Sustain Charlotte Launches Petition Urging Norfolk Southern to Let CATS Build Red Line

0

Sustain Charlotte launched a petition four days ago, which has already been signed by more than 400 people, urging Norfolk Southern CEO Mr. James Squires and North Carolina Railroad CEO Mr. Carl Warren to work with the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) to coordinate the use of the “O” Line rail corridor for the 25-mile LYNX Red Line commuter rail.

The petition can be viewed at www.sustaincharlotte.org/redlinepetition

When the 2030 Transit Plan was adopted by the Metropolitan Transit Commission in 2006, it was assumed that freight and passenger rail would share the existing track for the Red Line. Then in 2013, Norfolk Southern’s Passenger Rail Policy was changed to no longer allow transit service on freight corridors including the “O” Line despite it being common for freight and passenger rail to share tracks in other parts of the country.

There are no good alternative alignments for building a separate line for commuter or light rail, as all of the possibilities adjacent to this corridor would be extremely expensive and disruptive to existing homes and businesses.

Some signers of the petition have added comments.  Here are just a few:

  • “I live in Huntersville and I would ride the [R]ed [L]ine if the service was acceptable.”
  • “This has never been as important as it is right now!”
  • “This great project will not only help support and sustain growth in the region but affirm continued cooperation between Norfolk Southern and the City of Charlotte (CATS). In addition, it will alleviate traffic burdens along the I-77 corridor.”
  • “We need this. This would make it so much easier for me to not have to drive to/from work and be in the car for hours.”
  • “The Red Line is critical to the development of North Meck. The infrastructure is already there so it will probably be the cheapest line to develop out of the others. North Meck has been in a transportation desert for too long. Build the Red Line NOW!”

The Dos and Don’ts of Replacement Windows for Every Homeowner

0

Although it can feel like your windows can stand the test of time, this isn’t actually true. Sure, high-quality frames and panes can have an extended lifespan, but even these must be replaced at some point. Unfortunately, when the time comes, most homeowners are confused about how to proceed.

If you find yourself in this situation, then this is the guide for you. Here you can learn the top dos and don’ts to make sure that you go about things the right way:

Do Get Professional Help

There are many household projects that you can DIY, but your windows aren’t one of them. Although the whole concept may seem simple enough, you actually require professional help for designs as well as installation. So, don’t try to do this by yourself.

The good news, though, is that there are plenty of companies that can help you. For instance, if you reach out to Canadian Choice Windows & Doors, Calgary office, you will realize that they can help you every step of the way. This way, there are fewer things that can go wrong.

Don’t Estimate Dimensions

Measurements make all the difference when selecting replacement designs. Therefore, this isn’t something that you can afford to make a mistake about. Before you take your measurements, you may want to check with the Edmonton office of Canadian Choice Windows about how you should be noting down measurements.

Are you supposed to measure the frame end to end? Or, should focus on the space in which the frame will be fitted in? Do the technicians need to know the surface area of the glass panes or is this not necessary? The more information that you get, the easier you will find to handle this task in one go.

Do Consider New Options

It can be tempting to stick to an old design or pick the same glass panes as before. After all, it is a choice that you are comfortable with. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t be so quick to settle on something familiar. Instead, take a look around and see what options are available to you.

These days, designs have gotten a lot more versatile and creative. As such, there is a good chance that you will find one that suits your home style and décor even more beautifully. And, when it comes to panes, there are options that are far more insulating and energy efficient.

Don’t Forget About Warranties

Last but certainly not least, it is important to always check the warranty. You want your frames and panes to last as they possibly can – after all, you have to get maximum bang for your buck. So, always know how long your windows are supposed to last.

You should also determine what kind of support you can get depending on the issue that may occur. What does your warranty cover and will you get a replacement or money back? By checking that the guarantee is worth it, you will be making a more economical decision.

These are the top dos and don’ts to be aware of. Keep this in mind and you will have no trouble making your selection.

How to Pass the Korn Ferry Assessment?

0

You know what’s worse than preparing for a pre-employment test? Preparing for one and then discovering that there are many versions of it and then realizing that you studied for the wrong one.

As the years go by, pre-employment test course developers have taken strides in trying to set themselves as the ones to choose when it comes to improving the hiring process and increasing a company’s chances of hiring not only qualified but also talented and hardworking individuals.

On its own, there is nothing wrong with this, but when most of these assessments are primarily known through the name of the company and people rarely use the exam’s very specific name for a particular exam.

You won’t believe that a lot of applicants were turned away almost immediately because they failed to do well in the Korn Ferry Assessment of Leadership Potential because they spent their time with the Korn Ferry Cognitive Ability Test even though the job listing only specified ‘must pass Korn Ferry Assessment’ as one of the requirements.

Unfortunately, even if this is the case, it is very unlikely that your would-be employer would accept this as an excuse because you should have done well either way.

This means that you need to be at least familiar with every version of it so that you can present yourself as the prime candidate to hire even if which Korn Ferry assessment you have to take isn’t explicitly stated.

  • The Korn Ferry Cognitive Ability Tests

If you are aiming for an entry-level position, these are the Korn Ferry tests that you are likely to encounter because they are designed to measure your work-related cognitive skills so that they can have an idea on how well you can function and perform the duties and responsibilities of the job you are applying for.

There are four main cognitive ability tests that you can encounter, namely:

  • The numerical reasoning test, where your ability to perform simple to complex calculations is tested. Most of the questions will utilize a graph, table, or statistical or financial data sheet of some sort in conjunction with word problems, making it almost vital for you to study how each graph or table works.
  • The verbal reasoning test aims to figure out how good your reading comprehension and grammar skills are.
  • The logical reasoning test is designed to measure not only your critical thinking skills but also your problem-solving skills by providing you with a series of shapes or figures and you will need to discover what sequence or pattern it follows in order to select which of the choices fits the missing one.
  • The e-tray test is meant to figure out how good your task prioritization skills are by presenting you with a number of tasks or emails and you will have to arrange them in order of most important to least important to do.
  • The Korn Ferry Situational Judgement Tests (SJTs)

Depending on the needs of the company, a series of SJTs may be administered so that they can see a preview of a candidate’s decision-making skills and if it is compatible with the way things are done at the office.

In this exam, you will be presented with a scenario that is encountered by employees of the company regularly and you will have to either select which of the choices is the best or worst to take or rank the choices from most to least appropriate or vice versa.

To tackle this exam of the Korn Ferry effectively, you will need to research the duties and responsibilities of the position that you are applying for then try to find a middle ground between that and the branding or workstyle that the company is known for.

  • Korn Ferry Assessment of Leadership Potential (KFALP)

Primarily administered to candidates vying for a job that contains a leadership role, this assessment is seen as the personality test of the Korn Ferry assessments due to it following a survey-like format.

When you take this exam, you will be presented with a series of statements, which are linked to a particular trait or quality that the Korn Ferry deems as necessary to have in an effective leader.

From here, you will need to input how you agree or disagree with it, similar to what you would do with a Likert-scale format.

In general, the KFALP aims to measure the candidate’s ability to team build, manage resources,  encourage development within the organization, encourage innovation, maintain authority, and take responsibility both for themselves and their subordinates.

Although this looks incredibly hard to prepare for since there are technically no right or wrong answers in the assessment, a good way to know how to adjust your answers is to research the core values of the company and then try to apply it to the nature of the job that you are applying for.

It’s because the ideal leadership profile of each company is mostly patterned to comply with what is stipulated in their mission, vision, and values, the rest is then filled with what kind of leader is expected for that job.

For example, a supervisor must show that they can maintain authority well, manage resources well for that shift and even for the next one if needed, know how to build their team well so that there is a good cooperative atmosphere between employees, and they need to have a good sense of responsibility.

Being innovative and encouraging development may be on the low side, however.

Team leaders for those in sales on the other hand, are expected to be highly innovative and figure out ways to develop new ways to improve things or pitches in order to boost sales and other metrics.

What Is Medical Negligence?

0

Medical negligence is a tort law term that describes an act of negligence on the part of a healthcare professional that causes injury. The negligent act may be caused by errors in diagnosis, administration, treatment, or even health monitoring. It can occur in any area of medical practice and can range from simple misdiagnosis to the wrong medication being prescribed.

A personal injury can be caused by a slip and fall incident, a workplace accident, or a car crash. But there are also personal injuries that result from the negligence of a health professional. It’s due to the defendant’s (the doctor or hospital/clinician) fault for neglecting a medical condition or misdiagnosing it. So, when will a medical negligence lawsuit help? This article discusses what medical negligence is and whether it’s worth your time and money to file a medical negligence claim in court.

Understanding Medical Negligence

The term ‘medical negligence’ is frequently used interchangeably with ‘malpractice.’ While medical negligence and malpractice are related, it’s important to keep this in mind: not all instances of medical negligence can be considered malpractice, but all medical malpractice cases are a result of negligence.

Here are the important things that you should know about medical negligence, especially if the goal is to receive just compensation for a personal injury:

  1. Informed Consent

There’s more information to digest to fully understand how medical negligence happens. Let’s start with informed consent. The principle of informed consent has been around since the inception of the medical profession but it remains one of the major focuses of medical negligence litigation. What is it about?

  • Informed consent generally refers to the willingness of a person to have certain procedures done that they wouldn’t normally have consented to. With informed consent, there must have been some awareness of the risk involved in the procedure and a reasonable opportunity to decline such a procedure.
  • If this isn’t the case then the defendant can be argued to have merely attempted to go ahead with the procedure knowing that the risk they were taking was excessive or unreasonable.

2. Indirect And Direct Cause

Medical negligence requires that the injury must have resulted either directly or indirectly from the performance of a duty of care by a person or organization.

  • A direct cause of the injury is when the harm was caused directly by the performance of a duty of the doctor or medical professional
  • An indirect cause of the injury is when the harm was caused by the conduct of an organization or an individual which, though having the effect of, or causing the harm itself, did not come close to coming within the ranges of the duty of care.

3. Deadlines And Limitations

If a plaintiff decides to file a medical negligence claim, they must first establish that they have a case. Evidence is needed to help prove negligence on the part of the defendant. Many times, insurance companies will want the plaintiff to present medical records and/or witness testimony to make their medical negligence claims based on these facts. Additionally, the court system will require the plaintiff to show that monetary damages were incurred as a result of the defendant’s negligence.

4. Claims And Litigation

The common elements of medical negligence are that the healthcare professional was negligent in performing his or her duties, the emotional distress caused to the patient, the delay the patient suffered, as well as the financial losses incurred by the patient.

What happens when you submit a personal injury claim or file a lawsuit for medical negligence?

  • If you submit a personal injury claim for a minor injury from medical negligence, the medical malpractice insurance of the medical professional may provide compensation to alleviate your suffering These personal injury claims often center around you being unable to work for some time because of the injury. If this temporary disability happened due to the actions or inaction of a doctor or other healthcare professional, you may be compensated financially for the damages done.
  • If a doctor or other type of health care provider doesn’t follow all legal procedures or fail to diagnose a condition correctly, this will may result in a case being filed against them. Commonly, monetary damages are awarded in cases where the plaintiff has been injured as a result of the negligence of another person. The courts will look at the extent of the injury and the resulting damage to the plaintiff to determine if monetary damages should be awarded. If your ability to continue living a quality life was significantly reduced as a result of the injury, the courts may award more than enough to cover all of your living expenses.
  • If you believe you were unfairly compensated for a negligence-related injury, your lawyer may recommend filing a lawsuit against the healthcare professional and the insurance company. You must hire an expert medical negligence attorney to ensure you get the best results for your case.

Takeaway

Medical negligence can occur in any healthcare setting and at any time. A patient may get sick, injured, or have an adverse reaction to a medical procedure. The resulting damage could be anything from an infection, a botched operation, to permanent disability. When negligence occurs, it can be exceptionally harmful to the victim both physically and mentally.

Many different circumstances may lead a plaintiff to file a medical negligence claim. Because these are typically cases that deal with the actions or inaction of medical professionals, a great deal of evidence must be gathered and presented to prove the negligence. The evidence will often include information from several doctors and healthcare providers, all of whom must testify in court to explain what actions they took and what type of results that resulted. If you believe you’re a victim of medical negligence, you should speak to a personal injury attorney immediately so that your options will be presented to you by a knowledgeable professional.

Here’s When Most Charlotte Residents Will See Their Stimulus Checks
