This holiday season, Sustain Charlotte and OrthoCarolina have partnered to give the gift of exploring Charlotte by walking with friends and family with #WALKCLT 2020. Now in its fifth year, this annual event goes digital and expands from a one-time evening event to a month-long campaign that encourages Charlotteans to explore new neighborhoods, public art, and pathways that can only be discovered on foot.

The campaign will launch on Giving Tuesday (December 1st), with a ‘Giving Back Tuesday’ release of the digital portal, loaded with the first two tours of a 5 tour collection. A new walking tour will be released each week and will include a detailed map along with curated content like Spotify playlists to make your walk more enjoyable. All content is free!

“Walking is one of the few activities we could enjoy outside of our homes this year,” says Sustain Charlotte’s Bike + Walk Program Coordinator Eric Zaverl. “That is why #WALKCLT couldn’t be more critical for an auto-centric city like Charlotte. Having a walkable community makes it possible for residents to thrive socially and economically while improving our overall health.”

WHEN: December 1 – 31.

HOW IT WORKS: Participants will visit https://www.sustaincharlotte.org/walkclt to grab a QR code that will allow them to access the maps and playlists via Linktree on their mobile device. Load it up and walk!

WALKS: The areas of Charlotte included #WALKCLT are: Wesley Heights, UpTown, NoDa, and the West End. There are also opportunities and tools to ‘create your own adventure’ and to incorporate earth-friendly undertakings like cleaning up your neighborhood while you walk.

USS Christmas will be airing a number of times on the Hallmark Channel now through the end of the year, with showtimes at 2 p.m. Dec. 1; 12 am Dec. 4; 8 pm Dec. 6; and 11 am Christmas Day.

Christmas Town USA Just Lit Up With Scaled Back Pandemic Restrictions

0

America’s #2 Best Christmas Light Display has just officially turned on.

For the first time in 65 years, however, Christmas Town USA has significantly scaled back their annual festivities and decorations.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the town of McAdenville announced massive changes for this year’s Christmas season, including cutting their tree lighting ceremony, the yule log parade, and making the Christmas Town 5K a virtual-only race.

They also noted they will have a revised lighting schedule and they will not be putting up any lights around Christmas Town lake.

Here is the official announcement from the town:

This year’s official changes include:

• Revised dates with lights turning on December 1st-26th

• Revised lighting schedule with lights only turning on 5:30-10 p.m. nightly

• No lights at Christmas Town Lake

• Christmas Town 5K as a virtual race

• No Tree Lighting Ceremony

• No Yule Log Parade

In spite of the town’s public reductions, private homes around McAdenville still have some of the most impressive Christmas light displays in the entire Charlotte region:

What do you think about their changes?

North Carolina’s Old Dominion Ranked as the #1 Carrier in America

0

For an unprecedented 11th consecutive year, Old Dominion Freight Line (OD) has earned the Mastio Quality Award for national less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers. The industry’s most comprehensive study ranked OD as the top carrier according to logistics professionals assessing carrier performance across 35 key attributes. OD is based in Thomasville, N.C.

Old Dominion’s premium service stood out from other national carriers in a quantitative ranking of attributes such as “Carrier is trustworthy,” “Shipments delivered when promised,” and “Drivers are courteous and professional.” Mastio & Company’s annual survey collects LTL shippers’ responses and identifies the importance of performance factors upon carrier choice.

“In a year that brought many challenges to our industry, we are incredibly honored to be recognized by Mastio and Company for our premium service,” said Greg Gantt, President and CEO of Old Dominion Freight Line. “Our customers depend on OD to keep their promises, and we are thankful they have recognized the responsiveness, speediness, and customer focus we put into our services. This recognition is for the more than 19,000 dedicated OD team members who go above and beyond every day.”

“Carrier performance indicators are analyzed based on discussions with LTL industry customers in the annual MASTIO survey,” said Kevin Huntsman, senior vice president of Mastio & Company. “We then use all of the ‘non-cost/performance’ attributes to name the recipient of the Mastio Quality Award. For the eleventh consecutive year, we are pleased to announce Old Dominion was ranked No. 1 among national LTL carriers. They earned this distinction for being consistently rated as a top LTL carrier, preferred by their customers for any shipping needs.”

The 16th annual MASTIO study interviewed 1,576 shippers providing approximately 5,000 total observations between July and November 2020. The 2020 survey includes more than 7,800 qualitative responses and ten open-ended questions via telephone interviews with key freight decision-makers.

How to Start Taking CBD Oil

0

Every day someone is trying CBD for the first time. This new user is excited to begin benefiting from the medicinal properties of cannabis without the high.

Starting a CBD regiment can be intimidating. There are a lot of phrases that are foreign to those outside the cannabis community. Plus, most new CBD oil users don’t have experience with sublingual administration. Most people don’t! In this guide, we will go over how to use CBD for the first time.

What is CBD?

Before going over the best way to take CBD, you must understand exactly what CBD is. Cannabis consists of over 100 known chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. Both THC and CBD are cannabinoids.

CBD is non-intoxicating, unlike THC, which is infamous for the ‘high’ users feel after consuming. CBD became federally legal in the United States in 2018. The US government decided to separate THC and other cannabinoids from the cannabis plant. Hemp is now classified as cannabis containing 0.3% THC or less. Marijuana is classified as cannabis, with over 0.3% THC.

During the hemp extraction process, companies choose from 3 types of CBD oil.

  • Full Spectrum CBD – Extract with all cannabinoids and terpenes (the beneficial chemical compound in plants) from the original hemp plant. Full spectrum contains THC
  • Broad Spectrum CBD – All the cannabinoids and terpenes excluding THC
  • Isolate CBD – Pure CBD. No other cannabinoids or terpenes

There are also different ways to administer CBD.

Each administration method is processed by the body differently. Sending CBD through the digestive tract takes much longer to feel the effects than smoking or vaping CBD. Topical CBD can be applied directly to sore joints or muscles, but because our skin is not permeable, the CBD isn’t absorbed very efficiently.

Understanding the different types of CBD oil and administration methods is essential. Each new user needs to consider the pros and cons for each one and choose the right way to take CBD for themselves.

Best Way to Consume CBD

In my opinion, taking CBD oil is the best way to take CBD. When done correctly, CBD oil drops are efficient, fast acting, and not much is wasted in the absorption process. Edibles and CBD tablets may be easier to take and more familiar, but CBD is too expensive to waste. While smoking and vaping are extremely efficient, I’m not interested in putting hot smoke in my lungs. CBD oil is the best method, but it must be done correctly.

How to Use CBD Drops

CBD oil is meant to be taken sublingually. It means that the oil is absorbed through mucosal glands in the mouth. When taking CBD oil drops, the user wants to let the oil absorb under their tongue. This allows the CBD to go directly into the bloodstream. Hold the CBD under your tongue as long as possible. When users ingest CBD oil, they send it to the stomach. They will have to wait longer to feel the effects, and a good percentage of their CBD will be wasted.

Taking CBD for the firsts time can be an intimidating experience. New users must understand the different types of CBD oil, the different administration methods, and how to take CBD oil correctly. Using this guide, any first-time user will have the confidence of a seasoned cannabis enthusiast.

All newbie CBD users should start with a small dose. Take 10-15 mg your first few times and see how your body reacts. Work your way up to larger doses.

When taking CBD for the first time, remember to consult your personal physician if you have any concerns. CBD is well tolerated in humans, even in high doses, but it’s always better to be on the safe side.  If you are interested in cbd products, you can check this website – saltleafhemp.com.

Chick-Fil-A To Build Massive $52 Million Distribution Center in NC With Average Salary of $62k

0

One of America’s favorite fast-food chains has just announced plans to build a massive new $52 million distribution center in Mebane, NC (about an hour and a half NorthEast of Charlotte).

The new project will be primarily geared toward supplying chicken, fries, and other products to several hundred of its locations around the Carolinas. The new facility is expected to create at least 160 jobs with a minimum average salary of $62,429.

According to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the new Chick-fil-A project will be facilitated by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) over the course of the 12-year term, with a reimbursement to the company of up to $1,562,400, spread over 12 years.

“North Carolina attracts the nation’s most well-known brands because of our strong workforce and steady leadership, even in a crisis,” said Governor Cooper. “Alamance County is the right location with the right infrastructure to make Chick-Fil-A’s new approach to the restaurant’s supply chain a success.”

The new facility is now scheduled to open in early 2022.

Charlotte’s Second Cocktail Ice Company Opens in South End

0

Over the weekend, Charlotte’s second cocktail ice company officially launched (Charlotte’s first being Artisan Ice Sculptures which launched about 10 years ago).

The Ice Trade is setting out to make crystal clear ice readily available for homes and cocktail bars around Charlotte. The idea for The Ice Trade has been years in the making, but it took one of humanity’s most challenging times for The Ice Trade to officially be born.

Founders, Larry Suggs and Scott Gadd, have over a decade of bar experience and are putting that knowledge into their newest venture after spending months researching and refining their processes before debuting this new concept to the public. All along with the goal of providing the purest ice possible for enjoying fine spirits and craft cocktails at home or at a local bar.

The water used in the production of their ice goes through a multi-stage filtration process before being slowly frozen over the course of three days using specialized freezers.  Their team then cuts each piece of crystal clear ice by hand using a combination of saws designed for ice cutting.

The Ice Trade proudly offers three core products. Their Queen Cube is 2”x2”x2” and is the standard large ice cube enjoyed by whiskey lovers worldwide. Their King Cube is 2”x2”x3” and is the bigger brother to the Queen Cube, perfect for a double pour or any cocktail. Their Column Cube is 1.25”x1.25”x4.5” and is truly a beauty. This unique cube is tall and slender, perfect for drinks served in a Collins glass, like the classic Tom Collins, Mojito, or other cocktails. Each package comes with 9 to 12 pieces of crystal clear ice and is $13.50 plus tax.

Ice can be purchased 24/7 at www.theicetrade.com and picked up each Friday at their facility located in South End at 3133 May St. All ice is cut-to-order and limited quantities are available each week, so it’s recommended to order as early as possible. With current store hours on Friday from 2pm-7pm, it’s the perfect time for Charlotte residents to pick up ice to elevate their weekend home bar experience. For cocktail bars, The Ice Trade offers delivery and additional pickup hours.

Holiday Promotion: The Ice Trade will be offering limited runs of custom-sized ice throughout the seasons. Kicking it off with an “Ice Punch Bowl” for the upcoming Holiday season. This bowl is hand-carved from over 35 pounds of ice and is the perfect centerpiece for your small holiday gatherings. Included with your purchase will be three punch recipes featuring local spirits to ensure you are able to put your “Ice Punch Bowl” to perfect use. -only 20 punch bowls are being produced for the 2020 Holiday season.

In celebration of their launch, The Ice Trade is offering promotional pricing through the end of 2020. When purchasing online, use promo-code LAUNCH15 to receive 15% off your first purchase (not including memberships).  Ice can be picked up each Friday at The Ice Trade facility.

Please visit their website at www.theicetrade.com for more information and follow them on Instagram @theicetrade to keep up as they pop up around town.

Charlotte Coming Together to Celebrate Seventh Annual #GivingTuesdayCLT

0

December 1st marks Charlotte’s seventh year celebrating the global generosity movement GivingTuesday locally with #GivingTuesdayCLT, powered by SHARE Charlotte.

Celebrated annually the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

#GivingTuesdayCLT encourages the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community to come together to support local nonprofits. Since 2014, #GivingTuesdayCLT has influenced over $28M in gifts to local nonprofits and inspired more than 25,000 new donors. In 2016, #GivingTuesdayCLT was named the largest GivingTuesday community celebration in the world.

“Regardless of your circumstances, 2020 has been a tough year for everyone and forced us all to pause,” said Kendall Alley, Region Bank president for Charlotte. “We are proud to continue our support for #GivingTuesdayCLT, which provides a great opportunity to come together to take action for our community. It is our honor to serve our customers, support our employees and help accelerate the critical work of nonprofit organizations. Generosity looks different for each of us this year, and #GivingTuesdayCLT is our call to action to be generous and to share because Charlotte needs us.”
