The New Highly Contagious Dog Flu Has Now Reached The Charlotte Region

0

The powerful new Canine influenza has now reached the Charlotte area.

The flu has been mostly spreading at dog shows in other states and has just recently hit North Carolina – there are now two known deadly cases and a woman in Davidson said that all of her seven dogs caught it when they were competing at an out-of-state show.

According to the NCARG, “the virus is highly contagious and easily spread from infected dogs to other dogs through direct contact, nasal secretions (through coughing and sneezing), contaminated objects (kennel surfaces, food and water bowls, collars and leashes), and people moving between infected and uninfected dogs.”

Currently between 5-20 percent of infected dogs develop pneumonia, which can quickly become fatal.

Other symptoms of the new dog flu include coughing, lethargy, nasal discharge and fever and can mimic the highly contagious but nonfatal disease known as ‘kennel cough’.

Many Charlotte-area vets are now recommending that healthy dogs be vaccinated.

The North Carolina agriculture department’s Animal Welfare Section is closely monitoring all cases around the state. You can read up-to-date reports at www.ncagr.gov/vet/aws/canineflu/index.htm.

Topgolf Has Officially Announced Their Second Charlotte Location

0

topgolf-charlotteAfter a successful grand opening of Topgolf’s first location in Charlotte yesterday, the company has now officially announced its second Charlotte location.

Charlotte’s fast-growing population, demographics, climate and business-friendly culture are ideal for Topgolf,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway. “The excitement surrounding the opening of our first venue last week has inspired us to begin pursuing a second location right away.”

The second Charlotte venue would be at the corner of I-85 and West Mallard Creek Church Road, about 26 miles from the first Topgolf Charlotte. The development is now pending final rezoning approval by the Charlotte City Council. Despite the recent protests of the project, it seems likely at this point that the city will approve the rezoning.

The new development would also include 395 apartments and 45,000 square feet of mixed-use space:

NC House Approves HB 746 – Allowing People To Carry Concealed Handguns Without A Permit

0

new-concealed-carry-lawThe North Carolina House has just voted in favor of a new bill that would essentially allow handgun owners to conceal their guns in public without a permit.

House members voted 65-54 Wednesday in favor of the proposal.

The Republican backed House Bill 746, dubbed the “Constitution Carry Act,” would only remove permit requirement for handguns, but not for any other weapons.

The new bill defines a handgun as “a firearm that has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand.” Under HB 746, North Carolina residents who are 18 years or older would be able to carry a concealed handgun in any public or private location that doesn’t already have firearm restrictions.

It would still be against the law to concealed carry a bowie knife, dirk, dagger, sling shot, loaded cane, metal knuckles, razor, shuriken, stun gun or other deadly weapons except on a person’s private property.

The bill would also keep the concealed handgun permit process in place for anyone who needs a permit while traveling in other states.

NC Rep. Larry Pittman originally introduced House Bill 746, arguing that “A gun is a tool, it is only as good or bad as the intentions of the person carrying it. Concealed or open carry makes no difference, except that if we can carry concealed, criminals and terrorists have no idea which lawful citizens just might fight back. The government should not interfere with our freedom to do so.”

Critics of the new bill call the new legislation a “dangerous gun bill that threatened to eliminate some of the state’s common-sense public safety laws.”

HB 746 will still need to pass through the NC Senate before it could go to Gov. Roy Cooper’s desk.

What do you think of the new bill?

0

landon-cassills-home-for-saleOne of NASCAR’s fastest rising stars has a little known side passion – interior design.

Instead of buying a new home in the suburbs, Landon and his wife Kaitlan decided to transform a small house in the heart of Myers Park into a spacious 2-story home filled with modern amenities and historic charm.

Landon and Kaitlan’s Real estate broker David Hoffman had the privilege of meeting the couple for the first time when they decided to sell their newly renovated home. “What I love about Landon is that he is honest, genuine, and respectful. I am always happy when I see that someone in the public eye is a good person behind the scenes too, and that is Landon and Kaitlan. The buyers of this home will get to witness that during the sale themselves,” commented David.

Here’s an exclusive look inside the home of Landon and Kaitlan Cassill:

David and his team at The David Hoffman Group have had the privilege of selling several other professional athletes’ homes in the Charlotte area as well, including Panther’s Shaq Thompson, Jonathan Stewart, and Daryl Worley.
