Rock Hill and York County Police Departments are now working together to investigate a massive explosion in a small community just south of Lake Wylie.
This past Saturday a massive explosion occurred that shot smoke 75 feet into the air and left a five-foot crater around the blast radius.
The sheriff’s report referred to the cause of the explosion as an “incendiary bomb.”
The ‘Movies 10’ theater on Independence Blvd., often referred to locally as the ‘dollar theater’, is about to reopen under new management.
The popular theater unexpectedly closed on August 23rd, but thankfully Carolina Cinemas purchased it from Cinemark for an undisclosed sum and now plans on reopening the theater later this week.
The theater will offer the same pricing as it did earlier this year under Cinemark’s management. Tickets will be $3 on Wednesday-Monday and $1.50 on Tuesdays.
The company plans on updating the theater, including the lobby, hallways, and seats. They will also start offering a much broader selection of snacks, including sandwiches and pizzas at the concession stand.
Carolina Cinemas also owns and operates a ‘standard-priced’ theater off Monroe Rd., as well as two other theaters in Ashville and Raleigh.
One of Charlotte’s first true local breweries, NoDa Brewing Co., has already expanded their distribution throughout North Carolina, including to Fayettville, Chapel Hill, and Asheville. Now they’re preparing to expand around the nation, with a massive new facility that will allow them to quadruple their production.
The Brewery is a true local favorite in Charlotte, and has been receiving notoriety around the world. Last year, they won the gold medal in the IPA category at the World Beer Cup.
Their new 32,000-square-foot facility at 2921 N. Tryon St. will house 60 barrels and 240-barrel fermenters. The new brewery will also have a large taproom with a private event room and more outdoor seating.
On Oct. 1 they will host a grand opening for their new North Tryon St. location, just north of their original home. It will run from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature live music, food trucks and a special “pink brew”.
The event will be in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with proceeds and donations going to breast cancer research.
Many people living in Charlotte will occasionally cross the border into South Carolina to buy gas, but now, we may start getting visitors from even further away. GasBuddy.com has just listed Rock Hill, SC as having the lowest gas prices in America, currently 5 stations are selling gas at $1.69 per gallon for regular unleaded.
According to the GasBuddy, the five stations with the lowest gas are; Walmart at 1225 Cherry Rd, Gulf at 860 Heckle Blvd, QuikTrip at 990 S Cherry Rd, 7-Eleven at 1001 Oakland Ave, and the 7-Eleven at 1657 N Cherry Rd.
South Carolina currently has the lowest gas prices in the nation on average at $2.01.

The city of Gastonia, NC is now a top trending topic on Facebook.
A creepy photo of a cloaked person reportedly dropping pieces of raw meat near a Gastonia playground has now been viewed by millions of people. The story has been picked up by CBS News, The Huffington Post, Fox News, International Business Times, and countless others;
The rumors with the photo said that the person donned a “floor-length, hooded attire. Their identity and gender are also unknown.”
The photo also claimed that the “figure had been dropping meat near a local playground.”
Gastonia Police sent investigators out to meet with the manager of the Hudson Woods Apartment complex about the photo.
They discovered that the setting did indeed match the photos, but they could not say for certain whether the raw meat had been dropped by the cloaked figure.
There is a playground, with the same type of fence, near the wooded parts of the apartment complex, although the cloak does seem to be very similar to one found here.
One of the fastest growing fast food chains in America is about to celebrate a major milestone right here in the Queen City. Zaxby’s recently announced that during the grand opening of its 700th restaurant, the restaurant will host a meet-and-greet with Zaxby’s Racing’s NASCAR Driver, Number 25 John Wes Townley. The first 100 guests also will receive Zaxby’s coveted “deck of cards,” whereby recipients can redeem one free menu item per week during the restaurant’s first year of operation.
Zaxby’s was originally founded in Georgia and is known for its chicken fingers and as being a major competitor of Charlotte-based Bojangles’. The new 3,800-square-foot restaurant at 9308 Robert Irwin Drive, near the Charlotte Premium Outlets, will be Charlotte’s eighth Zaxby’s.
The new location will employ about 40 people and is still hiring.
One of the most reported on trials in Charlotte’s history has just been declared a mistrial by the judge. Protesters from around the country have taken to the streets of Charlotte, demanding an immediate retrial.
#BlackLivesMatter protesters are now calling their protest a “die-in”, blocking traffic throughout the streets of Uptown Charlotte Friday evening;
The protesters started out inside the courtroom, but once the judge declared a mistrial, protesters started laying in the middle of the road to block traffic.
Protesters then marched through the streets of Uptown Charlotte started chanting, “no justice, no peace,” “who are we here for? Jonathan Ferrell,” “justice for Jonathan.” They then started shouting “hands up” “don’t shoot”.
Since she disappeared, exactly 3 years ago, city and state organizations have conducted numerous ground searches, along with many awareness events held by the family for information, with very little clues found to-date.
There is now even a Facebook page dedicated to her discovery with over 5,000 likes.
The cash reward offer of $25,000 will be valid from Aug. 23rd, 2015 to Sept. 23, 2015, and is being coordinated by the CUE Center for Missing Persons.
On the morning of her disappearance, Morrison made a phone call asking for a ride, saying she was ill. She then left her work to wait for a ride home.
Crystal Morrison is about 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing about 100 pounds. She has blonde and red hair, blue eyes, wears contacts and has piercings in her ears. Her son’s name, “Kyson,” is tattooed on the back of her neck and has a “design swirl” on her lower back.

The Jury was just sent home after its first day of deliberations in the voluntary manslaughter trial of CMPD Officer Randall Kerrick – a trial that could become one of the most significant cases to date in Charlotte.
– On September 14th, 2013 Jonathan Ferrell was in a car accident.

Ferrell, a former college football player for Florida A&M University, was in a car in Charlotte at about 2:36 am. He knocked on the door at a nearby home to ask for help. The woman inside the home misinterpreted Ferrell’s desperation and thought he was a robber.
– She called 911 and told them someone was trying to break into her home.
– 3 CMPD police cars spot who they think is Jonathan Ferrell.

– Prosecuting attorneys said Kerrick is guilty, claiming that he did not identify himself as a police officer, and used excessive force (12 gun shots), resulting in the death of Jonathan Ferrell.
– Defense attorneys said Kerrick was justified, claiming that Ferrell charged officers before they could figure out what was happening, and that he tried to grab Kerrick’s gun when he fell on the officer.
– The City of Charlotte has already settled a civil lawsuit with Ferrell’s family for $2.25 million.
– If Kerrick is found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, he could face up to 11 years in prison.
