A few weeks ago, a CMPD officer fatally shot Keith Lamont Scott while serving a warrant for a different man at an apartment complex on Old Concord Rd.
After the shooting, both peaceful protests and violent riots have taken place around Charlotte.

The US National Whitewater Center is about to open America’s first and only permanent “Deep Water Solo Climbing Facility”. In essence, it will include several huge rock climbing walls (25′, 35′ and 45′ tall), with a 16 foot deep pool at the bottom.
The pool at the bottom of the 4 walls will serve as a cushion for both descending and jumping climbers.
The new attraction will be similar to, but much bigger than the temporary ‘solo deep water climbing wall’ that was built last year at the Whitewater Center for their annual Tuckfest:

Paul Aiken, owner of Charlotte-based Aeromach USA, LLC, just joined the elite club of motorcyclists who’ve traveled over 200 mph on two wheels. The run came at this past weekend’s Mojave Magnum event at the Mojave Air and Space Port in California.
Paul’s fastest run hit a max speed of 202.4 mph on Sunday morning after several failed attempts on Saturday.
“After a little bit of confusion on Saturday with the GPS speedometer being set on kilometers per hour reducing my run to just 107 mph we got the setting corrected and I worked my way up to the goal of 200 plus”, Aiken stated. “This experience is both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time!” he continued.
The runs were completed under the watchful eye of Ted Rich and Elaine Carpenter from sbktraining.com, the Phoenix based super bike school. Both Rich and Carpenter are accomplished racers and 200 MPH Club Members. The turbocharged Hyabusa race bikes are prepped at the shops of Rich.

Amazon recently announced that it will be offering free same-day delivery to all Charlotte prime members.
You can now go online in the morning, place an order, and receive it on your doorstep by 9 p.m. the same day – seven days a week. Orders placed in the afternoon or evening will arrive the next day.
“We keep making Prime better, and as our operational capabilities grow, we will continue to invent and expand delivery options that customers love,” commented Greg Greeley, the vice president of Amazon Prime.

Charlotte was once referred to as “The City of Churches”, we used to have a church on virtually every block of the city – even today we have over 1,200 total church brands throughout the greater Charlotte region.
We have an incredible diverse mix of churches – from one of America’s largest multi-site churches (Elevation), to America’s largest catholic parish (St. Matthews), to hundreds historic churches of almost every denomination.
One church, however, is about to do something truly unique.
‘Venture Church’ has just had their rezoning request approved by the Harrisburg Town Council. They will now be building a debt-free, mixed-use church building like no other on 7.98 acres at 9565 Rocky River Road.

The auditorium would be set up so that it could be used for both religious services and events for the hotel on a flexible calendar schedule.
At this week’s rezoning hearing, the issue of taxes were brought up. Typically, a church service or a wedding wouldn’t be considered taxable, but a business conference, with paying hotel guests would be taxable.
City officials stated that the Cabarrus County tax assessor would determine which specific activities on the multi-use project will be taxed after its built.
The new mixed-use church is expected to create at least 100 new jobs, including hotel, restaurant, daycare, and maintenance workers.
Venture Church started about 16 years ago and have since been meeting in temporary facilities, including Jay M. Robinson High School, and Hickory Ridge High School.

The Charlotte Rescue Mission is now planning on feeding over 500 needy families in the Charlotte region.
“Providing a Thanksgiving Food Box for a family in need is a great way to show dignity and respect to our most fragile neighbors” says Rev. Tony Marciano.
They will be able to give a fully cooked turkey to each family, but they are asking the city of Charlotte to help out with the trimmings.
The Rescue Mission is asking for Thanksgiving boxes that include each on of the following:
A food box (16 ½” long x 13” wide x 12 ¼ high – 27 quart)** containing:
Green beans – 38 ounce can
Whole kernel corn – 29 ounce can
Cut sweet yams – 40 ounce can
Cranberry sauce – 14 ounce can
Stove Top stuffing – 6 ounce box
Dinner rolls – 1 package of 12 pre-baked rolls
Spice Cake Mix – 1 Box
Pumpkin Puree (not pie filling) – 15 ounce can
Aluminum Baking Pan for Cake – 9 x 13
They are asking people to drop their boxes off at the Charlotte Rescue Mission, located at Cedar and West First Street, diagonally opposite the Panther Practice Fields on Friday, November 18th or Sunday, November 20th from 11am-4pm.

A man was just arrested in Indian Trail for carrying a hatchet around while dressed as a clown.
Union County police were called to the Wilco convenience store on Chamber Drive this past Sunday evening at around 5pm.
The man was described wearing dark clothing and clown paint on his face. He was gone when police arrived, but a few hour later, they found 20 year old Travis Pressley down the street matching the description. When they searched him, they found marijuana, a pipe, and a hatchet in his backpack.
Officers charged Travis for second-degree trespassing, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
According to his Facebook profile, Travis was also arrested at a Walmart in 2014. He commented that the incident also occurred “4 days before my birthday.”
With all the strange clown incidents happening around the country, it’s more important than ever to be on the lookout for anything that might appear strange.
Over the past month, Charlotte witnessed some of the worst rioting in the city’s history, and South Carolina saw yet another school shooting. With perceived threats of violence at all-time highs (largely due to the media), and citizens worried about possible new regulations and restrictions, gun sales are now at an all time high.
We spoke with Brian Sisson, the owner of The Range at Lake Norman and The Range at Ballantyne to find out what trends he is noticing.
“We’ve seen a 38% increase in concealed carry class sign-ups as well as a 21% percent increase in Gun Sales over the past 6 months alone.” He likes to talk to new customers to find out why they want more training and new tools – this year, he’s noticed Charlotte residents are looking for an increased level of self defense. “Protection is the main factor for most people”.
The trainers at The Range have a much more hands-on approach when compared to other gun ranges. “We concentrate on the new shooter. We teach them how to shoot a firearm, but we go much farther. We teach them how to own, store, carry, and use that firearm if confronted with a threat or in a self-defense situation. We value new shooters to the shooting sports, to ensure they learn proper rules and techniques.”
Both The Range at Lake Norman and The Range at Ballantyne are currently offering their concealed carry class for $150, which also includes a 30 day range membership after taking the class.

In a surprisingly positive trend, Charlotte’s inmate population has dropped by 39% since 2008 (the average daily population went from 2,734 down to 1,661), while over the same period of time, the city’s population increased by about 12.6%.
This inmate reduction is mostly due to the reduction in crime we’ve seen over the past several years. Since 2008, the city has seen an overall reduction in crime by about 25%, including both violent crime, and property crime. Some of the biggest factors that have influenced the reduction include; hiring 125 new officers, recruiting veteran officers from other districts, and the implementation of new initiatives.
The most successful of these initiative has been the Gang Alternative Principles Program, which over seven years, has provided anger management and life-skills and leadership training to almost 700 youth. The program is managed by the nonprofit Charlotte Community Services Association and is housed out of Charlotte’s First Baptist Church-West.
