Yesterday in Tampa Bay, we saw an impressive touchdown throw by Cam, an even more impressive interception by Luke, and perhaps the most impressive pickup technique in football history by our kicker Graham Gano.

Right before the end of the half, with the Panthers up by 10 points and 17 seconds left on the clock, Graham walked up to the ball, step-kicked it to the ref, and nonchalantly turns around.

As impressive as it was, however, it still may not be as good as some of the ‘pick-me’ tricks of other NFL greats;

Yesterday The Panthers secured their 5th win of the season against the Tamba Bay Buccaneers, bringing our record to 5-3 at the season’s half-way point.

Our offense looked decent but considering the Bucs are the league’s third-worst defense, we still have plenty of improvements to make. Cam Newton was solid, with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin, and several clutch runs – leading the Panthers in rushing yards with a total of 44.

Luke Kuekly returned in true form after a concussion scare 2 weeks ago. His return helped solidify the Panthers defense as one of the best in the league, allowing only 279 yards of offense for the Bucs – a season-low for Tampa Bay.

That’s especially impressive, considering the Bucs started yesterday’s game with the league’s top-ranked passing offense and a franchise-best 5-game streak of more than 300 passing yards – yesterday the Panthers crushed that streak, holding them to just 194 passing yards.

Coach Ron Rivera commented after the game that there were “A lot of positive things. We did some good things in all three phases, I thought the guys played well – offense, defense and special teams. We gave ourselves an opportunity to win.”

Yesterday the Saints also won their game against the Bears, giving them a 5-2 record and a first place ranking in the NFC South.

Next week the Panthers will play the 4-3 Atlanta Falcons at Bank of America Stadium (you can buy tickets for next week’s game here).

At last night’s Anderson Area Touchdown Club meeting, Panthers co-owner Mark Richardson, told a crowded room about his family’s plans to sell the Carolina Panthers as soon as his father, Jerry Richardson, passes away, according to USA Today.

“A decision has been made that when he passes away the team will be sold,” commented Mark Richardson. “A plan is already in place; a timeline is in place.”

He avoided mentioning any specifics about the plan or if they plan on keeping the team in the Carolinas, but said he hopes the sale won’t be for some time, as it currently requires the death of his dad.

“Hopefully that won’t be for a long while,” he commented.

The Richardson family first mentioned the possible sale of the team back in 2013, but some thought this was just a negotiating strategy for stadium improvements.

While there’s now a stronger possibility that the Richardsons could sell the team to another city, with the right offer, it seems extremely unlikely. Each year, the Carolina fan base continues to grow, and each year, the team continues to increase in value here in the Carolinas.

According to Forbes, the Carolina Panthers are currently worth about $2.3 billion – over 10 times what Jerry Richardson initially bought the team for back in 1993 ($203 million), and double what we were worth just 4 years ago ($1.06 billion).

While the team certainly has its issues, the Panthers continue to attract solid crowds (with a sellout streak that goes back to December 2002) in a stadium that recently underwent a multi-million dollar upgrade. Whoever buys the team would be a fool to move them.
