Shocking Interaction Between Teen and CMPD Officer Is Now Getting National Attention

0

An incredibly powerful encounter between a teenager and a CMPD officer at a local Charlotte gas station is now getting national attention.

A couple weeks ago officer Brad Potter was monitoring traffic in his squad car when a local teenager walked up to his car. He assumed the teen would ask for directions (common for officers at gas stations), but what came out of his mouth stunned the officer.

“Can I pray for you?”

Officer Potter recounted that he was stunned, and after a few awkward moments he said, ‘of course,’ then he said, ‘How about we pray together?’

They held hands for a while and prayed for safety, for the safety of other officers, and for the safety of their community.

After the prayer, Officer Potter walked over to the teenager’s father and thanked him for raising such an incredible son.

The story was posted to ‘Love What Matters’ Facebook page and has already been shared over 4,700 times:

Turner’s father is very proud and hopes his son will inspire others.

Caleb Turner remains humble, using the attention to encourage others.

Primrose School of Ballantyne just lost its license after an ‘inappropriate touching’ investigation into one of its teachers.

On Monday, CMPD arrested Joseph Starnes for inappropriately touching two boys. More charges were filed on Wednesday against Starnes when other victims came forward.

note-to-primrose-parentsAccording to a notice sent out to parents from the school, the NC Department of Early Education has now decided to suspend the license for at least 30 days depending on the appeal process.

Massive Fire Spreading Through Downtown Raleigh

0

One of the biggest fires in Raleigh’s history just broke out tonight in a downtown mid-rise building.

The first first started near the intersection of North Street, West Street, and Harrington St. Every available Raleigh police and fire crew is now responding to the inferno, using water hoses, fire balls, and fire foam in an attempt to stop the fire from spreading.

It isn’t yet clear how many people have been injured or what exactly started the fire.

The fire has now become so unstable that the city is warning the public to stay away from downtown:

Here are some other angles of the massive 5-alarm blaze in downtown Raleigh:

The fire is now so large that it’s smoke clouds are even being picked up on weather radars:

These two images appear to show the start of the fire;

UPDATE: 3/17/2017 – 7:00am

The fire has now mostly been extinguished.

Raleigh Fire Chief John Fanning said that glass is everywhere and is still falling due to the aftermath from the fire.

“This is the biggest fire that I have ever seen in such a condensed area,” Fanning said in his 24 years of experience.

Eyewitnesses accounts say the fire ignited on the second floor, although police and fire officials have still not made an official determination.

We will update this article as we receive more information.

NCDOT About To Issue An Independant Review of The Legality Of I-77 Tolls Lane Contract

0

charlotte-i77At yesterday’s Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization meeting, NC Secretary of Transportation, Jim Trogdon announced a new independent review of the I-77 toll lanes.

He was careful to note that the review would be performed by an independent agency that had no prior involvement with the toll lanes in the past. He also noted that the contract with the independent company would be completed by next week.

It’s unclear at this point if the results of a review could ultimately stop the toll lane project, or if it would just be a way for the NCDOT to appease Lake Norman area voters after all the controversy.

“I personally regret that this has become a divisive issue in this community over the last three years. We can’t change what got us here but we can change where we go next,” Trogdon commented at yesterday’s meeting.

This ‘toll lane review’ is the second of its kind in less than a month. Republican Senator Jeff Tarte also ordered a separate independent review back on February 29th.

In his press release, Senator Tarte noted that, “it is generally acknowledged that this contract has many issues and would not be a template for future state contracts. It is time to ensure all the rules, procedures, protocols and guidelines associated with the RFP and contract were followed in accordance with state and federal laws. If any material issues are identified during this audit we can determine the appropriate action(s) to remedy such. A desired outcome from this exercise will be improvements to future state contractual provisions to optimize the benefits and protect the interests of the citizens of our great state.

The toll lanes have now been under construction for over a year. If they are completed, they will stretch from uptown Charlotte to Mooresville for 26 miles, offering drivers the option to pay a fee to drive in less-congested lanes.

How do you feel about the I-77 toll lanes?

Realtor Was Just Robbed At Gun-Point in South Charlotte Neighborhood

Yesterday morning a Realtor was robbed at gun-point in a South Charlotte neighborhood near the intersection of Emerywood Dr. and Archdale Dr.

In a truly bizarre turn of events, the agent was actually waiting for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police at the home, so that he could file a different report about the home’s recent break-in. Suddenly, the armed robber tapped on his window while he was sitting in his car and demanded all his stuff, according to News Channel 9.

The robbery was announced through a social media neighborhood app and confirmed with the CMPD.

This new robbery now has many agents on an even greater alert, especially after the recent incident of a Realtor being slipped a date rape drug at a Charlotte area open house.

“Sometimes Realtors are showing a house and they’re by themselves so its very important they take all their security measure to stay safe,” commented CMPD Officer Johnathan Frisk with the Crime Prevention Division.

The National Association of Realtors recommended that realtors always keep their cell phone nearby, let someone know where they are, and to always be aware of their surroundings.

Police do not yet have any suspects for the robbery or the break-in at the home. If you have any additional information about this case, please call Charlotte CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600.
