tega cay developmentA massive new mixed-use development is now planned for Tega Cay that now includes 600 new homes, as well as retail, commercial, and recreational space for dozens of new tenants.

Windhaven will be the name for the development just north of Gold Hill Rd.

The developer has already bought up a total of nine properties, totaling more than 75 acres.

The city only approved the plan after the developer promised to set aside 20 acres for recreation uses, as well as a site for a school.

New Pig Poop Power Plant Breaking Ground in North Carolina

Plans for a long-anticipated biogas plant to help power homes supplied by Duke Energy are now back on track. Methane from hog excrement will be extracted from the waste and funneled into pipelines, powering some 8,000 North Carolina homes.

According to Boulder’s Daily Camera, this is how the process will work:

“Anaerobic digesters at the plant will convert waste materials sourced from area food producers into biogas, a sustainable and renewable energy product. The gas will then be injected into the Piedmont Natural Gas pipeline system and delivered to Duke Energy for electricity production to serve its customers in North Carolina, the release stated.”

Plans for the plant were originally proposed in 2016, but the company leading the charge (Carbon Cycle Energy, or C2e) struggled to secure finances for the project. They’ve worked out the kinks needed to satisfy investors – mainly locking down the technology – and construction is set to begin in March 2019, becoming operational in 2020. C2e, based in Boulder, CO purchased lands near Warsaw, NC (Duplin County, just east of Fayetteville) to construct the plant.

The original project was expected to cost $100 Million, and produce at least 2.4 million dekatherms of natural-gas quality methane each year, powering 100,000 homes. The current project will be smaller, producing 1.8 million dekatherms, powering 8,000 homes.

Duke Energy will purchase all of the biogas produced by the facility, helping them meet North Carolina’s Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (REPS) regulations.

This will be the first hog excrement power plant built by C2e.

The Charlotte Hornet’s new star Tony Parker dominated the end of last night’s game by pounding 17 of his 19 points during the last 6 minutes of the game, giving the Hornets a final score of 100-87.

The nail-biting win gave Charlotte it’s needed revenge against the Brooklyn Nets after Thursday night’s double-overtime loss.

Parker seemed to be untouchable in the final minutes of the game as he rolled past defenders and sunk almost every shot he took.

“I think the fourth quarter fuels a number of players,” Borrego said. “Not every player, but the special ones are fueled by the fourth. It’s winning time, and both (Parker and Walker) are fueled by it.”

Kemba Walker scored 29 points and made seven 3-pointers — most of them playing off the ball — and the Nets seemed to have no answer for the combination.

The Hornets closed out last night’s win to pull even at .500 on the season.

Next, they will now face off against the Wizards tomorrow night.

In spite of the ever-increasing traffic around the Charlotte region, and the I-77 Tolls being ranked one of the worst highway projects in America, our state is still one of the best places to go for a drive in the country.

Financial analyst website WalletHub.com has just ranked the Tar Heel state 2018’s 5th Best State To Drive In.

“To identify the states with the most positive driving experiences, WalletHub compared all 50 states across 23 key indicators of a positive commute. Our data set ranges from average gas prices to share of rush-hour traffic congestion to road quality,” according to the site.

Since 2008, the semi-annual promotion has helped introduce or reintroduce residents and visitors to restaurants around the metro area, now including participating establishments in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Rowan, Iredell, Lincoln, Gaston, Catawba, and York counties.

Charlotte Now Under A Flood Advisory For This Weekend

A massive new storm system is now poised to dump up to 3 inches of rain on our already saturated region this weekend.

The National Weather Service just issued a flood advisory for Northern Georgia and the Carolina Piedmont;

“Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall through today will combine with wet conditions and already high stream levels to produce excessive water runoff in many areas. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are likely across the region, with locally higher amounts in the extreme southern Appalachians.”

According to Weather Underground, Charlotte could see up to a half-an-inch by this afternoon and almost an inch by tomorrow morning;

We should see some of the heaviest rainfall this afternoon between 1:30-3:30 pm;

We’ll also be seeing continued showers through early next week and into the new year, with at least another inch of rain predicted through next Friday;

If your property is near a body of water or stream, take some time today to remove any loose items, such as lawn chairs and leaves, and be sure to clear leaves and debris from drains and pipes.

Police Asking For Help In Finding Suspects From Deadly Huntersville Shooting

Yesterday a shooting occurred at a Huntersville apartment complex, leaving 1 person dead and another critically injured, according to police.

The tragedy occurred at about 10 am yesterday morning at the Brookson Apartments on Bryton Pass Lane, near the Northlake Mall.

Huntersville police are now asking for the public’s help in finding the 2 men who are now suspects in the shooting. They are described as being black males in their mid-20s. One was dressed in all grey and the other was dressed in all black. They reportedly fled the scene in a late-model 4-door Honda Civic.

Police have not yet released the identitiy of the man who died or the other man who was transported to the hospital.

Scammers in Charlotte Are Telling Victims They’re From Duke Energy

27648604-image-scam-alert-genericThe next time you receive a call from someone telling you they’re from Duke Energy, be wary!

A scam has been going around the Charlotte region that involves someone who claims to be from the energy company and demanding money in order to keep your power on.

According to the Better Business Bureau, utility scams are on the rise around the country, and especially here in the Carolinas.

Duke Energy and the BBB even held a joint press conference this past week to address the new increase in scams.

“These scammers are very active, very aggressive. Even the most savvy businesses are being taken for thousands of dollars.” commented Duke Energy representative Jared Lawrence.

Since last year, there have been a total of 675 reports of Charlotte area residents being scammed out of money from people claiming to be from Duke Energy – a total of $80,257 was stolen, according to Lawrence.

Duke Energy has even released the following video on how to spot a scammer:

If you receive a call from someone who claims to be from Duke Energy and threatens to turn off your energy, hang up, and call Duke Energy directly to inquire about your account.
