This morning thousands gathered to pray against abortion in Charlotte.

The gathering was organized by Love Life Charlotte, a local non-profit that organizes prayer marches, helps struggling mothers with finances and housing, and assists Charlotte families through the adoption process.

People from over a dozen churches across the Charlotte region gathered from 7:30am-10:30am around a stage set up about a 1/2 mile down the road from A Preferred Women’s Health Center (Charlotte’s busiest abortion clinic) on Latrobe Dr.

The day was not without incidents.

While the prayer walk participants were still at the stage, a dispute arose at the abortion clinic over whether or not Love Life Charlotte could have both a parade permit and a sound permit.

CMPD officers decided that they could only have one permit in place at a time, and since the parade permit overruled the sound permit, they would have to turn off their amplified speakers in front of the abortion clinic.

After the sound was turned off by order of the police, Flip Benham, an independent pro-life activist (not affiliated with Love Life Charlotte), told the man behind the soundboard to turn the sound back on. He then took the microphone and proceeded to speak out against abortion through the speakers.

After about 5 minutes of speaking, CMPD officers handcuffed Flip and the man behind the soundboard.

About an hour later, Flip and the man behind the soundboard were both released with citations.

The prayer walk itself was rather peaceful.

At about 10:30am the prayer walk participants began walking from the stage area toward the abortion clinic with a police escort.

The front of the prayer walk reached the abortion clinic at about 10:45am.

The majority of the participants re-gathered around the stage for another 20-30 minutes until about noon.

Attention photographers and astronomy fans – the first and only Supermoon of 2017 is coming this weekend!

This year’s Supermoon (now being called the ‘Cold Moon’) will rise in Charlotte at exactly 5:39pm on Sunday night (12/3), and set on Monday Morning at 8:05am (12/4), according to timeanddate.com.

The somewhat rare phenomena of a Supermoon occurs when a full moon is at perigee or its closest approach to Earth during its orbit. This weekend’s rare ‘Cold Moon’ perigee will climax on Monday, December 4, at 3:43am, when the moon will be exactly 222,137 miles away from the earth.

The last supermooon to hit the night skies was over a year ago, and it was closer to Earth than it’s been since 1948. It won’t be that close until 2034.

This weekend, the moon won’t actually change in size, but it will be significantly closer to the earth than usual. Sunday night’s supermoon will appear about 14% bigger and about 30% brighter than the average full moon.

The weather forecast for Sunday night is showing clear skies, so it should be the perfect night in Charlotte for some epic photos.

Business Insider just released a new study which names Charlotte as the top city in America where “millennials are flocking to in droves”.

The study compared data from several different sources, including personal-finance company SmartAsset, real-estate-analytics firm RCLCO, and mortgage-software company Ellie Mae. They concluded that Charlotte is now the top city, followed closely by Seattle, WA, and Oakland, CA.

The report notes, “The millennial population of Charlotte, the biggest city in North Carolina, grew by nearly 11,000 in 2015, the latest year for which there is data.” Seattle attracted 10,000 and Oakland attracted 7,500 that same year.

A few months ago Niche.com also ranked the Queen City as a top destination for Millennials, citing our growing number of breweries, coffee shops, restaurants, and high-paying jobs.

As a fan of weather and a former resident of NJ this time of year it’s always nice to hope for a white Xmas. I know historically speaking there is a VERY LOW probably for this occurrence in Charlotte and better in NJ where if I recall we had 2 of 10 in past decade. 

Having said that the weather pattern is the best I have seen in years for the possibility of snow leading up to the holidays even in the South East!

The US generated weather model (GFS) actually shows snow cover in the deep south for the first 2 weeks of December! 

None too reliable, but it supports the weather pattern and my thoughts.
