This Charlotte Company Is Creating The World’s Most Advanced Swim Suits For Team USA

Speizman team usa suits charlotteTeam USA’s rower’s team has chosen to use a Charlotte company to design their suits (known as ‘unisuits’) for this year’s Olympics in Rio.

It’s taken the Speizman International Seamless Development Lab in Charlotte over a year and a half to perfect their newest design.

The high-tech suits, made from polyester and nylon, will fit like a “second skin” and will be much lighter and stronger than any other rowers suit in prior years. The company also worked in anti-microbial elements to protect the athletes from Rio’s polluted waterways.

Speizman has is producing a total of 290 U.S. Olympic rower suits, as well as five unisuits for the Nigerian Olympic team.

Hopefully these suits will help to bring home some more Olympic gold for America, and some more local pride for Charlotte!

The 2016 Olympics will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to 21.

‘No Swimming’ Advisory Issued After 20,000 Gallons of Raw Sewage Spilled Into Lake Norman

raw sewage pumping into lake normanThe Lincoln County Department of Public Works has confirmed that approximately 20,000 gallons of untreated sewage has now spilled into Lake Norman.

The discharge lasted roughly 45 minutes, starting at about 6 p.m. last night after the pump station on Burton Lane in Denver, N.C. experienced a malfunction, according to Chris Henderson of Lincoln County Public Works.

The station has since been repaired, but a no-swim advisory was immediately issued by the Lincoln County Health Department.

Mecklenburg County has also now issued its own no-swim advisory (including the Ramsey Creek Beach) today after their water sampling results revealed elevated fecal coliform levels in the water.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will keep sampling the water until results fall within safe levels, and will lift the swimming ban at that time.

We will update this article as soon as we receive new information.

UPDATE: 7/23/2017 3:15pm After re-testing the water around Ramsey Creek Beach yesterday, the county has now deemed it safe to swim in. County officials say the beach will re-open Sunday at 10 a.m.

NBA Pulls All-Star Game Out of Charlotte After North Carolina Refused To Remove HB2

5

nba all star game moves out of CharlotteThe NBA has just announced that they have made the decision to pull the All-Star game out of Charlotte and move it to another city (New Orleans is the leading contender at this point).

“While we recognize that the NBA cannot choose the law in every city, state, and country in which we do business, we do not believe we can successfully host our All-Star festivities in Charlotte in the climate created by HB2,” the league commented in a statement.

The NBA has been one of the most vocal opponents of North Carolina’s HB2 since it was first passed back on March 23rd. The major clauses of HB2 initially included; #1 banning cities from adding any new protected classes to non-discrimination ordinances (such as LGBT or gender identity), #2 prohibiting any local minimum wage increase beyond what is set by the state, and #3 stipulating that in all public facilities across the state, people must use the restroom that corresponds to their biological sex.

After several major musicians canceled their shows in North Carolina, PayPal decided not to hire 400 new employees in the state, and the NBA continued to threaten to pull the All-Star game, Governor McCrory signed Executive Order 93. The new order; #1 added sexual orientation and gender identity protections for state employees, and #2 gave private businesses and local governments the right to establish their own non-discrimination policies.

The NBA remained persistent, however, that they wanted the entire HB2 law removed from the North Carolina books, and today, July 21st, they officially pulled out.

The Charlotte Chamber of Commerce released the following statement:

“Charlotte has been and will continue to be a city that embraces and promotes diversity, inclusiveness and equality.  We oppose discrimination in all forms.

We are disappointed that the NBA All Star Game is being moved elsewhere.

We will continue working with local, state and federal representatives to pursue policy solutions that uphold fairness and equality for everyone.  We will continue to work to ensure that Charlotte continues to be on open, welcoming and safe city for all people, including members of the LGBT community.”

Governor Pat McCrory released the following statement:

mccorry executive order

“The sports and entertainment elite, Attorney General Roy Cooper and the liberal media have for months misrepresented our laws and maligned the people of North Carolina simply because most people believe boys and girls should be able to use school bathrooms, locker rooms and showers without the opposite sex present.

Twenty-one other states have joined North Carolina to challenge the federal overreach by the Obama administration mandating their bathroom policies in all businesses and schools instead of allowing accommodations for unique circumstances.

Left-wing special interest groups have no moral authority to try and intimidate the large majority of American parents who agree in common-sense bathroom and shower privacy for our children. American families should be on notice that the selective corporate elite are imposing their political will on communities on which they do business in, thus bypassing the democratic and legal process.”

The NC Values Coalition released the following statement:

“We are disappointed that Commissioner Silver has decided to cancel the League’s commitment to the City of Charlotte, the Charlotte Hornets, and the people of North Carolina over the League’s desire to give in to the bullying by radical left-wing groups like the Human Rights Campaign and Equality NC. The League has decided that advancing a political agenda that embraces allowing grown men into the bathrooms and showers of young girls is more important than protecting the privacy and safety of their fans. Our telephone conversations with the customer service staff at the Superdome Box Office this week indicate the stadium in New Orleans has the same bathroom policies as Time Warner Arena in Charlotte.

It is ironic that the NBA would choose to relocate their All-Star game to the State of Louisiana since last month the state joined North Carolina and 22 other states to stop President Obama’s transgender bathroom directive granting boys access into girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms and shower facilities in schools and universities.”

What are your thoughts about HB2 and the NBA pulling out?

Tabor, of Matthews, N.C., is currently in good condition.

Poimboeuf, of Charlotte, N.C., is now in critical condition.

Cameron Poimboeuf was visiting his girlfriends family for the week along with Jansen Tabor, who was one of the family members.

When Tabor came-to in the hospital, he told police that the two immediately ran for shelter when the rain started, and suddenly he found himself waking up on the sand after the lightning strike.

Rock Hill Police And Residents Met Downtown For A Massive Demonstration of Unity

rock hill unity meetingLast night hundreds of Rock Hill residents and police officers came together in a massive demonstration of unity in downtown.

York County Councilman Bump Roddey initially came up with the concept after the attack on officers in Dallas.

“There are concerns on both sides, from citizens as well as law enforcement, and we want to make sure that we bridge the gap so citizens in this area feel comfortable with law enforcement,” Roddey commented last night.

Half-way through the event, Rock Hill Sheriff Bruce Bryant gave a speech to the crowd, telling them to take time to talk to each other, to pray for their children, and to obey authority. He also talked about the hardships that police officers endure on a daily basis, and the fact that no officer like making arrests.

Several local Rock Hill churches also joined the event last night – several groups around the crowd could be seen holding hands and praying and singing songs of hope and joy.

Happy 80th Birthday Big Cat – New Epic Tribute Statue Installed Outside The Panther’s Stadium

Happy 80th Birthday to Jerry Richardson! He’s one of the only NFL player in history to become an NFL team owner – fighting tirelessly for years to bring the first professional football team to the Carolinas – Jerry is now without a doubt one of the most beloved men in the south.

As a tribute to Mr. Richardson, the Panthers have just installed an epic new statue in front of the stadium featuring it’s founder and current owner and two epic looking Panthers on either side of him;

We found this video from a few years back that pays tribute to the man we now call ‘Big Cat’:

jerry richardson birthday3Richardson was originally born in Spring Hope, North Carolina. After completing high school in Fayetteville, North Carolina, he entered Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Richardson considers his greatest honor being elected team captain in 1958. In 1983, he was chosen to Wofford’s All-Time Football team as a receiver.

Drafted in the 13th round by the defending world champion Colts, Richardson played two seasons in the NFL, earning Colt Rookie of the Year honors in 1959. He caught a historic touchdown pass in the 1959 NFL Championship Game from quarterback Johnny Unitas.

Following his NFL career, Richardson embarked on a successful business career. Richardson used his 1959 NFL championship bonus with the help of Charles Bradshaw to open the first Hardee’s franchise in Spartanburg. The two ended up owning the Hardee’s business 50/50. The business expanded rapidly under his hands-on management style. From headquarters in Spartanburg, he co-founded Spartan Foods, which was the first franchisee of Hardee’s. He later was the CEO of Flagstar, which was the sixth largest food service company in the nation, controlling 2,500 restaurants and 100,000 employees, and retired in 1995.

On October 26, 1993, Richardson became the first former NFL player since George Halas to become an owner when the Carolina Panthers were unanimously awarded the NFL’s 29th franchise.

Richardson played a prominent role locking out the NFL players in 2011 and in negotiating a new players agreement. In 2015, he was elected to the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.

The new UNCC 49ers Football stadium was named after him, and Wofford College is currently bulding the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
