Over the past week, the Panthers cleared up nearly $10 million in salary cap after cutting 3 of our most beloved veteran players.

The team cut defensive end Charles Johnson, safety Kurt Coleman, and legendary running back Jonathan Stewart.

The cutting of Jonathan Stewart is an especially hard blow to Panther fans, as he not only had one of the best personalities on the team, he also holds one of the highest number of records in franchise history, including;

  • Rush yards: career (7,318), playoffs (423), rookie season (836)

According to ESPN, Kurt Coleman reached a 3-year contract with the New Orlean Saints earlier this morning, which might really hurt us in future divisional games.

According to SB Nation, Buffalo appears to be looking to add a complementary back for LeSean McCoy in the form of a hard-running bruiser – Jonathan Stewart could be that perfect fit with his impressive 3rd down and goal line stats.

50 MPH Winds and 4′ High Waves Sank Excavator Barge On Lake Norman (Video)

Yesterday morning a massive excavator barge sank to the bottom of Lake Norman after extreme wind gusts stirred up 4’+ waves.

The Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue captured a video of the incident after responding to attempt to rescue the barge.

According to their Facebook post, “The crews responded for a tug and barge taking on water. Ultimately the barge and excavator on it sunk. The operators were safe and able to cut the tug free in time. Waves on the lake were reaching 4 feet in spots today, something that only happens once or twice a year. This was due to the 30 mph sustained winds gusting to almost 50 mph.”

The average wind speed on Lake Norman is 2.3 MPH.

According to WindFinder.com, the highest gusts and sustained winds occurred between 10:15am – 11:00am yesterday morning, roughly the time the barge began taking on water;

This past week, a Charlotte resident captured some rather shocking footage on her cell phone of a man fighting with air traffic control after he was kicked off his flight.

On Monday, Feb. 26th, Kelly Smekens recorded the following video of a disruptive passenger who got kicked off a Cincinnati-bound flight departing from Charlotte Douglas International Airport;

Smekens said that airline officials had asked the man to leave the flight over his behavior. Once off the airplane, the man stripped to the waisted and squared off with airport personnel. Video from another passenger shows the man punched one of the airport workers in the confrontation on the tarmac.

American Airlines flight number AA5466 was set to leave at 1:29 pm local time but departed almost 40 minutes later due to the incident with the passenger.

North Carolina Was Ranked America’s #1 State For Business

North Carolina was recently ranked the #1 state in Ameria for Business, according to a new report by Forbes.

The report notes that over the past 2 decades, the Tar Heel state has developed our nation’s strongest business climate, “fueled by low business costs, incentives and a young, educated workforce, many of whom have been trained at the strong universities in the state and Research Triangle Park. Migration rates into the state are among the highest in the U.S. annually. The Tar Heel State is the only one to rank among the top five on FORBES’ Best States for Business for 12 straight years, but it never reached the top rung until now.”

Last year’s report ranked us in the #2 spot. Our business-friendly reputation was slightly hindered after the passage of HB2 (“The Bathroom Bill“), which required people to use the public facilities that correspond to their biological gender. The bill caused an estimated $500 million in lost economic activity, after Deutsche Bank and PayPal canceled their expansion plans and the NBA, NCAA and ACC all pulled their sporting events from our state.

The bill was repealed in March of last year, removing the barriers some companies had to moving here.

To come up with the list, Forbes examined each state across six broad categories: business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life. North Carolina is the only state to rank among the top 20 states in all six categories (click here to see their detailed methodology).

Billy Graham Parkway Shutting Down As President Trump Visits Charlotte

President Donald Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence will all be in attendance at Billy Graham’s funeral (March 2nd starting at 12pm), along with over 2,000 other dignitaries and key political and business leaders.

Because of the president and other high profile visitors, Charlotte officials will be shutting down the Billy Graham Parkway in both directions between South Tryon Street (N.C. 49) and Tyvola Road starting at 9 p.m., Thursday, March 1, until funeral activities at the Billy Graham Library conclude Friday afternoon (estimated to be between 2:30pm-3:30pm).

Motorists traveling east on Billy Graham Parkway will be detoured to Tyvola Road, turning left on South Tryon Street, then back to Woodlawn Road/Billy Graham Parkway.

Motorists traveling west on Woodlawn Road/Billy Graham Parkway will be detoured left onto South Tryon Street, turning right on Tyvola Road, then back to Billy Graham Parkway.

Drivers heading to Charlotte Douglas International Airport should use these alternate routes:

  • From I-77 south of Charlotte, take the I-485 Inner Loop (Exit 1) to Wilkinson Boulevard (Exit 9), continuing east to Josh Birmingham Parkway; or
  • From I-85, take Little Rock Road (Exit 32), continuing south to Josh Birmingham Parkway.

NCDOT will use portable message boards to alert motorists of the detours and overhead message signs advising of the alternate routes.

The South Charlotte Region’s Largest Movie Theater About To Open in Indian Land

A new mega-theater is about to open on the north part of Indian Land, right next to the headquarters of Charlotte’s $1 billion start-up, Red Ventures. The new 53,000 square-foot cinema, with 2,800 stadium seats, and 14 wall-to-wall screens will hold its official grand opening on March 23rd.

According to a press release by developer MPV Properties, “The movie theater, to be called RedStone 14, is just one component of the RedStone shopping center with other tenants including Portofino’s Ristorante Italiano e Pizzeria, Red Rocks Café, Sharonview Federal Credit Union, Viva Chicken, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Pananova Craft Kitchen, Moe’s Southwest Grill, WAFU Japanese Steakhouse, Jackson’s Java, Which Wich, Tropical Smoothie Café, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, and Lee Nails.”

“We are very pleased with the construction progress of RedStone,” says Michael Bilodeau, Development Manager with MPV. “The movie theater and mix of restaurants and shop space will create a first-class retail environment.”

The new development sits at the corner of 160 and 521;

Stone Theatres, the parent company of the new RedStone 14 mega-theater, currently runs 4 other theaters with a total of 56 screens in Myrtle Beach, Fayetteville, Indian Trail, and Morrisville.
