Spontaneous Song From Local Charlotte Artist Now Going Viral And Saving People From Suicide

I just got off the phone with my good friend Dennis Reed (the musical genius behind Dabbin’ Granny’s 12-0 song), and I’m now in tears.

Dennis has been touring with Fantasia (the multi-platinum, Grammy winning, American Idol winner – who also happens to be a local Charlottean) over the past few months, helping out in the dressing room, and with whatever else was needed. He told me that last week he was hanging out with Fantasia’s back-up singers backstage when he got on the piano and began to play an old gospel song that he wrote over 10 years ago. When Fantasia walked in the room, she was so touched by the song that she decided to record it on Facebook Live.

To everyone’s surprise, the video exploded – it was viewed over 10 million times, and shared over 300,000 times. Dennis told me that his song on iTunes also blew up – “Necessary” by Dennis Reed & Gap became the #1 downloaded song in the world on iTunes in 1 day.

Fantasia Barrino is about to release her 4th studio album next month as she wraps up her sold-out national tour. It’s truly a new season for the American Idol star who has had her share of trials through the years. The song “Necessary” is the perfect storm of her story of triumph and hope for others going through tough times.

Fantasia and Anthony Hamilton will both be closing their tour with an epic concert next Sunday (June 19th) in Charlotte at the Bojangles Coliseum.

charlotte tech job fairThe N.C. Technology Association is re-launching its Come Tech Out Job Fair series in the Charlotte area next month, with opportunities for both job-seekers and employers.

The first one will be on June 17th, from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM, at CPCC’s Ballantyne Campus.

The NCTA now anticipates more than 20 companies to be represented, with 1,000 or more job opportunities being offered.

Northwest Cabarrus High School Student Among The Victims Of The Orlando Mass Shooting

Yesterday’s terrorist attack in Orlando, FL saw 50 lives tragically taken, and one of those lives was from right here in North Carolina.

33-year-old Shane Tomlinson was a former North Carolina student who graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School, then attended East Carolina University before moving down to Orlando to pursue his dream as a singer (according to his Facebook page).

The City of Orlando has just listed Shane as one of the victims from yesterday’s mass shooting;

Shane was the Manager and Lead Vocalist for the Frequency Band in Orlando, FL. The band mostly performed at weddings, local festivals, and clubs in the Orlando and Tampa region.

Concord Mills is about to get a major makeover, they want to make the interior much more inviting, especially now that so many shoppers are going online for most of their purchases.

concord mills renovationThe outlet mall will begin an interior renovation in May that will wrap up by early 2017, according to a statement Wednesday from Simon Malls, which owns Concord Mills. Improvements will “create a brighter, more inviting atmosphere inside the center,” the company said.

Changes to the mall will include a new dining area with updated seating, tables, flooring, and lighting; four new lounge areas with new seating, updated Wi-Fi network, new paint, more windows, and various other updated interior design elements.

Simon Properties also recently announced a $50 million, 200,000 square foot addition onto their NorthLake Mall property – showing their continued investment and interest in the Charlotte region.

Concord Mills is currently the largest mall in North Carolina, and the most visited tourist attraction in our state.

Charlotte’s Legendary Roasting Company Is Moving To Rock Hill

roasting company rock hillThe now famous restaurant on Montford Drive is about to open its second Charlotte area location in Rock Hill’s historic Gulf station at 122 S. Oakland Ave.

Original owner Doug Bell decided on the new location due to the success of several other new Rock Hill restaurants including; Millstone Pizza and Taphouse, Flipside Restaurant, as well as the influx of other new businesses and people moving to town – specifically around Rock Hill’s downtown area.

The restaurant has become a local legend for their rotisserie chicken, which has a unique style coming mainly from Costa Rican spices and various marinades.

The restaurant will soon be hiring cashiers, prep cooks, production cooks, dishwashers and bartenders.

Ally Financial Buying TradeKing For $275 Million Adding 100 Jobs In Charlotte

ally bank charlotteAlly Financial recently announced the acquisition of a Florida online broker (TradeKing) adding about 100 jobs to its Charlotte workforce.

The purchase is expected to close in the third quarter (regulatory approval is granted) and would include all of TradeKing Group’s offerings: the online broker-dealer service, the company’s robo-advisor platform (TradeKing Advisors), and its educational content, including its popular online trader network, a sort of social media channel for traders.

Ally would purchase TradeKing, including the management of $4.5 billion in client assets, for approximately $275 million.

The acquisition will mean Ally will have about 900 workers in Charlotte.

The Taste of Charlotte Festival just kicked off with record crowds, award winning food, and a national act that was recently featured on America’s Got Talent.

I strolled down the festival’s 6 Tryon Street blocks this afternoon to enjoy all the sights, sounds, and tastes – here’s a quick recap;

Taste of Charlotte will run until Sunday night and will include over 100 unique food offerings from some of the Queen City’s best restaurants, dozens of restaurants, and tons of local and national musicians.

Charlotte Police Searching For Missing 15 Year Old Girl

missing charlotte girlThe mother of a 15 year old girl has filed a missing persons report after her daughter went missing.

Abygail Rachel Grubb was last seen on Carmine Street, just north of Uptown Charlotte, according to police. The young girl is 5’2″ weighs 120 lbs, and has brown eyes and brown hair.

Abygail was last seen wearing a maroon polo shirt, tan, pants, black shoes, and a black windbreaker with pink and white stripes on the side.

Ninti el Bey charlotte squatterA self-described Moorish National group, led by Ninti el Bey, were recently arrested for squatting in an $800,000 home in the South Charlotte neighborhood of Piper Glen. Police finally arrested them after they were warned by neighbors, realtors, the HOA, and even evicted more than once by CMPD.

Over the past several months, Bey, her children, and a group of adults took up residence in the luxurious vacant bank-owned home. The group claimed to be part of an Indigenous Trust that had originally rented the home for $1.

Judge Donnie Hoover found the group’s leader guilty of six of first- and second-degree trespassing, breaking and entering and several vehicle-registration offenses, and sentenced her to 45 days in jail or 1 year of probation and 48 hours of community service. She decided to choose the probation and community service.

North Carolina has recently become a real hot spot for the Moorish Nation, a group that doesn’t recognize federal, state and local laws, and believes heavily in “squatters rights”.

A couple months ago, a Moorish Nation murder defendant, debated with a judge regarding the court’s legal authority to charge him. The same month, a Moorish Nation Charlotte man was charged with the fatal beating of his infant daughter plans to represent himself at his murder trial.

Another recent event involved a Moorish Nation man who referred to himself as ‘Emporer’ called into the WSOCTV news room demanding thousands of dollars every time the news station mentioned the Moorish Nation name.

NorthLake Mall Begins Massive $50 Million Expansion

north lake mall expansionThe owners of the Northlake Mall have just purchased an 11-acre piece of land bordering the current mall where it is now planning on developing a 200,000 square foot “lifestyle component,” connecting the mall’s main entrance to the new facility on the perimeter of the current property.

Full plans and renderings for the new addition will be released later this year. The company has announced that the new development will include home furnishings, full-service and express restaurants, and several entertainment concepts and services.

“Starwood Retail Partners is pleased to be expanding Northlake Mall. This investment allows us to complete the vision that was proposed for Northlake 10 years ago, the new development will be designed to include home furnishings, full service and express restaurants as well as entertainment concepts and services.” remarked Scott Wolstein, the CEO of Starwood Retail Partners.

They expect the new expansion to be completed by late 2017.
