New Interactive Map Helps NC Residents Find Low-Cost, Free Internet Service Options

0

The N.C. Department of Information Technology’s Broadband Infrastructure Office has developed an interactive map to help North Carolina residents find free and low-cost internet and mobile service offerings in their area.

“North Carolina is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic with everything we’ve got,” Tracy Doaks, NCDIT secretary and state chief information officer, said. “In these uncertain times, more and more of our residents are being asked to work and learn from home, making access to reliable and affordable high-speed internet more critical than ever.”

The online map is updated daily with new offerings, which include free public Wi-Fi access points for remote learning and working. Service providers offering free or affordable options for high-speed internet can submit their offerings at https://it.nc.gov/internet.

This is part of the state’s efforts to help students and schools bridge the digital divide during the state’s response to COVID-19.

On March 30, Gov. Roy Cooper issued Executive Order 122 to help schools and local governments access state surplus property, including computers.

Executive Order 124, issued March 31, urges telecommunications, cable and internet service providers to give customers more time to pay outstanding bills and to waive fees and interest for late payments as a result of COVID-19. It also urges providers to lift any data caps if they have not done so already.

Charlotte’s Unsung Heroes Continue To Work So The Rest of Us Can Stay Safe – Let’s Bless Them

0

The global COVID-19 pandemic has caused untold amounts of pain and suffering around the world.

Here in Charlotte, we have seen the highest number of active cases and deaths in the Carolinas. Mecklenburg County is now reporting a total of 810 active cases and 8 deaths from COVID-19.

Our city has just entered its 3rd week of a mandatory ‘Stay at Home Order’ in an attempt to limit the spread. While most of us are either working from home, or temporarily laid off, many in Charlotte are still being required to report to work to provide the rest of us with food, utilities, healthcare, and other basic necessities. Most of them are putting themselves in harms way every day without any hazard pay, allowing the rest of us to stay home and stay healthy.

Yesterday I asked the unsung heroes among the Charlotte Stories community to send me their names, pictures, and Paypal/Venmo/Cash App Ids so that we could all have the chance to bless them.

Here are those who responded in the order that I received them in my inbox – please bless any or all of them as generously as you are able:

Madeline Cohen – Food Lion – Venmo @madsmadsmads

This is my boyfriend and myself, Madeline. My Venmo is @madsmadsmads

Taylor Parton – AAA – Cash App $WilliamParton

My name is Taylor Parton, I’ve been towing for about 8 years. I work for AAA in uptown Charlotte! Everyday I put myself in harms way by saving people off of the highways. My hours have been cut due to the stay home order. We practice safety during this pandemic!
Cash app $WilliamParton

John Miller – Atrium Health – Venmo @John-Miller-126

My name is John Miller. I am a medical equipment technician at Atrium Health at 1000 blythe blvd in Charlotte NC. This whole situation is definitely been a game changer. It’s been tiring but I wouldn’t trade my job for anything. I am very grateful to have a job and I love helping people, so in that case, nothing has changed. People need help now more then ever. So I will always answer the bell. Thanks
Venmo is @John-Miller-126

Sarah Ford – Food Lion – Venmo @SarahMFord

My name is Sarah Ford and I work at Food Lion. I am an office associate dealing with money and customer service, but I also work as a cashier and stocker. This pandemic has hit grocery stores like a truck. Customers are really super understanding and grateful, or rude and hateful. I’m hoping they start to realize without everyone out here doing what we’re doing, that they wouldn’t have their stocked up pantries while they’re at home with their families. We aren’t here for ourselves, we’re here so everyone else can have what they need.
My Venmo is @SarahMFord

Louis Luciano – Aldi – Cash App $lucianolouis

My name is Louis Luciano and I work for Aldi Distribution in Salisbury, NC. The picture I have attached is of me after just a few hours in the freezer. The ice that forms on my mask is from working in -20 degrees.

While this is my job and I’m used to these conditions, the pandemic we are currently dealing with causes longer hours as we keep up with demand and as I come into contact with products packaged and shipped from around the world, the risk of me coming into contact with the virus increases.

While I worry about bringing the virus home to my wife and three children, I am proud to be a part of a company that is working hard to provide the community with the things they need as we all commit to social distancing and flattening the curve. My cash app ID is $lucianolouis

Sherika Wilson – Veteran’s Affairs – Cash App $sqw1978

My name is Sherika Wilson an RN with the Veteran’s Affairs. I am a Charlotte native that has been in nursing for almost 17y and just like anyone else have never encountered anything like this. It has put a strain on my relationships at work because I have been exposed in the community to the virus but still have to report for duty and wear a mask daily until my 14d is up. I also have to be cautious of my interactions with my loved ones as well. I am asymptomatic at this point but there is fear associated with it daily of the unknown. So when we say stay home like for real y’all stay home. Cash App is $sqw1978

Denise Ludden – Postmates and Uber – Venmo @Denise-ludden

I work for postmates and uber. I am a mother of three kids. This pandemic has slowed my deliveries and pick up and drops off tremendously so barely able to make ends meet. Venmo is @denise-ludden

Cassie Levigne – CMC Main – Venmo @clevigne12

My name is Cassie. Im a nurse on the progressive care unit at CMC main. Ive been there almost 3 years and have never seen the hospital quite like this. Everyday is different but were trying to get through this all together. #NurseStrong

Venmo @clevigne12

Gus Cottros – Pet Supplies Plus – PayPal @guscottros12

My name is Gus Cottros and I am a manager of a franchised pet store. We are considered essential. My biggest fear is that there are still a good bit of people venturing out. Some are buying non essential  items. I’m not a paranoid person but I’m starting to get that way. Our company did decide to give us all who still work a $1 raise throughout the pandemic. Some of our employees are out of work. Some of us are working twice as hard. Business has slowed down to normal or less. The first two weeks were crazy! We are all tired!n

I also have to ride public transportation to get to work. It is now free to ride but it is on a Sunday schedule which makes it difficult for me to get to work. Not to mention how scary that can be with all the others riding. – My PayPal account is Paypal.me/guscottros12

Robin Sexton-Stallings – MedSpeed – Paypal email is glstallings@hotmail.com

My mom is not computer savvy but her name is Robin Sexton-Stallings and she is an essential worker delivering samples from hospital to hospital for MedSpeed, including the COVID-19 samples and she works extremely hard every day, but only makes $12/an hour, despite being with the company for a few years now. Regardless, her income has been crucial as my dad was out of work most of last year. She is also diabetic and we are worried that her job will cause her to be more exposed despite being vulnerable. Through getting out of the low cars they use and carrying the heavy bags of samples and test equipment from site to site, she even incurred a workplace injury and now has a frozen shoulder that she got some physical therapy treatment for through a workman’s comp case that she won. She is also an artist, with me, at c3 lab, where we are being asked to still pay our rent despite the space being shut down. Her Instagram is @raraworks. Her PayPal is glstallings@hotmail.com

Katherine Holyfield – Foxcroft Wine – Venmo @katherine-Holyfield

My name is Katherine Holyfield. I work at Foxcroft Wine Co. Which has been a small business of Charlotte for nearly 15 years. The South Park and Dilworth locations are still open during these tough times but we’ve had to close the waverly and Greenville stores. FCWC is still serving food and wine and offering many discounts and deals to serve people as well as curb side pick up. I’m so thankful to work for them during this pandemic.
My Venmo is @katherine-Holyfield

Cherish Jordan – Instacart – Cashapp – $CherishJordan

I was actually laid off from my job due to the pandemic of the Corona Virus. I am now doing Instacart to support myself and also as a nice gesture to help those who cannot leave their homes due to the pandemic. There’s a good and bad way this has affected me. For one, a good thing is I am counted as essential and make money to help with bills. The bad part would be that I am out of a 9-5 job and have to struggle a bit. The good thing is that I am alive and healthy. I always make sure I pray for God’s hedge of protection and I also pray for the families and workers who are having to deal with this pandemic. Cashapp: $CherishJordan

Casey Dickson – Novant Health – Venmo @Caseydickson

I work as a CNA at Novant Health in PMC hospital while attending RN school. Im also a volunteer firefighter for the city of Tega Cay. I work directly in the COVID-19 unit with most of my patients positive. I started my job 3 days before the pandemic hit so if I get sick I get unpaid leave and I’ve been considering going to work anyway because I just can’t do that again.

I know my situation isn’t that bad and I am grateful that I have a job right now but any help to buy more scrubs, scrub caps, or other kinds of ppe would be so appreciated. Venmo @Caseydickson

Thank you to all the other hero’s who didn’t respond!

Thank you for continuing to put yourself in harms way to keep our community running!

Beginners Guide To Smoking CBG

0

CBD (cannabidiol) isn’t the only non-intoxicating cannabinoid on the block anymore. Over the last few years, hemp producers have been hard at work producing strains that are high in CBG (cannabigerol) instead while still staying low in THC.

As one of the biggest states in hemp production at the time of our nation’s founding, North Carolina has a long history of using and enjoying hemp to the absolute fullest. People all over Charlotte are embracing this latest development in our great state’s hemp story, so it’s time to learn all about the benefits of this cannabinoid and find out which CBG products are worth your money.

What is CBG?

CBG is short for cannabigerol, one of the eight main cannabinoids found in cannabis. There are dozens of different cannabinoids, but most of them are analogues (copies) of these main eight:

  • THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)
  • CBD (cannabidiol)
  • CBG (cannabigerol
  • CBC (cannabichromene)
  • CBN (cannabinol)
  • THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin)
  • THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid)
  • CBDA (cannabidiolic acid)

All these cannabinoids and their analogues stem from a single cannabis constituent: cannabigerolic acid, the precursor to CBG. Just as humans have stem cells, cannabis has a “stem cell cannabinoid,” and scientists are very curious about the role CBG will play in the future of cannabis research.

How is CBG different than CBD?

CBG and CBD flower have more similarities than differences. Both cannabinoids are, for instance, non-psychoactive, and they both appear to have potent antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties.

There are a few unique attributes of CBG, however, that have drawn significant attention in recent years. This cannabinoid appears to be antibacterial, for instance, which means it might be useful in treating infectious disease.

CBG also appears to have profound digestive benefits, which might make it a useful treatment for Crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Most intriguingly, however, CBG also appears to treat cancer where even CBD might not.

What kinds of CBG products are there?

Right now, you might not find as much variety among CBG products as you find with CBD. The CBG industry just hasn’t been around long enough to diversify, but at the same time, a few reputable CBD manufacturers are starting to expand into other cannabinoids. Here’s a brief list of the different kinds of CBG products that are currently available for sale in all 50 states:

CBG pre-rolls

CBG pre-rolls offer a nutty terpene profile and help you focus. These convenient CBG products fit in your pocket or wait in your medicine cabinet for when you need them. No grinding, no mess—simply light up your CBG pre-roll and enjoy!

CBG flower

Before it can be rolled into pre-rolls, CBG flower exists in its original, bud form. While you need to do your own grinding when you choose loose CBG flower, this product type might be preferable when you’re at home and have space to stretch out.

CBG vape

Some companies offer CBG vape cartridges in addition to the usual CBD. Vape cartridges can be just as convenient as pre-rolls, and as long as the ingredients going into your cartridge are safe, you have nothing to fear from vaping.

CBG tinctures

Tinctures are one of the most popular CBD product categories, and some brands are starting to expand into CBG tinctures as well. Hemp products you take orally, however, have decreased bioavailability.

CBG topicals

Just like CBD, CBG might be useful when applied topically. In particular, CBG topicals could be useful for wound healing, but it would be necessary to make a product formulation that won’t do more harm than good.

What are the benefits of CBG?

Let’s cover some of the most impressive benefits of CBG:

Antibacterial

Animal studies have shown CBG to be just as effective as mainline antibacterial treatments. This cannabinoid may even be effective in fighting MRSA, a common bacterial infection in hospital environments.

Digestive

CBG appears to help with digestion by reducing inflammation in the digestive tract. This helps your gut’s natural mucosal defense barrier support healthy, natural digestion.

Anti-cancer

Cannabigerol has been investigated as a treatment for colorectal, stomach, and other gastrointestinal cancers. This cannabinoid may even be useful for breast cancer, and it appears that CBG mainly fights cancer by reducing tumor size.

How does CBG make you feel?

CBG feels almost the same as CBD when you smoke or vape it. While CBD-rich cannabis can hurt your throat slightly on the way down, however, CBG usually hits smoother, making it more like THC in that way (and that way alone).

Like CBD, cannabigerol doesn’t make you high, and in terms of perceived effects, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to distinguish between these two non-intoxicating cannabinoids. Under the surface, however, CBG operates very differently within your body.

While CBD mainly operates at the 5-HT1A and TRPV1 receptors, CBG affects other bodily systems. It’s possible that using these cannabinoids together might provide enhanced effects, and there’s evidence that adding CBC, CBN, and the other non-intoxicating cannabinoids into the mix may provide even further benefits.

How do you find the best CBG products?

You’re ready to be the first person to bring CBG to your Charlotte neighborhood. How do you tell the good CBG products from the bad, however?

Potency

A few years ago, it was only possible to get CBG from CBD-rich hemp in concentrations under 1% per dry weight. As a result, most CBG products were extremely low-quality and filled with processing toxins.

If you find a CBG flower product with more than 10-15% CBG, it was bred to be high in this cannabinoid, which proves that your flower is just as high-quality as hemp with any other dominant cannabinoid. As the CBG industry continues to evolve, even higher CBG concentrations will be available in hemp flower products.

Lab testing

Independent lab testing is just as essential in the CBG industry as it is for CBD products. Hemp tends to accumulate toxins as it grows, which makes it necessary to follow strict safety protocols.

If a company doesn’t take the time to grow good hemp and extract CBG from it properly, this lack of rigor will be obvious. Either the hemp company won’t provide lab reports at all or the reports provided will be from the company’s own lab.

Customer reviews

Good products speak for themselves, and they end up spreading by word of mouth. The modern equivalent of word of mouth, customer reviews speak volumes regarding the popularity of a hemp company and the quality of its products. As they say—you can fool some people sometimes, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.

Is CBG safe?

Like CBD, cannabigerol does not appear to have any serious side effects. This cannabinoid is also non-intoxicating, and it does not have any addictive properties. It’s possible that, like CBD, CBG may interact with certain prescription drugs, but other than that, this antibacterial, anticancer, pro-digestion plant substance appears to be entirely safe for you to use.

Once you’ve tried CBG, make sure to share with your friends and loved ones. Grab a CBG pre-roll, head out, and enjoy everything that Charlotte has to offer with your new favorite non-intoxicating cannabinoid.

How To Include CBD In Your Health Regimen

0

If you’ve noticed any of the hype around CBD lately, you’re probably curious about what it can do for you. The good news is that CBD offers incredible benefits for people of all ages, even children.

CBD is a versatile natural compound that’s extracted from industrial hemp (a strain of the Cannabis plant). CBD is one of hundreds of cannabinoids found in the plant and interacts with specific receptors in our nervous system.

CBD is used for everything from pain management to inflammation control and even anxiety relief. Interested in including CBD in your daily health regimen? You’ve come to the right place. Here are some of the best ways to introduce CBD into your life.

CBD Before Bed

If you have trouble sleeping, CBD oil might be able to help. Oils from companies like Penguin CBD (https://penguincbd.com/products/cbd-oil) can help you fall asleep faster and experience higher-quality sleep by calming the mind, relieving pain and inflammation, and bringing about a sense of relaxation.

A large percentage of Americans suffer from low-quality sleep or don’t get enough sleep, and we always seem to be looking for ways to improve our sleep. Mattresses, new pillows, pre-sleep routines, these are all fine, but including CBD in your pre-sleep routine might be just the thing to drastically improve your sleep.

You can either take CBD oil or a capsule before bed or chew a gummy. CBD gummies are tasty and nostalgic (who didn’t love gummy bears as a kid?) and come in many flavor varieties. Or, if you have localized pain, you can use a topical application on your target areas for focused relaxation.

There are even cbd melatonin gummies, so you can really get a good night’s sleep.

CBD For Stress and Anxiety

For those who suffer from an anxiety disorder or just lead stressful lives, the need to de-stress and regain control of your mind can be a daily occurrence. CBD has been found to help ease the symptoms of certain anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder and even depression. This is promising news, as anxiety disorders affect a large percentage of the US and global populations. Anxiety disorders cause the brain to react to external stimuli and certain emotions in a negative way, and can even cloud the brain and make the victim feel isolated, unloved, and out of control.

CBD is a naturally-occurring compound with few to no side-effects. The side-effects we’ve seen so far include minor things like diarrhea, fatigue, and dry mouth (these are only a few, but the rest are just as mild).

CBD has even been used to help treat the symptoms of addiction, aiding in the recovery of addicts and helping to reduce the anxiety and stress that comes with not having their substance of choice.

As A Post-Workout Supplement

CBD is actually great for a post-workout since it has anti-inflammatory and pain management properties. When you work out, you’re actually creating micro-tears in your muscle fibers, which are then repaired after you’re done.

This is why an intense workout leaves you feeling sore for days afterward; your body is actually trying to heal the damage you’ve caused to the muscles.

CBD can help reduce the inflammation caused by that healing process, and therefore, help alleviate the soreness that accompanies it. Mind you, that doesn’t mean you should skip your cool down or stretch after a good workout, but you can include CBD in your post-workout meal or protein shake.

Many athletes trust CBD oils and supplements for their post-workout, and you’re not limited to oils. You can apply lotions to your muscle groups, eat a gummy, or even take a capsule for extended-release.

In Your Morning Smoothie

Do you have trouble getting past the morning brain fog? Some of us simply don’t wake up quite as alert and ready to go as others, and we need a little something extra to start the day right. If you’re like many people, breakfast consists of a quick smoothie before you’re out the door and off to work.

Luckily, CBD oil is versatile enough to work in your favorite smoothie! Simply pour your favorite CBD oil in your smoothie and mix. Or, you can take a capsule and wash it down with your smoothie if you like. CBD capsules are usually flavorless, and you can find many different oil flavor varieties to match your smoothie ingredients.

When you start your day with CBD, you’re giving your mind an extra boost first thing in the morning. You’ll feel more at ease throughout the day, and more able to tackle stress and anxiety that may accompany your workday.

You can take a second dose of your CBD halfway through the day if you feel the effects are wearing off; simply take a pre-made smoothie with you and stick it in the fridge!

Put It In Your Coffee

If you’re anything like millions of other Americans, coffee is something of a staple in your diet. The coffee industry is a billion-dollar industry, so it’s no surprise that CBD companies have caught on and brought about their own version of coffee.

Sure, you can put CBD oil directly in your coffee, but what if it was already included in your coffee grounds? Several companies have created “CBD coffee”, which combines the energy-giving properties of coffee with the calming/concentration effects of CBD.

Keep Your Skin Healthy

CBD topicals are one of the most popular ways to get a dose of CBD. You can rub topicals directly onto pain-afflicted areas of the body, or all over your skin for a complete feeling of relaxation. CBD is said to make the skin feel softer, more supple, and even help with certain skin conditions such as acne.

Using CBD on the skin is effective at soothing aching joints, as well. The best CBD oil is absorbed directly into the skin and muscle groups beneath, providing fast-acting relief to localized areas. Try CBD topicals in your own health regimen, and you’ll notice a difference!

Should I go to university? The pros and cons

0

If you are leaving school and considering going to university, it’s wise to weigh up the pros and cons first. Whilst there are many reasons that university might be the best option for you, there are other factors that might sway you in a different direction. To make your decision a bit easier, we’ve compiled just some of the pros and cons of going to university.

THE PROS

Career – Depending on your chosen subject, going to university may be the only way to pursue the career you want. Many professions such as a doctor or a lawyer, for example, require a degree so, if you are looking to pursue a career in a similar area, attending university is a step in the right direction. If you are unsure which university might suit, the QS world university rankings are a good source of information and might help to narrow your options.

Independence – Whilst it can be a bit daunting, moving away from home can be a very exciting time. Going to university allows you to meet new people and teaches you to become more independent. You will also learn some important life skills such as budgeting, paying bills, and, depending on your financial situation, holding down a part-time job whilst studying.

Earning potential – Whilst it’s not always the case, graduates are likely to earn more than those who are employed straight out of school. It does, of course, depend on the degree you choose, but it’s highly likely that your earning potential will increase due to attending university.

THE CONS

Leaving home – For some, the idea of leaving the safety net of their family home can be daunting. All of a sudden, you are faced with the reality of the real world without your parents to fall back on. If you are torn between the two, you can, of course, find a university closer to home which will allow you to study without relocating.

Debt – Going to university is expensive. Tuition fees, student loans, and living expenses can mount. This could result in you spending the first 5 to 10 years of your career paying back the debt you have accrued. For this reason, going to university isn’t a decision that should be taken lightly. Establish how much it’s going to cost and whether it’s going to be a viable choice. If you have parents that can help then it will make your decision far easier, but not everyone has that luxury.

Securing a job – Don’t be fooled into thinking that a degree will guarantee you a job. That, sadly, isn’t the case at all. If you want to be a lawyer, accountant, or doctor, you are more likely to find a job. If, however, your chosen subjects are less specific, it’s a good idea to research the percentage of graduates who do secure the jobs they want at the end of their studies. You may find that an apprenticeship or on the job training can lead to even better career prospects.

Charlotte Hornets and Other Groups Commit $250,000 to COVID-19 Response Fund

0

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation has donated $100,000 to the COVID-19 Response Fund, a community-wide effort to assist Mecklenburg County residents affected by the coronavirus pandemic that has already raised more than $15 million. The gift is part of a larger $250,000 commitment by the Charlotte Hornets Foundation to COVID-19 relief efforts.

In addition to the $100,000 to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg COVID-19 Response Fund, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation donated $25,000 each to three nonprofit organizations addressing immediate needs related to the pandemic – Carolina Farm Trust and Crisis Assistance Ministry in Charlotte and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. Greensboro is the home market of the Hornets’ NBA G League affiliate. Additionally, the Hornets pledged another $75,000 to to-be-determined future needs resulting from COVID-19, which will be granted prior to the end of 2020.

“Although we may not be currently playing games or hosting events, Hornets Sports & Entertainment prides itself on being an active, engaged and compassionate member of this community,” said Hornets President & Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield. “Through our Charlotte Hornets Foundation, we are proud to implement this three-pronged approach to assist with coronavirus relief efforts both immediately and in the future.”

Foundation For The Carolinas and United Way of Central Carolinas launched the fund on March 16 to support a range of nonprofit organizations that are meeting the basic needs of those affected by the crisis – such as food, shelter, housing and emergency financial assistance. Individuals are urged to donate at HelpCharMeck.org.

“The generosity of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation is greatly appreciated in this time of crisis and need,” said Foundation For The Carolinas President and CEO Michael Marsicano. “Through this fund, we’ve already donated nearly $3 million to 14 local nonprofit organizations who are struggling to meet increasing demands from people who need help. More gifts will be needed, but with generous partners such as the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, we will get through this pandemic together.”

Donations have ranged from a two-dollar commitment from an anonymous online donor to $1.3 million from Mecklenburg County. Other gifts include $250,000 gifts from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, the Weisiger Fleming Family Fund and EY; $500,000 each from Ally Financial, the Duke Energy Foundation and the Knight Foundation; and $1 million gifts from LendingTree, the City of Charlotte, the Howard R. Levine Foundation, Truist Financial Corporation, Bank of America, the David A. Tepper Charitable Foundation, Lowe’s, the C.D. Spangler Foundation, Coca-Cola Consolidated and the John M. Belk Endowment.

“As the needs of our community quickly escalate, generous donors such as the Charlotte Hornets Foundation are appreciated now more than ever,” said United Way of Central Carolinas President and CEO Laura Yates Clark. “We already see the affect this crisis is having on local nonprofits. With unemployment rising, social distancing continuing and parents struggling to provide for their families, many nonprofits are overwhelmed with requests for aid. This fund will help help provide these nonprofits the resources they need.”

The fund is administered through a partnership between Foundation For The Carolinas and United Way of Central Carolinas, in close coordination with the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

5 Investments That Can Boost the Value of your Home

0

Some of the best investments you can make involve your home, and by putting in a little bit of extra work, you can undoubtedly boost its value.

Small updates like brightening up your space with upgraded lighting can help the appeal and look of your home. But if you want to find out about the best significant changes to make today, keep reading.

1) Updated Air Conditioning

If your air conditioning unit is blowing hot air or stops and starts randomly, this could be wasting energy and adding money to your electric bill. That’s why you should always keep your unit up to date with reliable companies like Estes Services. It’s also important to regularly get your air conditioning checked out by professionals and a tune-up if necessary.

By having these routine tune-ups, changing your air filter all the time, and installing high-quality air products like dehumidifiers, you can get your home’s value to where it needs to be.

2) Adding Insulation to Your Attic

If the insulation in your attic is not functioning correctly, you are wasting energy. Up to 30 percent of the warmth from your furnace is going right out to the open. Adding insulation to your home is a relatively easy update, and the materials are pretty inexpensive as well. For this easy DIY project, you may have to sacrifice your weekend, but you’ll be adding tons of value to your home.

3) Updating Plumbing

When appraisers come and evaluate your home, your plumbing is mainly taken into consideration. Old and rusty pipes that have put questionable metal into your drinking water should be replaced. Nowadays, updating your plumbing is less invasive and can be completed more quickly. One of the scariest parts of being a homeowner is realizing you need to have a costly repair done on your home, but re-piping isn’t as big of a deal as it seems to be.

4) Remove any Paneling or Popcorn

Particular home looks aren’t ever going to be trendy again, like paneling and popcorn ceilings. Rip out your paneling and put up some drywall, and you’ll like your home a lot better that way. It is almost more important to get rid of your popcorn ceilings. This outdated design takes away from the modern look of your home, which in turn takes away value.

5) Don’t Forget About the Kitchen

One of the most appealing parts of a beautiful home is a big, newly renovated kitchen. That’s why if you’re looking to invest money in your home and your kitchen isn’t up to par, that’s where you should be investing. An essential part of a modern kitchen is a proper workspace and layout. Once you’ve worked out a design of your kitchen, it should be easy to buy updated appliances and plug them in.

So when evaluating your home, check the kitchen first. You can get a lot of your home’s value this way.

Start from the Inside Out

Believe it or not, a lot of your home’s value comes from the inside. Things like updated plumbing, good insulation, and a functioning air conditioning unit can boost the price you can sell it for. But if you’re looking to appeal to homebuyers, it’s essential to embrace a modern look in your house by removing outdated features of your home. Scraping off those popcorn ceilings is a must, but also remember to remove any wood paneling to keep up with the look. No matter what the state is of your home, you can always find small renovations to make to boost its value and quality.
