A South Carolina Army Sergeant is now becoming an internet sensation after his hunger got the best of him this past week.
Early Thursday morning US Army Sergeant Alex Bowen couldn’t fall asleep and wanted some food, so he went over to his local Waffle House in West Columbia to grab a late night snack. When he walked in, he noticed the only employees working that night were passed out on the counter;
With no other alternatives other than going home hungry or rudely waking up the staffers, he decided that his best cource of action would be to walk behind the counter and start making his own food;
His amateur-cooked Waffle House meal consisted of fried bacon and steak with a side of pickles on bread;
His post from this past Thursday morning has now been shared over 2,700 times on Facebook alone;
When someone on Facebook asked him how drunk he was;
He said he was drunk enough to put on an apron and make it happen;
The Waffle House in West Columbia refused to comment on the incident.

This year’s Supermoon (now being called the ‘Cold Moon’) will rise in Charlotte at exactly 5:39pm on Sunday night (12/3), and set on Monday Morning at 8:05am (12/4), according to timeanddate.com.
The somewhat rare phenomena of a Supermoon occurs when a full moon is at perigee or its closest approach to Earth during its orbit. This weekend’s rare ‘Cold Moon’ perigee will climax on Monday, December 4, at 3:43am, when the moon will be exactly 222,137 miles away from the earth.
This weekend, the moon won’t actually change in size, but it will be significantly closer to the earth than usual. Sunday night’s supermoon will appear about 14% bigger and about 30% brighter than the average full moon.
The weather forecast for Sunday night is showing clear skies, so it should be the perfect night in Charlotte for some epic photos.

Business Insider just released a new study which names Charlotte as the top city in America where “millennials are flocking to in droves”.
The study compared data from several different sources, including personal-finance company SmartAsset, real-estate-analytics firm RCLCO, and mortgage-software company Ellie Mae. They concluded that Charlotte is now the top city, followed closely by Seattle, WA, and Oakland, CA.
The report notes, “The millennial population of Charlotte, the biggest city in North Carolina, grew by nearly 11,000 in 2015, the latest year for which there is data.” Seattle attracted 10,000 and Oakland attracted 7,500 that same year.
A few months ago Niche.com also ranked the Queen City as a top destination for Millennials, citing our growing number of breweries, coffee shops, restaurants, and high-paying jobs.

As a fan of weather and a former resident of NJ this time of year it’s always nice to hope for a white Xmas. I know historically speaking there is a VERY LOW probably for this occurrence in Charlotte and better in NJ where if I recall we had 2 of 10 in past decade.
Having said that the weather pattern is the best I have seen in years for the possibility of snow leading up to the holidays even in the South East!

In a few weeks, Dilworth’s Covenant Presbyterian Church will be hosting a one-of-a-kind basketball camp for both boys and girls.
Charlotte Magazine recently named Yes I Can Basketball to their prestigious 2017 “Best Of The Best” award for their impressive year-round youth basketball programs.
For the past six years, they’ve hosted their popular Christmas Holiday basketball camp in Dilworth on the campus of Covenant Presbyterian Church located at 1000 East Morehead Street. This year’s camp will be held Tuesday – Friday December 26th – 29th.
The four day camp offers two convenient sessions. The 9am – Noon morning session is for boys only ages 6-9 while the 1pm – 4pm afternoon session is for boys and girls ages 9-12.
Directed by former college basketball head coach Dan McGovern, Yes I Can Basketball has been serving the youth of Charlotte since 1997. Their camps have earned the reputation of being popular: and for good reason! They are jam-packed with serious teaching for the player who is hungry to improve and get better, but they’re also chalked full of fun and competitive games.
The Yes I Can Basketball staff members are carefully hand selected.

A well-known eye doctor in Charlotte has just surrendered his medical license after multiple sexual harassment lawsuits.
Dr. Jonathan Christenbury is facing at least 3 separate lawsuits, represented by attorney Meg Maloney.
Maloney told NBC Charlotte that “the doctor would intentionally hire young, beautiful women,” and engage in “unwanted physical contact…too racy for TV.”
The lawsuits were filed earlier this year and include allegations stretching back to 2015.
In addition to the recent lawsuits, Dr. Christenbury was issued an official disciplinary action from the NC Medical Board in 2012 after he was found guilty of having “a personal relationship with a patient of his practice. The patient received medical treatment performed by a PA.” He was fined $3,000 and conditions were placed on his license for the offense.
Due to the resignation of his medical license, his hearing with the NC medical board, scheduled for mid-December, has been canceled, but the civil lawsuits against him will continue moving forward.

The Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership just launched an online campaign to attract young “millennial” talent into what officials are now calling “Charlotte’s Backyard NC.”
“The development of this campaign was something that we became convinced that we needed in order to position our community in a way that would strategically connect millennial talent to the manufacturing careers in our community,” noted Kristin Reese, Executive Director of CCEDP. “Charlotte is projected to have the highest rate of millennial growth in the nation, and so by leveraging and strategically marketing our close proximity to that growing city, we feel it will help to fuel Cleveland County’s talent pipeline.”
Cleveland County is more affordable, has the “relaxed vibe” of a smaller community, and is now home to over 170 manufacturing companies, says Reese. Since 2008, 75 companies have moved to the county or expanded their local facilities. That represents 4,000 new jobs and $6 billion in investment.

The 13th annual Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game is set for a primetime kickoff and will be nationally televised at 7:45 (on ESPN) or 8 p.m. (on ABC). Two days ago, an Amber Alert was issued in North Carolina for an abducted 3-year-old girl, and now the FBI has stepped in to heighten the alert, saying that “every second counts”.
Mariah Kay Woods first went missing since Sunday night after her mother put her to bed. She lives with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend at 2405 Dawson Cabin Rd., Jacksonville NC.
Mariah is about 2 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 30 pounds, and has brown hair, and blue eyes.
Yesterday, the FBI released new photos of what they say could be Mariah with an unknown woman, taken by a Walmart surveillance camera in Morehead City around 9:30 a.m. Monday;

Authorities are now trying to determine who the woman in the picture is, and if the child is in fact, Mariah. In yesterday’s press release, the FBI stressed the fact that “No information is too small or insignificant when looking for a missing child.”

Yesterday afternoon, the Charlotte region’s newest and biggest YMCA facility unveiled its new name in preparation of next month’s grand opening. The massive 60,030 sq ft, 115 acres complex, set on the banks of a 34 acres lake will now be called the ‘Warlick Family YMCA’ in honor of the facility’s lead donor family.
Parkdale Mill’s CEO Andy Warlick helped to spearhead the new YMCA and its fundraising campaign. His family’s roots run deep in Gaston County, having built one of the best yard spinning facilities in the world over the past 100 years.
“Andy would say that he acted as a co-chair with Richard [Rankin], George [Henry] and me. If we are equals then Andy has been first among equals in our group,” said Gene Matthews, campaign co-chair. “No matter how much Andy deflects attention away from his leadership, he has been the single person who has carried one theme throughout this process as he continually asked, ‘What does GREAT look like for this new Y and Gaston County?’”
Steve Huffstetler, Chair of the Gaston County Metro Y Board, added, “We couldn’t have selected a more deserving family name to place on this YMCA that will welcome families for generations to come.”
The new $20 Million facility on Robinwood Lake will feature a boathouse, an open-air chapel, several waterside athletic fields, and 2 full-sized indoor pools.
The new boathouse will allow members to rent canoes, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, as well as fishing boats with electric motors. Artificial reefs are being installed in the lake, that will be stocked with roughly 40,000 large-mouth bass and bream for fishing.
Two miles of trails are being built through the nearby woods, as well as a day camp village with the ability to camp in tents and secluded spots to meditate in peace.
The facility will also include a 2-story climbing wall and app-accessible cafe that will serve shakes, smoothies, juices, salads, wraps.
The new Warlick Family YMCA will replace 2 outdated facilities – the YMCA Central Branch on Franklin Blvd. and the South Gastonia YMCA on Union Rd.
Grand opening is now scheduled for the middle of next month.
