Davidson Moving Forward On Major $3 Million Renovation of Exit 30

The major gateway into Davidson from i77 is now getting a major face-lift.

The new $3 million Exit 30 upgrade will add full-width pedestrian and bicycle lanes to the the entire length of the bridge, as well as new roundabouts at the northbound and southbound ramps.

Exit 30 renovationsThe new project will be tackled in 2 phases.

The first phase will widen the bridge for the six-foot-wide pedestrian and 12-foot-wide bicycle lanes on either side.

The second phase will add flashing pedestrian controlled beacons at the northbound interstate on-ramp to alert traffic of cyclists and pedestrians using the multi-use path, roundabouts on either side of the bridge, and mature trees and landscaping along the bridge.

Construction is now expected to begin in the coming months, and completed by the middle of 2018.

mccrory executive order moving state boundaryGovernor Pat McCrory has just signed Executive Order 118, which effectively redraws the boundary line between the state of North Carolina and South Carolina from Polk to Brunswick County.

finalized the boundary line between North and South Carolina Friday by signing Executive Order 118 after more than two decades of each state seeking clarification.

“This Executive Order is a culmination of more than 20 years of work from leaders in North and South Carolina, I am proud of our efforts to settle this issue and our strong partnership with Governor Nikki Haley and our neighbors in South Carolina,” commented Governor McCrory in last night’s press release.

When the border was last marked, in 1772, they used rocks, cut marks in tree trunks, and fence posts, but obviously most of those landmarks are long gone.

Researchers combed through old records and century-old boundary surveys to determine where the true borders should now be, and in many places, it’s much different than where they currently are.

Work originally started to finalize the boundary between North and South Carolina in 1994, and in May 2013, the Joint North Carolina/South Carolina Boundary Commission completed its work to settle the boundary line. The new state border will officially go into effect on January 1, 2017.

Several property owners are about to find themselves living in a different state, paying different taxes, and submitting to different laws in less than a month.

Not Just Coffee is about to open their fourth location in the heart of Dilworth.

The local gourmet coffee shop, which many Charlotteans consider to be the best in the city, is joining up with Green Brothers Juice Co. and Yoga One to fill a new mill-inspired building currently under construction at 2230 Park Rd.:

It’s being constructed to look like an old historic mill, with handmade brick, wood-plank ceilings and massive windows and doors. DCG Construction is now expecting to have the exterior of the building completed this month, and retailers will start moving in early next year.

Police Asking For Public’s Help To Find Missing Lincolnton Teen

missing-lincolnton-teenThe Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office just sent out a missing person’s report, asking the public for help in finding a missing teenager.

According to the report, 15-year-old Madison Olivia Burnette was last seen on November 25.

Police noted that she left her home with two females in a black Honda.

Olivia is a white female with blond hair and hazel eyes. She’s 5’4″ tall and weighs about 100 lbs. She also has a distinct tattoo of an infinity symbol on her left forearm.

Governor McCory just took a trip to Trump Tower in NYC yesterday to meet with President Elect Trump. Most insiders are now saying the meeting was to determine which position within Trump’s campaign that McCrory might fill.

“Gov. McCrory and the President-elect had a chance to get to know each other pretty well on the campaign trail,” commented Trump’s spokesman Jason Miller in a press release.

mccorry executive orderMiller went on to talk about McCrory’s experience with education, job creation and energy modernization. As Governor, McCrory created the largest education budget in the state’s history and touted two notable bills he’d signed as governor: the Energy Modernization Act of 2014, which lifted a 2012 ban on fracking, as well as the Regulatory Reform Act of 2013 in regards to job creation and the .

“He’s seen as someone who’s been a reformer, someone who’s been a very solutions-oriented leader,” Miller noted.

He didn’t mention HB2, the i77 toll road project, or Duke Energy’s Coal Ash ponds – three issues that many people say cost McCrory this last gubernatorial election.

Governor McCrory officially conceded the governor’s race to Roy Cooper this past Monday after weeks of fraud speculation and recounts.

The Town of Davidson Is About To Give Away $10,000 To A Lucky Local Business

The Town of Davidson is about to give away $10,000 to a local business in order to increase local investments.

The ‘Davidson Main Street Business Grant‘ was initially started 2 years ago in an attempt to spur on local marketing, and it certainly did the trick. Kindred Restaurant was the first recipient of the grant, receiving a total of $10,000 from the town back in 2015.

The restaurant has now been featured in publications across America as being one of the best restaurants in the south.

This year’s grant program includes the following terms:town of davidson

  • ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

Grant money shall be available to designated retail businesses in Davidson’s local historic district defined in the Town of Davidson’s planning ordinance as retail: Uses in which the principal use of purpose is the sale of goods, products, merchandise, or services directly to the consumer.

  • ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES
  • Funds may be used to support the rehabilitation of properties or for new construction.
  • Funds must be used for exterior or interior improvements that are permanent. For example, funds may be used for windows, floors, etc. but not used for tables and chairs.
  • Projects must spur private investment.
  • Projects must provide direct benefit to small business retention, expansion or recruitment.
  • Projects must retain or create jobs in association with small business.
  • GRANT AMOUNTS

The Davidson Main Street Business Grant is a reimbursable, matching grant program.  The Town of Davidson is authorized to award grants totaling no more than a maximum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to each eligible business.  The minimum grant that may be requested is one thousand dollars ($1,000). Private funds must be committed to match the amount of any grant from the Davidson Main Street Solutions Grant on a basis of a minimum of two dollars for every one dollar provided from the Town of Davidson.

The grant match may constitute a combination of any of the following public or private funding which may include:

  • Cash, and/or
  • Local community grant, and/or
  • Investments, and/or
  • The donation of property (an appraisal completed by a licensed appraiser must be submitted to document value)

Charlotte Christian School Just Launched A Massive $8 Million Expansion

ccs-exterior-rendering-a-768x432One of Charlotte’s top private schools, Charlotte Christian, just broke ground on their new $8 million Center for Worship and Performing Arts. The new building will be home to the Alkire Auditorium, the school’s first auditorium which will seat more than 500 people for chapels, full-scale theatrical productions, and school assemblies.

Some of the expansion’s biggest donors were on hand at last week’s ground breaking, including; Rick and Linda Hendrick, David Bellamy of LS3P, and Will Caulder of Rodgers Construction.

ccs-auditorium-rendering-1024x747The Center for Worship and Performing Arts will be a two-story 21,000 square foot facility built immediately behind the Hendrick Center for Arts and Science. In addition to the 520 seat auditorium for chapels, theater productions and school assemblies, the state-of-the-art facility will also include a black box theater for smaller productions, a scene shop for set construction, dressing rooms, and a window-line gallery for visual arts displays.

Construction on the new building will begin in December of this year with completion scheduled for the fall of 2017. The building project is part of the school’s 2020 Vision Strategic Plan and is being made possible by the generous gifts of friends and families of the school.

“We are extremely thankful for this great addition to our campus and for God’s provision through the Hendrick family and our friends and families who have generously donated to this campaign,” shared Head of School Barry Giller. “Our students are excited about having a state-of-the-art facility to host our chapels, concerts, plays and musicals. I am grateful to the leadership of the board of trustees in remaining committed to the school’s master campus plan and in particular the vision for this facility.”

Just minutes from the Panther’s Stadium, tucked in a parking lot on South College is a small food truck that packs a punch. Rico’s Acai pronounced “ah-sah-ee” serves Acai bowls all day every day in the queen city!

Acai is a super fruit mostly native to Brazil and Trinidad, grows like a slender palm tree, and tastes like a dark berry that collided with chocolate.

Proven to contain over 10 times more antioxidant’s than red grapes, the trendy new super food is also low in sugar.

Rico’s Acai has two locations now; one off of South College which is the food truck spot and the other at 7th Street Public Market.

My personal favorite has been the Rainbow Bowl – it’s turned into a constant craving!

The Rainbow Bowl has Granola, Banana, Blueberries, Pineapple, Strawberries and Raspberries all on top of the Acai base. Skip out on the burger and try an Acai bowl for lunch. You can even add Nutella and coconut to make it seem as if you had a legit dessert at the same time. The small is quite filling while the large is perfect for sharing.

Cooler temp’s right around the corner will definitely not deter me from swiping my debit card for a bowl that my body gives a high five.

Governor Pat McCrory Officially Concedes The Election To Roy Cooper (Video)

After several weeks of recounts and voter fraud accusations, the McCrory campaign has just conceded the 2016 NC Governor’s Election to attorney general Roy Cooper.

In a video uploaded to Twitter and Youtube, the current governor states, “despite continued questions that should be answered regarding the voting process, I personally believe that the majority of our citizens have spoken, and we now should everything we can to support the 75th governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper.”

According to the most recent NC Governor election results, Roy Cooper received 2,309,190 votes (49.02%), Pat McCrory received 2,298,927 votes (48.80%), and Lon Cecil received 102,986 votes (2.19%). In Mecklenburg county, the results were 297,129 for Cooper (63.27%), 160,501 for McCrory (34.18%), and 11,975 for Cecil (2.55%).

Roy Cooper, a Democrat, will now control the top position in our state, while Republicans will maintain super majorities in both NC legislative chambers.

McCrory is the only North Carolina governor to lose their first re-election bid. He lost much of his support after signing and continuing to support, the i77 toll road contract and HB2.

Concord and Kannapolis Spending $44 Million to Build 3 New City Buildings

concord-building-new-city-hallThe local governments of Concord and Kannapolis are giving themselves a $44 million face lift, showing incredible optimism in a steadily growing economy.

The city of Concord is building their new City Hall, spending about $16 million, while Kannapolis is constructing a new municipal building and police station for a total of $28 million.

The new 75,000 square foot Concord city hall building is currently being constructed at the corner of Cabarrus Avenue and Market Street. The facility will consolidate most of Concord’s administrative services, most of which currently function out of three Downtown buildings.

Municipal-Center-police-station-kannapolisThe current Concord municipal building at 26 Union Street has been in use since 1986 and the structure dates to 1950. City departments are also in the 1957 City Hall at 66 Union Street (now known as City Hall Annex) and the 1974 former police headquarters at 30 Market Street.

Kannapolis City Council will soon break ground on a new 100,000 square foot municipal center and police headquarters (pictured right). The building will be located at 401 Laureate Way on approximately 6.6 acres of land donated by North Carolina Research Campus founder David H. Murdock. The site faces the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory Building on the N.C. Research Campus. A number of administrative departments will be consolidated under one roof. The Police Department will occupy about 40% of the facility.
