 2 people were pronounced dead on the scene;

CMPD is conducting a traffic fatality at S. Tryon St and Billy Graham Hwy. Two people have been pronounced deceased at this time. Southbound S. Tryon St is closed at Pressley Road and westbound Billy Graham is closed at S. Tryon while detectives investigate this incident.

MEDIC reported that 3 additional individuals were transported to CMC with life-threatening injuries.

As of 2:00pm this afternoon, all lanes from Woodlawn to Billy Graham are still shut down, as well as south-bound S. Tryon Lanes, and the onramp onto S. Tryon from I-77 South.

A new report by Rent Cafe just named Charlotte as having one of the year-over-year rental rate increases in the nation.

According to the report, “fewer than expected apartment deliveries this year are increasing competition among existing apartments, pushing up the national average rent by another 3.1% year over year, to $1,412 in August. The national average monthly rent swelled by $42 since last August and $2 since last month. Above-average numbers of renters renewing leases at the end of the summer and heightened demand from college-age renters are also contributing to the rise in rents this time of year.”

Some of the largest increases were in Orlando (7.7%), Phoenix (6.8%), and Charlotte (5.2%), while Manhattan (1.9%) and Washington, D.C. (2.1%) saw some of the slowest growing rents in this category. The biggest net changes were felt by renters in Los Angeles, which pay $102 more per month this August compared to last year.

The above ranking was compiled using data across the 252 largest cities in the US. The report is exclusively based on apartment data related to buildings containing 50 or more units. Our report includes cities with populations over 100,000 and a rental stock of at least 2,900 apartments in 50+ unit buildings.

President Trump is now en-route to the Queen City where he will make two stops to sign a new executive order and host a fundraiser for North Carolina congressional candidates.

According to the White House, at around 2:00 pm Friday afternoon, President Trump will stop at Central Piedmont Community College’s Harris Conference Center in the Elizabeth Neighborhood, where he’ll deliver remarks and sign an executive order titled “strengthening retirement security in America.”

The President will then travel south to the Carmel Country Club where he will hold a private fundraiser for North Carolina congressional candidate Mark Harris (9th district – Republican) and U.S. Representative Ted Bud (13th district – Republican).

The North Carolina Republican Party announced earlier this week that the event location was changed from the Trump National Golf Course on Lake Norman to the Carmel Country Club in Charlotte.

Tickets are still available, ranging in price from $1,000 to $25,000.

CMPD is now warning Charlotte residents to expect delays throughout the day along the President’s route.

Significant delays can be expected on Billy Graham Parkway, Interstate 77, and in South Charlotte in the Johnston Road and Carmel Road areas.
