Charlotte Hornets vs. Chicago Bulls Prediction

0

The 2019 pre-season is done and dusted and Charlotte Hornets are now looking to step into the 2019 NBA season. The first match that Hornets are playing at the start of the new NBA season is against the Chicago Bulls. It will be a home game for the Hornets and is to be played at Spectrum Center, Charlotte, NC on 23rd October 2019 at 23:00 hours UTC. The pre-season has been a tough road and the Charlotte Hornets were able to just win one out of the five matches they played. This will be the first game of the new season for both teams. The Chicago Bulls, on the other hand, have a pre-season record of 2 wins and 3 losses. From these statistics, it can be said that the two teams are more or less evenly matched and it could be anyone’s game on 23rd October.

Hornet’s NBA Performance in the Past

The Charlotte Hornets has been playing the NBA regular season since 1988. It changed its name to Charlotte Bobcats in 2004 and was known in this name until 2014. The Hornets started to us their original name from 2014. It is one of the most popular teams in the NBA circuit and is one of the leading teams in North Carolina. The Hornets have not had the chance to lift the NBA Championship title. It has had a decent run in most of the NBA seasons since its inception in 1988. Their best season was in 1997 when they recorded a win percentage of .659 and a record of 54–28. The team had a good record in 1998 as well with 51 wins and 31 losses and a WPCT of .622.

The Charlotte Hornet team’s major stake is now at the hands of former star player Michael Jordan. He was the star of the Chicago Bulls team. This will be a big booster for the players and the team management as a whole as they have the backing and support of a basketball giant.

A New Season without Kemba Walker

The biggest change that you will see in the Hornets lineup is their missing star player Kemba Walker. Walker came into the Hornets team in 2011 after his stint with the University of Connecticut. He played for the Hornets franchise since making the NBA debut in 2011. This year, he has moved on to Boston Celtics and will be their point guard. Walker was responsible for the Charlotte Hornets to take part in the NBA playoffs twice. The team’s overdependence on Walker was evident in recent years. Now, Walker has moved on to fill the vacant spot of Boston’s Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier has been drafted into the team in place of Walker. Rozier is aware that he has to step up and fill the big shoes of Walker for his new team. Rozier is not a regular starter in the NBA and has only done so 30 times in his career. He was always the second option for the Boston Celtics after Irving.

The Players to Feature for Hornets

Dwayne Bacon is a sure shot player in the Hornets lineup. He has impressed one and all with his basketball skills in the last few games. If you are a Charlotte Hornets fan and are interested in knowing the NBA betting odds, then betting on Bacon can bring in the riches. He can turn the game on its head and on his given day, he is devastating. Hornets will be looking for some miracles from him during the long season. There is depth in the Hornets’ roster and they have strong players in Miles Bridges, Nicolas Batum, Marvin Williams, and Cody Zeller. They also have a strong reserve with PL Washington, Malik Monk, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in the reserve list.

The Hornets have enough in their tank to record some wins in the 2019 NBA season, despite the fact that they are on a team rebuilding process. The top teams will look to reduce the burden on their top players when they play against low ranked teams like Hornets. This could turn advantage from the Hornets who can use their quality players to cause an upset or two over the top-ranked teams.

Bulls are Also Rebuilding

Like the Charlotte Hornets, the Chicago Bulls are also on a rebuilding process. They have been doing so for the past couple of NBA seasons and this is why they have been performing lower than their normal standards. The poor performance in the 2018 NBA season was attributed to the coaching changes and injuries to key players. The Bulls squad also has a lot of promising players, but none of them have been able to step up to the occasion and perform consistently.

Zach LaVine came into the Bulls team after Jimmy Butler’s trade-off in 2017. He has not been able to unleash his full potential and show what he is worthy of for the Chicago Bulls as he suffered injury in the first season. He has only played 24 games for the Bulls in the 1st season. He played 63 games last year and had an average of 23.7 points per game. The same is the case with the 2017 draft Lauri Markkanen. He was also not able to stay healthy, but when fit, he can be a destructive player.

Hornets vs. Bull Prediction

This is the first game for the 2019 NBA season for both teams. It is going to be a hard-fought one and will also have a close finish with not a lot of points separating the two teams. Considering the Bulls form of late and the fact that they are featuring in an away game, the odds of this fight is slightly tilted towards the Hornets favor. The Bulls are sure going to put out a tough fight and will come very close to what the Hornets score. In the end, the Hornets would be the winning team by less than 10 to 12 points. This prediction is taking into account the type of performance that Hornets show at home and their losing margin of the Bulls of 8.5 points on an average for their away games.

9 Deranged Murderers Who Will Leave You With Chills

0

Are you a crime enthusiast, tired of all the mainstream murder stories?  Or perhaps you’re really in the mood for a few interesting psychological facts on these deranged souls.

Murderers have existed for centuries, and quite often, they display some pretty crazy behavior.  While they’re certainly horrifying in real life, these creepy stories are fascinating fun to read about. Especially when we know they’re long gone and we’re safe to analyze their psychotic minds.

If you, like me, fancy a bit of grueling crime, you’re in luck! Here are a few lesser-known, but equally horrific serial killers you may be interested to learn about.

#1. Andre Chikatilo

Born in Ukraine, Andrei Chikatilo is one of Russia’s most notorious serial killers. Having worked as a school teacher in the USSR, he’s now known as the “Butcher of Rostov”, the “Red Ripper” and the “Rostov Ripper”.

These nicknames certainly precede his reputation. From 1978 to 1990, Chikatelo committed around 50 sexual assaults and murders. Although he confessed to 56 murders, he was only charged with 53. His victims were all young women and kids, the youngest being only nine years old.

Chikatelo would mutilate all of his victims by slashing them with a knife.  In fact, he stated that he could only achieve orgasm when he stabbed women, which served as the driving force behind his killings.

#2. Jane Toppan

Nurses are some of the friendliest and most helpful people you’ve ever come across, right? Well, Jane Toppan, AKA Jolly Jane, was the same – except for the fact that she had dark tendencies no medical professional should have.

This beloved nurse went on to kill around 31 people between 1980 and 1991, all because she got a thrill out of it. She would often secretly poison patients with opium as an experiment to witness the effects of the drug.

After the first death, she realized that this was actually quite satisfying to watch and went on to try other drugs like morphine and atropine.

None of the other doctors could figure out what was going on. In fact, Jane was so psychotic that she would often bring her patients close to death, only to nurse them back to health herself. This, of course, is what earned her such a good reputation. Sometimes, she would even get into bed with them and caress their faces while they were convulsing.

#3. Jeffrey Dahmer

Ever heard of Jeffrey Dahmer? This American serial killer was a serious alcoholic and committed his first murder of a hitchhiker at the mere age of 18.  Nine years later, he would go on a horrific killing spree that left the country in turmoil.

Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer killed, raped and dismembered around 17 young men. But that’s not all. Dahmer would even eat some of his victims, earning him the title of “the Milwaukee Cannibal”.

By the summer of 1991, Dahmer was killing one person every week.  During his trial, Dahmer even admitted that he would drill holes into the heads of his victims so that they would become “mindless sex slaves”.

So yes, you can add necrophilia to the list too! Before being executed for his crimes, Dahmer died in 1994 after being beaten up in prison.

#4. John Wayne Gacy

Clowns are already creepy, and John Watne Gacy definitely adds to the nightmare. With an unknown dark side, Gacy would perform at birthday parties and charity events for kids.  Over the course of six years, this neighborhood clown went onto rape and murder 33 young boys.

Gacy would lure his victims home, often with the promise of construction work, and then sexually assault and torture his victims before killing them. Almost all the victims were strangled or asphyxiated and later buried inside his own house.

Ironically, Gacy even went on to tell detectives that “clowns can get away with murder”. After a long period of investigation and surveillance, several trenches filled with his murder victim’s remains were found by the police in the crawl space under his house, leading to his arrest.

#5. Joachim Kroll

If you were wondering where the German representation in this list of deranged murderers is, here you go. Joachim Kroll confessed to a total of 13 murders between 1955 and 1976.

His victims included some very young children as well. He would strangle them with his own hands and sexually assault their corpses. And no, it didn’t stop there. He’d also cut them up and eat their remains!

Kroll’s last victim was four-year-old Marion Ketter, and she was the one that got him caught. When police were investigating her disappearance,  Kroll’s neighbor tipped them off. When he complained about stuck plumbing, Kroll had mentioned guts.

And to make you gag a little more – when Kroll was arrested, he was actually found cooking the hand of his latest victim in a pan of boiling water.

#6. Ed Gein

The American murderer Ed Gein had a difficult childhood with an alcoholic father and a verbally abusive mother whom he idolized.

Gein’s brother, who would often have arguments with his mother, died in a mysterious fire in 1944.  Gein himself reported this incident and actually led the police directly to his brother’s body.

Gein first came upon the police’s radar in 1957, when the owner of a hardware store with whom Gein was seen went missing. Her body was found by the police at his farm; she had been shot and decapitated.

Upon further investigation, police found out that Gein was robbing graves and collecting body parts from the corpses. He used these to make masks, clothes, and furniture for his home. The police also found the head of lady tavern operator who had disappeared in 1954.

And you want to know the creepiest part? Both these women resembled Gein’s mother!

#7. Richard Ramirez

Richard Ramirez was not your average burglar. For a whole year, he ruined the peace of Los Angeles’ neighborhoods with his horrific killing sprees.

Also known as the “Night Stalker” Ramirez was feared for the brutal manner in which he killed his victims.

Ramirez would break into his victim’s house and murder them using handguns, knives, machetes, and even hammers. Sometimes, he would sexually assault his victims.

The people who survived were almost always beaten very badly and, often, there were satanic symbols left at the crime scene.

He committed his first gruesome crime in 1984 when he raped and murdered a 79-year-old woman. He also killed a nine-year-old girl in the same year.

However, since traces of his DNA were found at the crime scene, he took a hiatus of eight months before starting again.

#8. Alexander Pichushkin

Alexander Pichushkin, also known as “the Chessboard Killer”, killed a total of 48 people between 2002 and 2006.

What has this got to do with chess, you might ask? Well, at his trial, Pichushkin explained his crazy theory behind the murders. He was basically intending on committing 64 murders, following the 64 squares on his chessboard. And, every time he killed someone, he would mark a square.

Pichuskin’s victims were often elderly destitute. He lured them by offering a drink at the park beside what he claimed was his dead dog’s grave. He would wait until his victim was thoroughly intoxicated and then hit them with a pipe or hammer.

Pichuskin would then throw these bodies in the sewer. But what makes it worse is that, often, his victims were still alive when they were thrown in and would ultimately die by drowning.

#9. K.D. Kempamma

Kempamma was the first convicted female serial killer in India. She killed a total of six women between 1999 and 2007, targeting vulnerable, pious women by misusing their trust.

Kempamma portrayed the persona of a very religious and knowledgeable woman. She would hang around at temples in Bangalore and make friends with female devotees. Once she’d built a relationship with these worshippers, she’d call them over to a different temple, asking them to come dressed and adorned in jewelry.

She would then perform a puja with their eyes closed. She would make them drink “holy water”, which was actually cyanide – thus earning her the name “Cyanide Mallika”. She was finally caught at a bus stop with one of her victim’s jewelry and confessed when being interrogated by the police.

Final Thoughts

Well, congratulations! You’ve reached the end of this chilling list. I don’t know what you’re going to do with this information now, but I do hope you’ve learned something new.

You might be feeling a bit nauseous yet intrigued – which is the ideal reaction after every crime story. And, of course, all these murders were absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting. But isn’t it weird to discover how these serial killers’ minds work?

You never know what’s hiding behind a seemingly innocent face. So, use your newfound knowledge to stay safe. And don’t forget to share all your new murder trivia with your friends!

NC Wins 2 National Awards for Innovation in State Government

0

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers recognized two North Carolina agencies with State IT Recognition Awards at its 2019 annual conference this week.

The N.C. Department of Technology partnered with the agencies to deliver the technology services.

The N.C. Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Management Division won in the Cross-Boundary Collaboration category for the State Emergency Response Application Implementation (SERA), a secure, web-based application designed to assist first responders, law enforcement and emergency managers efficiently respond to emergencies. SERA presents profile and process information and spatially displays school floor plans as well as key assets and vulnerabilities.

N.C. Emergency Management collaborated with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, NC DIT, the state’s 115 school districts and local law enforcement to create the application.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Public Health received the Government to Citizen Award for the introduction of the Bnft® application with the implementation of eWIC.

In addition to replacing paper vouchers with electronic benefits cards (eWIC), DHHS developed a website and smartphone app that allows eWIC participants to scan product codes while shopping to determine if they are eligible for purchase.

eWIC and the Bnft® app eliminates the need to keep track of paper vouchers and lists of approved items. Checkouts are also faster and more pleasant for eWIC participants and cashiers.

“One of our core commitments at NC DIT is to connect our residents to government services that are efficient, reliable and secure,” said Eric Boyette, state chief information officer and secretary for NC DIT. “Our partnerships with Emergency Management and Health and Human Services can do just that.”

NASCIO received more than 100 nominations across 10 award categories for the 2019 State IT Recognition Awards. North Carolina was a finalist in four categories.

The N.C. Health Information Exchange Authority, a division of NC DIT, was a finalist in the Government to Business category, and the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Marine Fisheries was a finalist in the Business Process Innovations category.

Salisbury Symphony Introduces Strings Classes To Nazareth Child & Family Connection Campus

0

The sound of music is filling the campus of Nazareth Child & Family Connection’s youth residential campus this fall and it’s a sound and skill the young people can carry with them for life.

The Salisbury Symphony debuted one of its After School Strings programs at Nazareth Child & Family Connection’s residential campus  in late September with a dozen youth, mostly high schoolers, taking two lessons a week through Dec. 11. Six will be playing cellos, five violins and one the viola.

The goal of the Salisbury Symphony is simple and straight forward.

“We want to educate young people in classical music, to teach them in string instruments, to teach them the importance of classical music, to consume music all their lives, maybe even to earn a living with music, but certainly to enjoy,” said Elizabeth Cook, education director for the symphony.

The symphony, which has several After School Strings programs in the area, was looking to add a site that reached students who were “very under-served” musically, according to Cook. They contacted Nazareth officials to inquire about possibly beginning a group there and the response was quick and enthusiastic.

“What an amazing opportunity this is for Nazareth and our residents. We have never had a program like this before,” said Vernon Walters Jr., Nazareth’s president and CEO. “Thanks to the Salisbury Symphony a dozen of our residents are going to add a skill and passion that will be with them the rest of their lives.”

The students are being instructed by Lynne Latham, a member of the Salisbury Symphony who is a professional celloist and composer.

Cook said the Nazareth classes are different from anything the Salisbury Symphony, which has been around for more than 50 years, has done in the past.

“For all the other students in our After-School Strings sites, there is a parent or two or a grandparent in the home supporting them,” said Cook, who was a choral instructor in Rowan County schools for 27 years. “The students at Nazareth, this is something they would not have had if we had not brought it to them.”

The classes, Cook said, are about more than teaching the youngsters how to play an instrument.

“They have to practice, they have to learn commitment, have to learn to work as a team. They have to be patient with other students that may not move as fast as them,” said Cook. “There are a lot of thought skills involved. And when you play music as a group, there is a lot of pride involved.”

The 12 new musicians have two 45-minute classes a week under Latham and will perform a small concert on campus at the end of the first semester during the holiday season.

“We are very excited to watch these young people learn and grow as musicians and see how these classes impact their lives,” said Walters. “Everybody on campus is excited about this program and we can’t wait to hear them play.”
