Owens Corning Opened It’s New $130 Million Plant in Gastonia – Hiring 110 New Employees By End of 2016

Owens Corning just dedicated their new $130 million plant in Gastonia, NC – the largest single investment the Ohio-based company has ever made. The new plant will be primarily focused on growing the company’s non-wovens glass fiber market, particularly the North American construction segment.

The deal for the new Owens’ building, didn’t come without its kick-backs, however. They were given the 47 acres of land as well as $9.3 million in tax refunds from Gaston County. The state gave them $1.69 million as well as an additional $154,000 from North Carolina for training at Gaston College.

In exchange the company promised to create 110 jobs by the end of 2016 as well as significantly increasing their supporting companies footprints throughout Gaston County.

The entire company of Owens-Corning just reported net sales of $1.23 billion for the first quarter of 2016, a year-over-year increase of about 2 percent. They also just purchased roofing materials manufacturer InterWrap for $450 million.

The future is certainly looking bright for both Owens Corning and Gastonia (especially with the new Gaston Outside re-branding campaign).

Charlotte Might Soon Host The Summer X Games

0

Charlotte Motor Speedway Summer X GamesESPN just announced that they will soon be picking the host city for their 2017 Summer X Games.

Charlotte Motor Speedway has submitted the bit for Charlotte to be that city, and has stated that they’ve been in talks with ESPN about hosting the globally televised games.

ESPN noted that they will be looking for a host city for the next two years, so whoever they pick will receive massive exposure in both 2017 and 2018.

Last year, the Summer X Games were watched in over 440 million homes in 196 countries, and gave Austin, TX an economic boost of over $102 million according to ESPN.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway has a good chance of landing the contract, considering it’s one of the largest venues in the southeast, has an abundant amount of lodging, as well as being in a city that continues to attract other national competitions (including the NBA All-Star Game, MLB AAA All-Star Game, and Grand National Curling Championship).

CATS new LYNX Silver Line Plans To Extend Light Rail To Matthews

0

lynx going down to matthewsOur city’s public transit organization, or CATS for short, is now planning one of its most ambition projects in decades. They are now calling it the “Lynx Silver Line”, and they’re hoping it will add an entirely new arm to the light-rail system, extending the reach down to Matthews.

This week, Charlotte and Matthews will be hosting a series of public workshops to discuss options for the new corridor.

CATS is now focused on all the incredible growth taking place in Southend and NoDa, due to the Blue Line and Blue Line Extension. They are confident that the new Silver Line down to Matthews would also provide an incredible catalyst for growth as well.

CATS is now almost finished on their new extension up to University City. The fully extended Blue Line should be operational within the year;

FirstStop Parkwood Station

CATS also recently finished the first section of their highly controversial Gold Line streetcar recently.

CPCC Plans To Tear Down The Historic Double Door Inn To Expand Their Campus

double door in bought by cpccCPCC’s central campus now has plans to tear down the popular music venue in Elizabeth, along with several restaurants and a book store.

Negotiations on the Double Door Inn Venue are still being finalized between the college and the property’s current owner, Nick Karres.

CPCC has secured the adjacent property on the northeast corner of Elizabeth and Charlottetowne avenues – which includes several restaurants, a student book store, and a coffee house & pub – and the college does not plan on renewing any of the leases. They plan on using the land for future growth of the central campus.

The Double Door Inn is one of Charlotte’s last remaining historic music venues, having played host to some of the southeast’s greatest soul, jazz, funk, bluegrass and fusion bands over the past few decades.

Do you think the city should save the Double Door?

“When we open Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, it is a way to honor my family but also to re-invest in Belmont. Our hometown is thriving, and we want to help bring more visitors to town. Kevin, Joe and Nick have always loved visiting Belmont and look forward to their continued visits as we open the restaurant.” Jonas commented in a recent press release.
