UNC Charlotte Climbs National Rankings as Enrollment and Research Surge

UNC Charlotte continues strengthening its national profile, earning another spot among America’s top public universities.

The university ranked No. 87 among public universities in U.S. News & World Report’s latest Best Colleges rankings.

That keeps Charlotte among the nation’s top 100 public universities for a fourth consecutive year.

UNC Charlotte also ranked No. 39 for Best Value Schools for in-state students. The category considers academics, tuition, financial aid and scholarships.

Several programs climbed as well.

Charlotte’s engineering program jumped 23 spots to No. 102 nationally. Computer science reached No. 103, while undergraduate business ranked No. 129.

The university’s nursing program came in at No. 75 nationally and No. 47 among public universities.

The rankings arrive as UNC Charlotte continues setting records for enrollment and research. More than 33,000 students are enrolled this fall.

Several other Charlotte-area schools also appeared prominently in the rankings:

  • UNC Charlotte — Top 100 U.S. public university
  • Appalachian State — No. 3 Regional University in the South
  • Winthrop University — No. 12 Regional University in the South
  • Queens University of Charlotte — No. 17 Regional University in the South
  • Wingate University — Ranked among National Universities
  • Gardner-Webb University — Ranked among National Universities

App State remained one of the Southeast’s strongest regional universities, while Queens again ranked highly among schools based in Charlotte.

U.S. News evaluates factors including graduation rates, academic resources, student outcomes and debt levels.
