Class Action Suit Being Filed Against Charlotte Hardee’s Over Hepatitis A Outbreak

A massive class action lawsuit has just been filed against a Hardee’s restaurant in Charlotte after thousands were vaccinated for Hepatitis A at the urging of the CDC this past week.

The lawsuit is being organized by Ayers, Whitlow & Dressler, a Charlotte-based personal injury law firm.

The firm now says that upwards of 4,000 individuals could have been exposed to Hepatitis A between June 13-23 while dining at the Little Rock Rd. Hardees.

The lawsuit will include damages for; potential exposure, suffering, wage loss, medical and travel expenses, emotional distress, fear of harm and humiliation, pain or injury.

15 Activist Groups Planning Vigil in Uptown Charlotte To “End The War On Immigrants”

Over a dozen local activist groups will be uniting this evening in Uptown Charlotte to protest what they are calling the ‘war on immigrants’.

According to their Facebook event, the vigil is being called “End the war on immigrants,” and it’s currently scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. this evening in First Ward Park.

“Please Join us as we gather at First Ward Park to hold a Rally with a candlelight vigil to follow demanding that we keep families together and out of jail. ❤”

‘A Day Without Immigrants’ march in Uptown Charlotte – Feb. 2017

The activist groups are specifically demanding that;

– The Trump administration must end the war on immigrants

– Families must be reunited and allowed to apply for asylum outside of detention centers in the United States

– Our local, state, and federal elected officials must defend due process for these families

– Our local, state, and federal elected officials must be proactive in their defense of these families

– Attorney General Jeff Sessions and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen must resign

– Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) must be abolished

Tonight’s vigil is being hosted by; The Latin American Coalition, The Coalition for Cultural Compassion , Shining Stars Academy, Indivisible Charlotte, Comunidad Colectiva and Action NC, and supported by; Charlotte Women’s March, Next Gen America, Indivisible NC District 9, Our Bridge, Carolina Jews For Justice Greater Charlotte, League of Women Voters Charlotte, National Organization for Women, Temple Israel ACLU, Queens University of Charlotte Stan Grenspon Center For Peace and Social Justice, and Temple Beth El.

The Panthers starting running back, Christian McCaffrey, recently performed an incredibly daring rescue of an elderly man when he was hiking in Colorado.

While McCaffrey and his brothers Dyland and Max were out hiking, they witnessed a truly horrifying sight – an elderly man falling onto a rock from 20 feet up.

Carolina Panthers New Owner David Tepper Will Be Buying Out All Minority Owners

The Carolina Panther’s new majority owner, David Tepper, just made the decision to buy out all minority owners of the team, according to sources with Sports Business Daily (SBD).

His 48% share purchase from Jerry Richardson gave him the exclusive right to buy minority shares if he chose.

According to SBD, “Tepper’s purchase values the Panthers at $2.275B, so the decision to buy out the other 52% is obviously a pricey one. The deal is expected to close next month or by early August.”

The current limited partners include Jerry Richardson’s wife Rosalind; his children Mark and Ashley; M.C. Belk Pilon; Katie Belk Morris; H.C. Bissell; Erskine Bowles; Derick Close; Elliott Close; Cameron Harris; John Harris; Leon Levine; Jerry Wordsworth; and Steve Wordsworth. All of the minority owners live in Charlotte, other than the Wordworths, who live in Rocky Mount, NC.

The decision by Tepper wasn’t a total surprise, as he commented about the difficulty of having minority owners during last month’s news conference;

“I’m trying to determine the development I want to have in the community. So the more development there is in the community, it might make it more difficult to have minority partners.”

The minority owner buyout is expected to close sometime in late July or early August.

Jochen and Bianca Wittgraefe of Mooresville are delighted to announce the groundbreaking of their new 15-acre, equestrian facility, Lakeside Farms and Stables, located next to the Hatler House on the Point, 109 Chuckwood Road.

Jochen, who owns a wholesale supplier of auto parts, along with his wife, Bianca and daughters, Emma and Lily, are the visionaries behind the equestrian center.  “Our eldest daughter, Emma, 13, is the inspiration for this business venture,” says Jochen.  “She has been riding horses for a little over seven years, with over four at Lenux Stables and Riding Academy off exit 23 in Huntersville.  The commute on I-77 is a nightmare, so we wanted to have something closer to home,” he says.

To take matters into their own hands, Jochen and Bianca purchased 15 acres on Chuckwood, installed 217 pilings to stabilize the ground on the former construction dumping site, hired Amish craftsmen out of Hamptonville, NC to createthe deluxe equestrian center complete with an outdoor 9,500 square foot riding arena, a fully enclosed 20,744 square foot indoor riding arena, 12 stalls, a tack room, kitchen, break room and a grooming area.  There’s plans for an on-site caretaker’s house to monitor the American Saddlebred horses at all times.

Brooke and Quintus VanderSpuy, the owner/operators of Lenux Stables in Huntersville, will operate Lakeside Farms and Stables in Mooresville.  “With two Lake Norman locations, we are better able to serve more children in the community,” says Brooke.  “We will be offering horseback riding lessons, professional training, summer and winter camp programs and birthday parties,” she adds.  Both the Wittgraefe’s and the VanderSpuy’s agree that spending time around horses is very therapeutic.  It not only reduces the amount of time kids’ spend on social media, it teaches them valuable life lessons of compassion and responsibility.

Black Bear Sends Shoppers Running At South Charlotte’s Stonecrest Center

A full-grown black bear was spotted in South Charlotte last night. At about midnight, several shoppers spotted a bear walking among the cars in front of the Stonecrest shopping center.

According to WCNC, everyone scattered once the word of the sighting spread.

No injuries were reported.

Bear sightings have been increasing around the Charlotte area over the past couple years.

Last May, a large black bear was spotted rummaging through neighborhood trash cans in Waxhaw, and last fall, an elderly woman chased one out of her yard in Iredell County.

Officials with the NC Wildlife Resource Commission are warning residents around Charlotte and Raleigh that as development continues to encroach on the bear’s natural habits, sightings and possibly even encounters will follow suit.

If you live near a wooded area or a new development, experts recommend having bear spray or a bear horn readily accessible.

CDC Urging Visitors To This Charlotte Hardees To Get Hepatitis A Vaccination

Mecklenburg County health officials are now urging anyone who has eaten at a local Hardees restaurant over the past couple weeks to get a Hepatitis A vaccination as soon as possible.

A worker at the Little Rock Road Hardee’s location was diagnosed with Hepatitis A on June 25;

The Hardees employee is now the 6th case identified by the CDC this month in Mecklenburg County that is part of a state-wide outbreak.

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver disease that spreads with a virus through the fecal-oral route, when a contagious person forgets to wash their hands after using the bathroom, through eating contaminated foods, or by having sexual contact with an infected person.

“After consulting with the State today, we are recommending a vaccination for exposed employees and patrons who ate at the 2604 Little Rock Road location between June 13 and 23,” Public Health Director Gibbie Harris commented. “According to the CDC, the vaccine must be given within 14 days of exposure for the vaccine to be effective.”

Anyone who’s eaten at the restaurant since June 13th is “strongly urged” to get a shot as soon as possible.

Charlotte public health officials will now be conducting vaccination clinics for anyone exposed to Hardees or those who have high-risk factors.

Vaccination clinics will be held:

  • Wednesday, June 27 from 8 a.m. – 7.p.m, and Thursday, June 28 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at Northwest Health Department, 2845 Beatties Ford Rd. and Southeast Health Department, 249 Billingsley Rd., Charlotte.
  • Friday, June 29 from 3 p.m. – 8p.m. at the Hal Marshall Building, 700 N. Tryon St., Charlotte.
  • Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Hal Marshall Building, 700 N. Tryon St, Charlotte.

With Americans preparing to show their national pride this Fourth of July, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2018’s Most Patriotic States in America.

To determine where Americans have the most red, white and blue pride, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 13 key indicators of patriotism. The data set ranges from average number of military enlistees to share of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.

The Tar Heel State ranked just behind our neighboring states of South Carolina (#4) and Virginia (#1);

Powerful Storms Leave Thousands Without Power in Charlotte

Thousands of Charlotte-area residents had their power knocked out last night after a powerful storm blew through our region.

The storm started at about 4pm yesterday evening, bringing powerful winds and heavy downpours;

As of 9:00 am on Tuesday morning, there are still over 1,000 without power in Charlotte;

We should see another round of thunderstorms starting later this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Amazon Chooses Charlotte For New High-Tech $200 Million Center – Adding 1,500 New Jobs

The Charlotte City Council recently approved a massive new incentives package in order to finalize a deal with Amazon for a massive new prototype distribution center in West Charlotte.

The council voted to sell the tech giant 100 acres of undeveloped land on the west side for $7.5 million and to give them $13.4 million in incentives for a $200 million distribution center that Amazon promises will bring at least 1,500 new jobs to the area.

The new facility will be located on the southeast corner of 485 and Wilkinson Blvd;

Amazon chose Charlotte as 1 of 6 locations across the country to prototype a new kind of state-of-the-art automated facility.

Amazon currently has one traditional distribution center near the Charlotte Douglas Airport, and another one in Concord.
