December 1st marks Charlotte’s seventh year celebrating the global generosity movement GivingTuesday locally with #GivingTuesdayCLT, powered by SHARE Charlotte.
Celebrated annually the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
#GivingTuesdayCLT encourages the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community to come together to support local nonprofits. Since 2014, #GivingTuesdayCLT has influenced over $28M in gifts to local nonprofits and inspired more than 25,000 new donors. In 2016, #GivingTuesdayCLT was named the largest GivingTuesday community celebration in the world.
“Regardless of your circumstances, 2020 has been a tough year for everyone and forced us all to pause,” said Kendall Alley, Region Bank president for Charlotte. “We are proud to continue our support for #GivingTuesdayCLT, which provides a great opportunity to come together to take action for our community. It is our honor to serve our customers, support our employees and help accelerate the critical work of nonprofit organizations. Generosity looks different for each of us this year, and #GivingTuesdayCLT is our call to action to be generous and to share because Charlotte needs us.”
SHARE Charlotte has sourced local nonprofits individual goals for this year’s #GivingTuesdayCLT (Tuesday, Dec 1) and the impact that reaching that goal will have on their organization.
