Authorities Offering $10k Reward For Info About South End Fire That Caused $2 Million in Damage

Authorities are now offering a $10,000 reward for any information that might lead to the arrest of whoever started the fire in several new South End townhomes.

The fire was started early Monday morning and eventually took a total of 60 firefighters to put the fire out while crews evacuated several neighboring apartments next to the Midnight Diner.

Firefighters have ruled that the fire was set intentionally, although they don’t have any solid suspects yet.

The development company has said that they’re not sure when construction might resume now that there is an ongoing criminal investigation.

Cam Newton Is About To Serve A Full Thanksgiving Meal To Over 800 Underprivileged Charlotte Kids

cams-thanksgiving-jam-2016Next Monday, Cam Newton will be putting on the 4th annual “Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam”.

According to a press release, the Cam Newton Foundation, in partnership with Food Lion, will be hosting 800 underprivileged kids (and their families) from the Charlotte region for a massive Thanksgiving day feast and party.

Last year before everyone started eating, Cam hosted a ‘Dab Contest’ to see who could Dab the best:

This years event will include unique entertainment for the kids, other Panther’s players, and tons of Cam (he’ll even be serving the food himself).

Each family will also be going home with a full second Thanksgiving meal to enjoy later in the week.

The Kindreds (owners of Kindred’s Restaurant – voted one of the best in America), have now announced plans to take over the location and build a new concept called Hello, Sailor. It will be a restaurant, bar, and music venue, that will also double as a fully catered marina.

They’re now planning on opening in mid-to-late 2017 after a complete overhaul of the facility.

Their current restaurant, which was opened in Davidson in 2015, has recently been ranked No. 7 among the country’s top 10 restaurants by Bon Appetit magazine, and constantly tops local and regional charts for best food, service, and atmosphere.

Hundreds of Fraudulent Ballots Discovered For Democrat Roy Cooper In North Carolina

roy-cooper-nc-governorA shocking discovery has just been made in the ongoing governor challenge between Democrat Roy Cooper, and Republican Pat McCrory. It involves allegations that several dozen people were paid to submit hundreds of absentee ballots for Roy Cooper and the other Democratic candidates.

According to Bladen County Board of Elections officials, an “overwhelming number” of suspicious write-in votes cast for Democrat Franklin Graham in the race for Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor appear to have “overtly similar” handwriting patterns on the ballots and witness signatures. In many cases, dozens of ballots appear to be filled out and witnessed by the same person without indicating that any voter assistance was provided, a clear example of voter fraud in violation of North Carolina election law. The county and state Boards of Elections are investigating.

Yesterday, the Bladen County Board of Elections allowed the ballots in question to be reviewed by a forensic handwriting expert who corroborated the account that numerous ballots were filled out by the same people. In addition to the write-in votes for Bladen County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor, the fraudulent absentee ballots appear to have been mostly straight ticket votes for Democrats in all other offices, including gubernatorial candidate Roy Cooper.

The N.C. Democratic Party, however, has said that the governor’s campaign was exaggerating the issue to harm Cooper.

“This is an isolated incident that the State Board of Elections is aware of and investigating,” Ford Porter, Cooper’s campaign spokesman, said in response.

A South Carolina mother has just passed her extremely unique birthmark on to her daughter – this is now the fourth generation in her family to possess the white streaking trait.

According to Daily Mail, Brianna Worthy of Ridgeland, SC, and her new daughter MilliAnna, both have nearly identical white patch at the front of their hair.

The unique hair streaking is caused by a condition called poliosis, which permanently causes sections of hair and skin to lose all pigment.

Brianna told Daily Mail that her and her daughter are now stopped on the street on a regular basis by curious onlookers. She enjoys the attention occasionally, but said it can also become overwhelming.

She also mentioned that when she was growing up, she’d get picked on a lot for her white streak. Her peers called her several nicknames including ‘skunk’ and ‘patch’.

She’s now hoping that her daughter can grow up with the same confidence that she was able to develop because she was different.

‘I plan to raise my daughter knowing she is beautiful and special and to not listen to people mean comments at times.’ Brianna commented.

This news comes about a year after the team originally announced that they will be starting a new D-League team. Seven cities were originally considered, with Asheville, Greenville and Fayetteville ending up as finalists.

This decision to finally place the D-League franchise is another major step towards Charlotte joining the modern NBA. The majority of the NBA has also been heading in this direction, and it’s very likely that every franchise will have their own affiliate within the next five to ten years.

It will give the Hornets much more flexibility when it comes to developing players. They can also attract more undrafted rookies, or former second round picks that didn’t make teams, and give them an opportunity to develop with them.

mary ward 95 year old dab on emMary Ward is considered by many to be the ultimate Panthers Fan. She turned 96 over the summer and has now watched every single game the Panthers have ever played since the team first took the field in 1995.

After her son uploaded the now famous picture of her dab on ’em pose, ESPN put it next to a picture of Cam doing the dab and it quickly went viral.

Charlotte Stories filmed a video of her toward the end of last season (when the Panthers were 12-0) – it’s now been viewed over 73,000 times:

Mary is fairly confident that the Panthers are going to win the Super Bowl, saying that she loves how they “pick the ball up on this end and bring it to that end.”

Her fun-loving attitude and unwavering dedication to the Panthers is now inspiring other Panther fans around the world to dab on ’em, and is undoubtedly attracting others to fall in love with the best team in the NFL.

Charlotte’s Biggest Marathon Will Close Numerous Roads Today

Charlotte’s biggest marathon, formerly known as the Thunder Road Marathon, kicks off tomorrow morning at 7:30 am at Romare Bearden Park.

The runners will head down South Graham Street and follow a course through the Dilworth, Myers Park, South End, Third Ward, Belmont, NoDa, Plaza-Midwood, Chantilly, Elizabeth and Second Ward neighborhoods.

Here is the course map for the marathon (you can expect traffic delays and road closures along the entire route today):

Local ‘Graffiti Park’ Has Just Been Approved For Expansion

If you feel the urge to spray paint a wall, you may be in luck. The town of Salisbury (about 30 min. North East of Charlotte) has just approved a new expansion of their community ‘graffiti park’

The park has been around for several years now, but up until this point, it has only consisted of two small walls at 329 S. Main Street:

Salisbury’s Historic Preservation Commission just approved plans to add 9 more walls to the site. Each new wall will measure be 4-feet by 8-feet and will be linked by a common walkway.

The graffiti park currently has restrictions against hate speech, pornography, profanity, and drug or gang related references.

If you don’t want to drive all the way up to Salisbury to let your inner graffiti artist out, you’re out of luck – all grafiti is currently outlawed in Charlotte, and anyone caught doing it can face up to $250 for a first offense and $500 for any additional offenses.
