Mecklenburg County Ends 50 Year Partnership w/ Historic Latta Place After Controversial Event

0

An almost 50 year partnership between Mecklenburg County and Historic Latta Place, Inc. has just abruptly come to an end after a highly controversial event was planned and announced for June 19th (aka Juneteenth).

In promoting the “Kingdom Coming” event, Latta Plantation posted the following description on their website:

“Come out to Historic Latta Plantation for a one-night event, Saturday, June 19, 2021. You will hear stories from the massa himself who is now living in the woods. Federal Troops (Yankees) have him on the run and his former bondsmen have now occupied his home and are now living high on the hog. Hear how they feel about being freedmen. The overseer is now out of a job. What will he do now that he has no one to oversee from can see to can’t see. White refugees have been displaced and have a story to tell as well. Confederate soldiers who will be heading home express their feelings about the downfall of the Confederacy.”

After days of outrage across every social media platform, Mecklenburg County, who owns the land and has contracted with the non-profit since the 70s, decided to not renew their contract, saying “Mecklenburg County has zero tolerance for programs that do not embrace equity and diversity” and that “Parks and Recreation was not aware of the planned event at the Latta Nature Preserve”.

The contract Mecklenburg County has with the non-profit is annual and has to be renewed each June 30th.

After this month, the county plans on managing the Latta House and taking care of the animals and grounds around the house. They are not yet sure if they will hire another vendor to run the operations or manage them themselves.

North Carolinians Among The Least Likely to Switch to Booze-Free Drinks, Reveals Poll

0

America is a beer loving nation; we’re known for the likes of Budweiser, Coors, Pabst and Miller, which have found fans all over the world. But a new market is steadily growing – non-alcoholic beer (and wine). It’s predicted to grow by 7.5% over the next few years as the manufacturing processes and flavors get more sophisticated. While some purists would say there’s no way it could ever taste like the real thing, RecoveryFirst.org, an alcohol and addiction treatment facility, wanted to find out just how many of us would actually be willing to give non-alcoholic drinks a go, and maybe even switch permanently – and those who would never touch a drop of it.

A total of 3,000 drinkers were surveyed to find out which parts of the country are putting up the most resistance to non-alcoholic beer and wine (and other faux alcoholic drinks). Surprisingly, and perhaps disappointingly, the results showed that just 52% of drinkers in The Tar Heel State would be willing to switch to a non-alcoholic version – at least for a month (this is below the national average of 59%). Those from Michigan were most willing to make the switch with 82% of them happy to give it a go. Mississippians, on the other hand, did not embrace the idea; only 30% of respondents would be happy to try alcohol-free beverages for one month.

And when it comes to beer, what is it that really appeals to drinkers, the alcohol content or the taste? An overwhelming 79% agreed that it was actually for the taste – meaning that if non-alcoholic beer manufacturers can get the flavors right, they’re much more likely to convince, or convert, beer drinkers to switch. However, when it came down to a choice between non-alcoholic beer or non-alcoholic wine, just 44% said they’d opt for the latter.

Lastly, the survey asked what drinkers feel is the main advantage of non-alcoholic drinks, and more than half (51%) said it was the joy of not having a hangover! Nineteen percent liked that it meant they were consuming fewer calories, 12% said it was better for their heart health, 9% enjoyed knowing they were not dehydrating themselves (no more feeling parched the morning after), and 9% were happy that it still supports the alcohol industry.

5 Dental Practice Management Tips

0

Managing your own dental practice is a huge responsibility. Beyond just being a good dentist, you have to oversee a team of employees, work with patients, communicate with insurance companies, and manage the overall office. Regardless of the size of your dental practice, it’s a lot of work! In order to run a successful dental practice, you have to pay attention to close details to ensure your patients have the best experience possible. At the end of the day, your patients should be your number one priority. So if you are thinking of starting your own dental practice or are looking for ways to improve your existing one, check out these 5 dental practice management tips:

1. Build a Good Team

Having a team of hardworking and skilled professionals is key to running a successful dental practice. It’s important to spend an adequate amount of time recruiting, interviewing, and training employees so that you can be absolutely positive you’re building a suitable team for your practice. Whether you’re hiring a receptionist or a dental hygienist, be thorough with all your hiring practices. There are plenty of great recruiting resources online if you’re looking to hire new employees for your practice.

2. Have Sufficient Supplies

When it comes to managing your own dental practice, it is imperative that you have sufficient supplies. You want to be prepared at all times. That means having the necessary instruments for procedures, as well as additional dental accessories like dental sharpening stone. It is also a good idea to buy in advance and in bulk to ensure your office is always stoked up.

3. Simplify Communication

In 2021, no one wants to have to answer the phone just for a dental appointment reminder. Instead, you should implement texting reminders in your dental practice. Texting patients appointment reminders, rather than calling, is more convenient and easier for both you and them. You can use a communications service that will send out the reminders via text for you. This will save your employees time from having to make a bunch of phone calls throughout the day.

4. Focus on Marketing

In order to grow your business and expand your client base, you need to focus on marketing. Good marketing can grow your dental practice more than you can imagine. Good marketing means having an accessible website where current and potential clients can go to find information and make appointments, utilizing SEO so that your practice ranks higher in Google searches, and creating advertisements. Having a patient-friendly website with high search ranking is imperative for a successful dental practice, so make sure you focus on marketing.

5. Prioritize Good Company Culture

Good company culture is key for all businesses, including dental practices. You want all of your employees to be excited to come into work every single day. In order to do that, you need to prioritize good company culture that sets the tone for a productive and motivated workplace. But not only is good company culture important for employees, but for patients as well. Your patients should feel comfortable in the office, and having friendly staff will ensure that.

Managing your own dental practice is undeniably a lot of work. You have a myriad of responsibilities and tasks to take on, so it is crucial to be organized and diligent with your work. There is always more to learn when it comes to running your own dental practice, so continue to take advice from others and keep learning to build a business that you are proud of. While running your own dental practice may be stressful at first, you will get the hang of it eventually.

5 Reasons to Start Wearing Perfume

0

How often do you wear perfume? If your answer is rarely or never, now is the perfect time to start. If you know how to wear perfume properly, there are many benefits to wearing your signature scent every day.

Here are five reasons to visit a perfume shop and start wearing your favorite scent.

1. Boost Your Confidence

If you know how to wear perfume, it can really be a confidence booster. When you smell good, you feel good. Whether you’re heading to an important meeting or out on a first date, wearing perfume can help you feel your best.

To really get a confidence boost, make sure that you choose a scent that you truly love and melds with your personality. The right scent can make you feel like you can tackle anything that comes your way. That can be a great help when you need to take on an important task, like landing a job or trying to impress a new romantic partner.

2. Make a Great First Impression

They say that appearance is everything if you want to make a good first impression, but scent can be equally as important. You can be dressed to the nines, but if you don’t smell fresh, you will fail to make a good impression.

Your perfume completes the package. It creates the impression that you care about your appearance and take care of yourself. You take pride in your hygiene and the way you dress. That makes a good first impression, which is important if you’re:

  •         Going to an interview
  •         Heading into a meeting
  •         Going out on a date
  •         Meeting with clients

Truly, anytime you are out in public, you want to make a good first impression on anyone you meet or pass by.

To make the best first impression, make sure that you’re choosing the right scent. For example, wear perfume for day wear when out at work or shopping. Fragrances for night wear may be too overpowering for day wear.

3. Trigger Memories or Emotions

Scents are inexplicably linked to memories and emotions. Certain smells can evoke feelings of happiness and love or sorrow and grief. They can also trigger fond memories and take you back to special moments in time.

For example:

  •         Perhaps you had a favorite perfume that you always wore as a teenager. Wearing that same scent or a similar scent may help you relive those moments when you were carefree and happy.
  •         If you associate the scent of roses with your grandmother, wearing rose scented perfume may remind you of her and evoke feelings of love or joy.
  •         Maybe the smell of cinnamon reminds of you autumn, so wearing a perfume with hints of cinnamon may remind you of crisp fall days and evoke feelings of warmth or coziness.

Scent is a truly powerful thing, and wearing perfume can help you take advantage of this power. When you’re feeling low, the right scent can lift your spirits.

4. Create a Signature Scent

Many people wear perfume because it’s a part of their identity. They have a signature scent that they always wear, and that scent makes them memorable.

Remember that scent is a very powerful thing. If you wear the same perfume every day, others will associate you with that scent and think of you every time smell it.

If you’re wearing perfume as a signature scent, make sure that you choose a timeless scent that you’ll still enjoying wearing years (or decades) from now.

5. Lift Your Mood

If you know the right way to wear perfume, you can use it as a mood booster. Refreshing scents can make you feel energized and uplift your mood. As mentioned previously, you can also use perfume as a way to remind yourself of happier days and evoke joyful feelings.

The right smell can instantly make you feel better.

The beauty of using perfume as a mood lifter is that you can reapply it as necessary to refresh that mood boost throughout the day.

Perfume has been used since ancient times to help people feel their best. People still wear perfume for the same reasons today. If you haven’t adopted a signature scent, these five benefits are great reasons to find one.

7 Tips to Improve Your Sleep Quality

    0

When it comes to your health, getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do. Getting enough sleep helps your body recharge, so you feel refreshed and ready to go each morning. If you’re having trouble getting eight hours of sleep every night, try some of these tips to improve your sleep quality.

    1. Invest in Your Bed

Your bed plays a big role in how well you sleep, from the firmness of your mattress to the quality of your sheets, pillows, and bedspread. If you want to improve your sleep quality, try upgrading your mattress or investing in a comfortable bedding set. You don’t have to spend a fortune on the most expensive bedding or mattress; if you have an old bed, any upgrade will make a big difference.

    2. Stay on a Schedule

It might sound crazy, but your body does a pretty good job of learning your sleep schedule and adapting to it. One way to improve your sleep quality is to try to stick to a schedule, so you’re not throwing your body off. While staying up late on weekends can be tempting, disrupting your sleep schedule can make it hard to fall asleep on time for work when the weekend is over.

    3. Prevent Sleep Problems

You might not know it, but you could have a problem that’s making it difficult for you to sleep at night. Whether you grind your teeth or snore all night long, correcting these problems can be essential to getting a good night’s rest. Luckily, you can pick up a night guard for sleeping for a reasonable price, especially when you consider the damage these guards prevent.

    4. Don’t Eat Late

Your diet can also have quite an effect on your ability to sleep. In particular, eating too late can make it difficult to sleep soundly because your body is still trying to digest the food you ate. If you can help it, try to avoid eating a couple of hours before bed. If you have to eat, choose a light and healthy snack that’s easy to digest so you don’t feel bloated when you lie down.

    5. Don’t Look at Screens

For decades, people have enjoyed falling asleep to episodes of their favorite TV shows. The truth is, looking at your phone, TV, and computer screen before going to bed can make it harder to sleep. Blue light from your smartphone is an especially big problem, which is why using the blue light settings on your phone is a smart idea.

    6. Wake Up Early

You sleep better at night if you’re tired when you lie down. The thing is, you’re not going to be tired if you slept in and spent the day being lazy. When you wake up early, you increase the odds that you’ll feel tired by the end of the day, making it faster to fall asleep at night. Plus, waking up early makes it easier to stick to a sleep schedule.

    7. Monitor the Temperature

If you get too hot at night, try putting a digital thermostat in your room and keeping the temperature around 65 degrees. Most people have trouble sleeping when it’s too hot or too cold, so adding some form of cooling to your room is an effective way to get better sleep. Some high-quality cooling mattresses are even designed specifically for hot sleepers.

Despite sleep being one of the biggest contributors to a healthy lifestyle, people everywhere struggle to get enough sleep. From blue light to snoring and even hot rooms, there are a lot of things that can make it hard to sleep. If you’re having trouble sleeping, give some of these tips a try.

Key Takeaways from Recent Binary Options Scams and Lawsuits

    0

Scams related to binary options trading have been on the rise, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you’re an experienced trader or are just starting to build your investment portfolio, you must carefully weigh the pros and cons of investing in binary options.

The volatile nature of binary options makes them an inherently risky investment. Unless you’re well-versed with the nitty-gritty of the national and global economy, making money from binary options is a herculean task. It isn’t surprising that this form of trading is considered illegal in many countries.

While binary options are legal in the U.S., they’re regulated by the CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) and SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). People can also contact new-age service providers like PayBack LTD for binary options scam recovery, which makes trading slightly safer.

But as an investor, you must be familiar with the warning signs of a potential binary options scam. The last thing you want is to be duped out of your life savings when you’re about to retire. In this blog, we’ll delve deeper into two recent binary options scams and understand how to spot such frauds early on.

    SEC’s Indictment of Spot Option

In April 2021, the SEC filed a lawsuit against Spot Option Tech House Ltd., an Israel-based binary options company, as well as its top executives, Pini Peter and Ran Amiran. The lawsuit stated that the company had duped thousands of investors in the U.S., with many of them being retirees.

The company, which operated between April 2012 and August 2017, caused the investors to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of life savings. Also, the company’s trading and payout terms were formulated to guarantee investor losses.

Apart from civil monetary penalties, the SEC sought disgorgement of the company’s gains, as well as an injunction on its operations

Ban on Three Binary Options Operators in California

The Spot Option lawsuit was followed by another noteworthy judgment by a district court in California in May 2021. The judgment barred three binary options operators, Kai Christian Petersen, Gil Beserglik, and Raz Beserglik, from selling binary options and other securities on the internet.

Also, it imposed hefty penalties and disgorgement on the defendants. Operating between 2014 and 2017, the brokers scammed retail investors in the U.S. and abroad, causing them to lose millions of dollars. Many investors were retirees who lost their entire life savings due to the scam.

They operated under three affiliate brands, namely Bloombex Option, Morton Finance, and Starling Capital. The judgment was the result of a complaint filed by the SEC on September 26, 2019. While the defendants didn’t admit or deny SEC’s allegations, they consented to the court’s final judgment.

What These Scams Teach Us About Binary Options Trading

First things first – binary options trading is always associated with an intrinsic risk factor. Much like gambling, you place your bet on whether an asset will reach a particular value before it expires.

The fundamentally risky nature of binary options makes it easy for fraudsters to get away with scams. But that doesn’t mean you should steer clear of this form of trading. Here are a few important lessons you should learn from the aforementioned binary options scams:

    Verify Your Brokers

This one’s a no-brainer for any type of investment. But it’s all the more crucial for binary options trading considering the volatility and risk associated with it. As a ground rule, before signing up on any binary options trading platform, you should vet the broker’s credentials and experience.

Start by finding out whether they’re registered with regulatory bodies, such as the SEC and CFTC. In both the scams mentioned above, it was found that the brokers ran their operations illegally in the U.S.

Even if a broker tries to woo you with promises of quick and guaranteed returns, make sure you verify their credibility. A genuine operator won’t hesitate to provide you with their license and registration details.

    Check the Payout Terms

One of the biggest factors that helped the Spot Options executives rake in millions while their investors lost money was the dubious payout terms. The operators had set the payout terms in such a way that most investors would lose a majority of their investments within the first five months.

That’s why it is always a good idea to carefully analyze the payout terms of a trading platform before investing. Watch out for potential red flags, such as lock-in periods on investments, and attractive bonuses for locking withdrawals.

It’s crucial considering that most binary options brokers earn profits from the investors’ losses. If an operator tries to tell you otherwise, they aren’t likely worth their salt.

    Avoid International Brokers

In both the aforementioned scams, the companies were operating from overseas. While Spot Option was based in Israel, Petersen and the Beserglik’s ran their operations from boiler rooms in Germany and Israel.

When it comes to binary options trading, it’s wiser to choose brokers who are based in your country of residence. In such cases, the broker would have no other choice but to comply with the guidelines and laws set by financial regulators in the country.

Should You Invest in Binary Options?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The key is to assess your financial situation and identify how much you can afford to lose, in case your investments don’t generate the desired returns. Also, make it a point to work with genuine, licensed, and transparent brokers.
