Over 500,000 Charlotte Area Time Warner Customers Have Just Been Switched To Spectrum

chartercommunicationsYesterday it became official, Time Warner Cable is no more!

Spectrum Cable (the company that bought Time Warner last year) officially changed over 500,000 Charlotte area customers (according to data from Nielsen.com) to their services on Tuesday, March 14th.

Charlotte-area customers will now use the Spectrum app on their phone, and will see all the logos on their TV change to Spectrum. You’ll also be seeing Spectrum-labeled trucks in your neighborhood. if you haven’t already.

Many people are excited for the switch, since Spectrum offers fewer, more simplified options.

Company spokesman Mike Pedelty commented “we got to the point where we called it Frankenbundle. We kept adding things and confusing customers, where they didn’t understand what we were  adding on and how it ws packaged.

He says that most customers can now choose from three basic bundles – and there’s no more fighting for a promo rate every year, when your current package expires.

Your package will remain as long as you keep the service.

Customers who keep their old Time Warner service will since an increase in their internet speeds – if you have a top download speed of 50 megabits per second, you’ll be bumped up to 60 megabits per second. Most current customers will also see a reduction in their bills, since Spectrum doesn’t charge extra for modem fees.

CharteSpectrum’s parent company, Charter Communications, bought Time Warner for $55.1 billion back in May 2016, which now makes them the nation’s second-largest cable provider with more than 25 million customers in 41 states around the country.

1-Year-Old Receives Lifesaving Heart Transplant Seconds After Church Stops To Pray

0

prayer-saved-baby-ellaIn an incredible story of divine provision, Melanie and Mike Leitner witnessed God do the impossible for their little girl Ella.

Back in November, the parents were told from doctors at the Levine Hospital that her girls’s left ventricle had a large mass in it, and that she wouldn’t last more than a week.

She was put on a donor list, and somehow she survived the next two months.

On January 29, Melanie and Mike’s pastor at Abundant Life Foursquare Church felt God tell him to stop the service and ask the entire congregation to immediately pray for little Ella.

A couple hours later, as the family was driving home from church, they received the call that would change their lives – the hospital called and told them that a tiny, perfect heart had just become available for little Ella.

The heart was immediately air-lifted to the Levine Children’s Hospital where they performed an emergency heart transplant surgery on Ella…it was a success!

Molly Grantham originally posted a brief version of the whole story on her Facebook page, which has now been shared over 200 times:

Please continue to pray for baby Ella and the Leitner family!

Town Of Davidson Planning For Massive New Downtown Development

0

catalyst downtown davidson ncThe Town of Davidson is in the final planning stages of their new 3.5 acre catalyst project that will be built on top of the municipal facilities between the North and South Main Street areas.

The Davidson Economic Development team recently presented the updates on the proposed project.

“The majority felt civic presence is important to remain downtown,” Fleming told commissioners. “And they felt the town should own Town Hall.” Director Kim Fleming remarked. “Another thing that came up over and over again, poor Birkdale, is no one wants Birkdale in downtown Davidson.”

The new development hopes to satisfy more parking, more retail and office space downtown, a permanent home for the Davidson Farmer’s Market, improved downtown public space, more downtown housing, and increased space for public services.

The town will most likely need to pass a multi-million dollar bond referendum to help pay for the massive new project. Leaders are now working with UNC’s School of Government, to determine the type of private/public partnership that will be required to finance the new development.

What do you think Davidson’s new Catalyst should include?

roy-cooper-state-of-the-state-addressLast night, NC Governor Roy Cooper just delivered his first ‘State of The State’ address to the people of North Carolina. The speech was fairly consistent with the policies he has been speaking about since the start of his campaign, speaking about improving education, fighting our state’s opioid addiction, increasing LGBT rights, helping Hurricane Matthew victims, and changing our state’s ‘Republican’ tax policy.

He also spoke at length about trying to reach across the isle and work with Republicans. “I promise to listen, to engage, to build consensus, to compromise when possible. I promise to fight only when we can’t come to agreement or when you leave me no choice,” the Governor commented during his 30-minute address.

You can watch the entire speech here:

Republican Senator Phil Burger delivered the GOP’s official response to the first State of The State address later in the night. He started off by saying, “Tonight, we heard the Left’s new champion – Roy Cooper – push their vision for the future of North Carolina, except it is not a vision for the future of North Carolina at all. It’s a mirage. It’s merely a retreat to our troubled past.”

Charlotte Was Ranked The Third Best Real Estate Market In America

0

charlotte real estate marketAccording to a recent report by PwC and the Urban Land Institute, Charlotte officially now the third-most attractive real estate market in America.

Charlotte’s rapidly growing population, strong construction presence, and booming economy are the main factors that led to the ranking.

The Charlotte region is about to see some large scale development with the new $600 million Hard Rock Casino, $350 million film studio, and dozens of new high rises in Southend and Uptown.

“Good job and population growth along with the development of urban centers continues to make the market attractive to residents. Interviewees generally feel good about the Charlotte market, although some did express concern that the concentration of the financial services industry may not offer the same level of growth as other more technology-oriented markets,” the ULI report commented.

Dallas ranked #1 and Austin #2, but the Queen City easily beat out its rival southern cities; including Atlanta (No. 5), Nashville (No. 7), and Raleigh (No. 11).

In the survey, ULI advised real estate investors to seek out thriving secondary markets, such as Charlotte, instead of the biggest markets (NYC, LA, Chicago, etc) in order to find more value in investments: “These secondary markets boast lower costs of living—particularly in housing—and strong growth potential.”

“Real Women Provide” Billboard Has Been Put Up To Counter The “Real Men Provide” Billboard

real-women-billboardA new billboard message has just gone up in South Carolina in opposition to the recent controversial billboard in the Winston-Salem area that read  “Real men provide. Real women appreciate it.”

The new billboard message, now displayed in the town of Lexington, SC, just outside of Columbia, reads “Real women provide, Everyone appreciates it,” along with the hashtag “#InternationalWomensDay”.

The billboard first went up last week, created and paid for by the owner of the billboard, Outfront Media.

After the controversial billboard went up in North Carolina, a group of activists, lead by the owner of a Winston-Salem women’s boutique called Kleur, protested the billboard and now plan to erect their own sign in North Carolina with a counter message.

Outfront Media has stated that they are unaffiliated with the NC group, and that they put up the message to promote a positive outlook on women, according to a press release.

What are your thoughts on the billboard messages?

Charlotte’s Two Major Hospitals Have Just Joined Forces To Help The Needy in Charlotte

0

presbyterian-hospital-and-cmc-join-forcesTwo of Charlotte’s biggest health care systems, which have been at war with each-other for decades, have decided to put aside their differences and join forces for the greater good.

According to WBTV, top officers at Carolinas HealthCare System and Novant Health have met at least a half dozen times over the past few weeks to discuss how then can collaborate to provide better health care in Charlotte’s under-served communities.

Last night, the two healthcare organizations invited 40 businesses, religious and educational institutions, local government agencies and nonprofits to meet to discuss ways “to improve the health of Charlotte’s communities whose population health status is significantly challenged.”

The ongoing focus of this new city-wide collaboration will be on helping distressed neighborhoods that don’t have enough health services or access to fresh foods, and where health issues are well above the national average.

“This is a joint opportunity for us to unite resources that will hopefully address long-term outcomes,” Carl Armato, Novant Heath’s CEO remarked, “our two organizations are two of the best in the industry at delivering. … We’re going to have the opportunity to truly transform these communities in unprecedented ways.”
