Oldest living dog dies

0

Earlier this week a toy fox terrier that recently set a world record as the oldest living dog finally passed away from natural causes just five months shy of her 23rd birthday.

Pebbles, who lived in Greenville County with her owners Bobby and Julie Gregory, achieved the feat on May 17th of the year, and celebrated in style with a bubble bath and a special meal.

She may have weighed just four pounds but she had a larger than life personality, and would spend all day sleeping and sunbathing by the pool, before coming alive at night.  She would wake around 5 pm for dinner – pizza and cat food were among her food preferences – and then be awake for the rest of the night.

She was also a big fan of country music, and counted Conway Twitty and Dwight Youkam among her favorite artists. She even had a tiny cowboy hat that she wore when the mood took her.

According to her owners the secret of her longevity was that she was treated like a member of the family, lived in a happy, positive environment, ate good clean food, and was given proper healthcare.

In the course of her lifetime, she had 32 puppies with her partner Rocky, who himself passed away six years ago.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Since the global pandemic, dog ownership rates have soared, and more and more people have welcomed four legged friends into their homes.

Many have found incredible joy from the experience as well, because a dog gives unconditional love, and will never judge their owners in any way. All they need is to be fed, walked, loved in return, and they make wonderful companions.

However, one of the downsides of dog ownership is that humans will normally outlive their adored pets (the odds against this happening are longer than usually found on platforms like bet365 mirror sites .

The average dog lives between 10 – 13 years, and some breeds like Boxers and Great Danes, have a much shorter life expectancy.

Some breeds like Chihuahuas, Poodles and Jack Russell’s do live longer, and it is no coincidence that smaller dogs have generally a longer lifespan, although Pebbles was very much an exception and not the rule.

Nevertheless, anybody thinking about owning a dog should go into it with their eyes open and realise that, at some time, they are going to lose them and, when that happens it can be an incredibly painful experience, and one that can haunt people for months, or even years.

Whilst Pebbles’ demise was hardly unexpected, the Gregory family will still have to come to terms with her loss.

Some cannot bear to own another dog again in their lives, whilst others will attempt to smother the pain by immediately getting another animal, trying to keep themselves busy because of the day to day activity of having to care for another living thing.

That, though, should not deter anybody from getting a dog because of the joy they bring with them whilst they are alive. And, even in death, Pebbles will continue to evoke many warm memories.

Companies that are paying their salaries in Bitcoin Already

0

With the recent surge in Bitcoin prices, more and more companies are beginning to explore the possibility of paying their employees in cryptocurrency. While there are some advantages to doing so, there are also some potential risks. In this article, we’ll take a look at both sides of the coin to help you decide if paying your employees in Bitcoin is right for your business.

GMO Group

GMO Group, a Japanese internet services company, is now paying salaries in Bitcoin to some of its employees. The company has been accepting Bitcoin as payment for services since February of this year. GMO plans to allow more employees to receive their salaries in Bitcoin in the future.

This is a big move for Bitcoin adoption, as GMO is a major player in the Japanese internet industry. The company provides a wide range of services, including internet banking, e-commerce, and advertising. GMO’s decision to start paying salaries in Bitcoin shows that the company is confident in the cryptocurrency’s long-term prospects.

This news is likely to have a positive impact on the price of Bitcoin. More and more companies are starting to accept Bitcoin as payment, which is helping to legitimize the currency. As adoption grows, we can expect to see even more companies start using Bitcoin for salaries and other payments.

IM

There are a handful of companies around the world that are now paying their employees in Bitcoin. This move is largely seen as a way to attract and retain top talent in the tech industry, where Bitcoin is seen as being on the cutting edge. While there are still some drawbacks to using Bitcoin as a salary (it can be volatile and is not yet widely accepted), it is an interesting option for forward-thinking companies.

SC5

Bitcoin has been in the news a lot lately in this current world. The cryptocurrency has seen a surge in value, making many people interested in investing in it. Some companies are even starting to pay their employees in Bitcoin.

Here are some of the companies that are already paying salaries in Bitcoin:

  1. Xapo: Xapo is a Bitcoin wallet service that also offers a debit card that can be used to spend Bitcoin anywhere that accepts Visa. They have recently started offering a payroll service that allows employers to pay their employees in Bitcoin.
  2. CoinBase: CoinBase is a popular Bitcoin exchange and wallet service. They offer a payroll service that allows employers to pay their employees in Bitcoin. Employees can choose to receive all or part of their salary in Bitcoin.
  3. BitPay: BitPay is a company that specializes in processing payments made with Bitcoin. They offer a payroll service that allows employers to pay their employees in Bitcoin. Employees can choose to receive all or part of their salary in Bitcoin.

Fairlay

Bitwage

Bitwage is one of the first companies to start paying salaries in Bitcoin. They offer a variety of services that allow employers to pay their employees in Bitcoin, as well as allow employees to receive their wages in Bitcoin. Bitwage also allows employees to have their wages automatically converted into fiat currency, so they can receive their paycheck in their local currency.

io

There are a few companies out there who are already paying their employees in Bitcoin. This is a big step forward for the cryptocurrency, as it shows that there is real-world use for it outside of just investing and speculation.

One of the biggest benefits of being paid in Bitcoin is that it’s much easier to send money internationally. With traditional fiat currencies, you have to deal with exchange rates and high fees from banks. But with Bitcoin, you can send money anywhere in the world almost instantly and for very low fees.

Another benefit is that you don’t have to worry about your employer running off with your hard-earned cash. With fiat currencies, there have been countless cases of employers shutting down suddenly and leaving employees without their wages. But with Bitcoin, you can get paid directly to your own personal wallet, which no one can access but you.

Conclusion

There are already a number of companies that are paying their employees in Bitcoin, and the list is only growing. For those who are interested in being paid in Bitcoin, these companies offer a great opportunity to get started. While the concept of being paid in cryptocurrency may be new to some, it is quickly becoming more mainstream. With the benefits that Bitcoin offers, such as security and anonymity, it is no wonder that more and more companies are turning to this option. For crypto trading check out www.bitlq.net.

Legends Of Horse Racing: Risen Star

0

There are very few horses in horse racing history that have made such an impact in a small amount of time as Risen Star. His successes, while there were few, were all impressive in their own right.

This thoroughbred stallion was born on March 25th, 1985, and went on to have an impressive career before his retirement in 1988.

His racing history is filled with victories, impressive feats, and a small amount of controversy. Being active for only 3 years, Risen Star wasn’t able to show the world his full potential but what he did show was impressive nonetheless.

Below we outline the successful albeit short career of Risen Star and how he is one of a few horses to get a race named after them.

Pedigree

The pedigree of a horse can both help and hinder them. As you may see with the horses participating in the 2022 breeders cup, having a good pedigree gives them good racing genes but also high expectations to live up to.

Risen Star arguably had some of the largest expectations being sired by the legendary Secretariat. Secretariat is considered one of the greatest racehorses of all time being a Triple Crown winner and inducted into the US Racing Hall of Fame in 1974.

Secretariat himself was sired from an impressive stallion, Bold Ruler. Bold Ruler was the 1957 Horse of the Year and is known as one of the best sires in horseracing.

Risen Star is known as Secretariat’s most successful child for his accomplishments on the track.

Racing Career

Throughout his career, Risen Star only raced 11 times, never placing below 3rd and winning 8 of his races. He earned just over $2 million through his victories ($1 million of which was achieved through winning the Chrysler Triple Crown Bonus).

His trainer and owner, Louie Roussell III, was a devout Roman Catholic and donated 10% of the winnings to a Roman Catholic order of nuns called the ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’.

After winning the Minstrel Stakes in 1977 he went on to participate in the Kentucky Derby. He ended up coming third in a historic race against Winning Colors who became the third filly to win the Kentucky Derby.

From his debut in the Kentucky Derby, Risen Star was under jockey Eddie Delahoussaye who was a skilled rider who would go on to win 6,384 races before retiring in 2003.

Major Victories

Risen Star won his first and only Preakness Stakes in 1988, beating out Winning Colors who came third in the race overall. This is one of only two times 3 generations of horses (Risen Star, Secretariat, and Bold Ruler) have won the Preakness Stakes.

This victory was considered controversial because Risen Star won the race while the leaders were busy dueling each other. Many saw this as him achieving an easy victory.

When it came time for the Belmont Stakes, it was the opportunity Risen Star needed to prove that he was worthy of the win at Preakness. However, his status about returning was up in the air as he has sustained a bruised leg before the race.

Risen Star did make it to the Belmont Stakes and the fear of his injury was quickly diminished when he was able to run a 33 ⅗ second drill run on the track.

In the end, Risen Star won by 14 ¾ lengths proving that he was a force to be reckoned with. This became the fourth fastest time at Belmont Stakes at 2:26 ⅖ with the fastest being Secretariat at 2:24.

In 1988, Risen Star was awarded the US Champion 3-Year-Old Colt. The Horse of the Year honors that year went to Alysheba.

Retirement And Risen Star Stakes

An injury during the Belmont caused Risen Star to have an unfortunate early retirement. If it wasn’t for that, many believed he would’ve gone down in history as one of the greats with further accomplishments.

Risen Star went on to sire Star Standard and Risen Raven. Star Standard would go on to become a Grade One winner.

Risen Star passed away on the 13th of March 1998. He is buried at Walmac International, the farm he retired to.

The Risen Star Stakes is a Kentucky Derby prep race that was initially called the Louisiana Derby Trial but was renamed in 1988. This was after Risen Star won the race and then went on to win the Preakness, Belmont, and the Eclipse Award.

By receiving the Eclipse Award, Risen Star became the first 3rd generation winner after his sire Secretariat won in 1973, and his grandsire Bold Ruler won in 1957.

Final Thoughts

Risen Star is known to be the pride of Lousiana, he left a memorable legacy for the short time he was on the track. He was seen as the people’s horse for battling against all adversity and helping people in need through charitable donations and visits.

When it comes to potential, Risen Star had it in mountains, his early retirement was a huge loss for the sport of horse racing but he will always be remembered as a fierce opponent.

You can usually find them in barley, corn, oats, and rice. It is advised to throw out the product as weevils can further affect your home and spread infestation.

  1. Throw Away The Infested Food

If there is contaminated food in your pantry, ensure to throw it away to stop from further infestation. It is advised that you keep no open packages in your kitchen as bugs can lay eggs in open packages, thus, inviting diseases.

  1. Go For Pest Control

If there is a high pest infestation in your pantry, ensure to go for pest control. As professional pest control companies will be involved in the process, you won’t have to face any trouble. However, it is recommended to thoroughly research all the pest providers in your area and choose the perfect one.

  1. Clean The Shelves

Clean all the shelves and corners of your home regularly. You can even take the help of a vacuum cleaner to clean the left bugs or cocoons, along with grains or spilled crumbs.

Conclusion

Pantry pest infestations can lead to different diseases and more, so make a point to follow the above points to get rid of them completely. Also, one thing that you should always do is not to store open food packets in the kitchen. Take proper precautions so that you can decrease the pest infestation in no time.

NC Governor Declares State of Emergency As Hurricane Ian Heads Toward Carolinas

0

Category 4 Hurricane Ian just made landfall on the western coast of Florida as one of the largest storms to ever hit the state.

The National Hurricane Center is now predicting the storm to decrease in strength as it moves across Florida, then increase in strength over the Atlantic before swinging back into South Carolina on it’s way toward Charlotte as a Tropical Storm.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center just sent out the following alert for Saturday:

On D4/Saturday, Ian is forecast to weaken into a post-tropical low
as it moves into the southern Appalachian region (see NHC advisories
and forecasts for more information regarding Ian). Low/midlevel flow
to the east of Ian's decaying circulation may remain sufficiently
strong to support isolated damaging wind gusts and/or a brief
tornado from eastern NC into the Tidewater region.

In response to the forecasts and Ian’s historic size, Governor Cooper has just issued an official State of Emergency for North Carolina.

NWS officials are reminding all residents in Atlantic Coast states to be prepared.

In case of a power outage, make sure to have the following emergency items stocked in your home;

Update – Hurricane Ian Heading For The Carolinas

0

UPDATE 9/28/2022 9:40am:

Hurricane Ian is now a Category 4 storm, with wind speeds just a few MPH under Category 5 levels. It’s about to make landfall between Port Charlotte and Cape Coral, FL within the next 2 hours.

Ian will dramatically weaken directly after landfall and will plow through the center of Florida, likely traveling through Orlando and Daytona Beach before heading back out to the Atlantic Ocean. The storm is then expected to curve back toward the South Carolina coast as a tropical storm, then head directly toward Charlotte after making its second landfall.

The bottom half of Charlotte is now under ‘slight’ risk of flash flooding through this weekend.

According to the National Hurricane Center, tropical-storm-force winds are expected to reach Charlotte on Friday morning:

Original Article 9/26/2022:

After a relatively quiet 2022 hurricane season, the Carolinas now face our first major storm of the year.

Most projected tracks now take Hurricane Ian directly over the Carolinas after making landfall on Florida’s coast.

While the storm is expected to drastically decrease in strength right before making landfall, it will still bring us damaging winds that could knock out power for many across our region.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Charlotte should start to see her first tropical-storm-force winds this coming Thursday evening.

NWS officials are reminding all residents in Atlantic Coast states to be prepared.

In case of a power outage, make sure to have the following emergency items stocked in your home;
