Over 200,000 Lbs of Spam Recalled After Metal Pieces Found Embedded in ‘Meat’

Over 220,000 lbs of America’s favorite canned ham has just been recalled after metal pieces were discovered embedded in the “meat”.

According to the USDA’s official recall, there have been several reports of minor oral injuries associated with consumption of the affect cans of Classic Spam.

The following products, February 8 through February 10, 2018, are subject to recall:  (View Labels)

  • 12-oz. metal cans containing “SPAM Classic” with a “Best By” February 2021 date and production codes: F020881, F020882, F020883, F020884, F020885, F020886, F020887, F020888 and F020889. These products were shipped throughout the United States.
  • 12-oz. metal cans containing “Hormel Foods Black-Label Luncheon Loaf” with a “Best By” February 2021 date and production codes F02098 and F02108.

Officials are urging consumers to throw away or return all recalled cans. Hormel consumer response can be contacted at 800-523-4635.

North Carolina High School Teacher Suspended For Choking Student (Video)

A North Carolina high school teacher has just been put on administrative leave after a video surfaced showing him choking a student in the hallway.

The video was uploaded by another student and shows Apex High School Teacher Brian Kelley with his hands wrapped around a students neck and pinned against the wall. Kelley works in the Healthful Living Department, according to school officials.

An internal investigation is now pending with Wake County schools.

Many people say that incidents like this are evidence that teachers should not be armed;

President Trump has shown strong support for the idea of arming teachers in recent months, as school shootings continue to increase;

Several schools in North Carolina have already started arming teacher aids.

North Carolina Introducing New Bill To Radically Decriminalize Marijuana

NC Representative Kelly Alexander, Jr. has just introduced House Bill 994, which would radically revise North Carolina’s criminal marijuana laws if passed.

HB 994 is officially entitled; “AN ACT TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA THAT MAY BE LEGALLY POSSESSED FOR PERSONAL USE AND TO ALLOW FOR THE EXPUNCTION OF RECORDS RELATED TO CERTAIN CONVICTIONS FOR POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA.”

The bill would essentially do 4 things if passed;

  • Remove all criminal penalties for possession of up to 4 ounces of Marijuana (currently possession of 1/2 ounce will result in a class 3 misdemeanor).
  • Reduce penalty for more than 4 ounces to a class 1 misdemeanor.
  • Increase amount required for a class 1 felony from 1.5 ounces to 16 ounces (1 lb).
  • Allow anyone with a prior conviction of possession of under 4 ounces to pay $100 fee and have their conviction expunged.

Last year, Rep. Alexander unsuccessfully tried to pass HB 185, North Carolina’s “Medical Cannabis Act”, which would have essentially allowed residents with qualifying conditions to legally possess and use marijuana. The bill was initially blocked by Chairman Representative David Lewis (District 53) and it eventually stalled in the House.

Marijuana is currently listed on the federal books as a Schedule I Drug, meaning it has “no medical value,” but there are now a total of 30 states and the District of Columbia who have laws broadly legalizing marijuana in some form;

A 2017 Elon Poll showed 80 percent of North Carolina voters are in favor of medical marijuana, however, some NC Democrats, and most NC Republicans are still fearful of how voting yes on marijuana would appear to voters.

GoFundMe Launched To Help Self Family After Deadly Gaston County Diner Crash

A GoFundMe page has been established to help the victims of a deadly Bessemer City restaurant crash.

According to the GoFundMe campaign, the “proceeds raised will help family members with hospital, funeral, and other expenses they incur during this difficult recovery process.”

The campaign has already raised over $20,000 out of the $100,000 goal.

The tragic incident occurred on May 20th at around noon when Roger Self crashed his Jeep SUV into the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City, killing his own daughter and daughter-in-law, as well as injuring his wife, son and grandchild.

According to witnesses, Roger Self brought his family into the restaurant just before noon, when they were all seated, he left his seat, walked outside, got into his Jeep, and proceeded to drive into the side of the building.

Chainsaws Recalled From Charlotte Stores – Cut Users After Being Turned Off

A massive recall has just been issued for chainsaws sold at Charlotte area stores after many continued to run after being turned off.

There have now been at least 15 injuries reported from the defective chainsaws, including 3 lacerations and 1 major arm injury that required stitches.

According to the US Consumer Safety Commission, “This recall involves two models of 14 inch chainsaws sold under three different brand names. The Portland and One Stop Gardens brand chainsaws have a green and black color scheme and  “Portland” printed on the blades. The Chicago Electric brand chainsaw has a red and black color scheme and “Chicago Electric” printed on the chainsaw handle. All recalled chainsaws were sold with a black blade guard. The model number is printed on a label on the bottom of the chainsaw.”

The defective saws were sold at Harbor Freight Tools stores across the Charlotte area, at harborfreight.com, and on Amazon.com (all recalled saws have now been pulled from Amazon) between May 2009 and February 2018 for about $50.

The commission warned any owners to stop using their saws immediately and return them to a local Harbor Freight Tools store for a free replacement.

Charlotte’s Largest Ever ‘Corpse Flower’ Just Bloomed At UNCC

Charlotte’s biggest ‘corpse flower’, nicknamed ‘Odie’, has just opened up at UNCC’s botanical gardens.

The ‘corpse flower’ or titan arum, is the largest unstemmed inflorescence flower in the world, and Odie is now officially the largest titan arum to ever bloom in Charlotte. The massive flower typically requires between 7–10 years of growth before it will bloom for the first time, and each bloom only lasts between 12-24 hours before wilting.

If you want to see this beauty in person, you’ll have to make it to the UNCC Botanical Gardens before tomorrow night;

The plant is native of the jungles of Sumatra, where it can produce massive flower structures in excess of 10 feet in height. When cultivated, the structures typically range between 5-8 feet tall.

The plant is nicknamed the ‘corpse flower’ because of it’s extremely strong and extremely unpleasant scent. The chemicals released by the spadix include dimethyl trisulfide (limburger cheese), trimethylamine (rotting fish), isovaleric acid (sweaty socks), benzyl alcohol (sweet floral scent), phenol (like Chloraseptic), and indole (like human feces). The plant uses all of these foul scents to attract bugs and beetles to help it pollinate.

UNCC’s botanical gardens saw their first corpse flower bloom back in 2007, when over 4,000 people lined up to watch ‘Bella’ bloom. The plant bloomed once more in 2010 before dying died. Their second blooming corpse flower, named Odie, opened for the first time in 2015.

Trump National Golf Club Charlotte on the banks of Lake Norman generated $15.016 million in 2017, according to the 92-page Trump Financial Disclosure document (page 17) filed May 15 with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. The entry is on the same page as one of Trump’s most controversial entities, THC China Development, which is planning on building at least 20 Trump Hotels in major Chinese cities.

The Lake Norman golf club outperformed most of Trump’s other golf properties in Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Westchester and Hudson Valley, New York; Colts Neck, New Jersey; and even Scotland – all except for Trump National Doral in Miami, with $75 million in revenue, and the Mar-a-Largo Club (“Winter White House”, according to Trump), which generated $25 million last year.

Trump originally paid $3 million for the Mooresville club in 2012, then called The Point. His team has since put about $12 million into improvements, according to the president’s son Eric Trump, who is now running most of Trump’s assets along with his brother, Donald Jr.

Trump’s family also owns several other holdings in the Charlotte region, including a real estate brokerage, a furniture showroom, and substantial stock in Bank of America and VF Corp.

NC Gun Maker Remington – The Oldest in America – About To File For Bankruptcy

America’s oldest gunmaker, Remington Arms, now headquartered in Madison, North Carolina, has just reached an agreement with its creditors to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The gun maker has been pummeled by recent lawsuits tied to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, and falling sales from recent political policies.

A lawsuit claimed the company had some degree of responsibility for the shooting after producing and marketing the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle that was used. They have since won the legal battle and have been cleared of any responsibility over the shooting, but not without significant damage from their investors and buyers.

The Trump administration has also been bad news for the company. After significantly looser gun regulations have passed and vocal support for the NRA has continued, fear-motivated gun buying (as was common during the Obama administration) has all but dried up.

Donald Trump even became the first sitting president to publically address the National Rifle Association in over 30 years. During his address last Spring, he told NRA members, “You have a true friend and champion in the White House.”

Firearm background checks, which have historically been a good measure of gun sales, rose steadily under the Obama administration, then began to fall off sharply when the current administration took office;

 

Remington‘s biggest American rival, Colt, also went through bankruptcy reorganization in 2015, and this isn’t “the first time Remington has been in financial trouble; it probably won’t be the last,” the president of the Independent Firearm Owners Association, Richard Feldman, told Bloomberg News. Feldman also sees hope on the horizon with the midterm elections: “I suspect that if the Democrats make a resurgence this November, gun company stocks will come roaring back with them.”

Coyote Attacks Father and 7-Year-Old Daughter An Hour North of Charlotte

Coyotes sightings are becoming an increasingly common event around the Charlotte region, although, until recently, attacks on people have been almost unheard of.

According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, there have not been any recorded attacks in North Carolina until nine-year-old Madilyn Fowler was attacked outside of her home in Davie County about 9 weeks ago.

This past weekend, a second attack was recorded in the same county;

Davie County is about an hour north of Charlotte;

Since coyotes are not native to our state, they have become an increasingly invasive species – growing in unsustainable numbers, competing against local foxes and wolves, and killing domesticated animals.

They can now be hunted year-round, even at night using flashlights – they can also be legally trapped from Nov. 1 to Feb. 28. North Carolina even hosts an annual coyote hunting tournament at the beginning of each year.

Some residents are now equipping their yards with flashing light coyote deterrents, and ultrasonic pest repellers, both of which work on solar power and are motion sensitive.

Officials with the animal control recommend:

▪ Keeping your yard free of any garbage or lingering food smells.

▪ Keep dogs on leashes when walking them, as coyotes are much less likely to approach if a person is nearby.

▪ Look around your backyard for the animals before you let the dogs out.

▪ If you encounter a coyote, back away slowly while yelling and waving your arms. Don’t run.

▪ Call 911 if you are being threatened by coyotes or other animals.
