New Bank Tower Is About To Change Charlotte’s Skyline

0

A new flagship banking tower is coming to Uptown Charlotte, forever changing our skyline, and pushing our CBD (central business district) even further west.

F.N.B. Corporation (NYSE: FNB), the parent company of First National Bank, just sent out a press release to announce the new tower. The 31-story mixed-use tower will be developed by Dominion Realty Partners (DRP), and will be located at 401 South Graham Street, between the BB&T Ballpark and the Bank of America Stadium.

FNB Tower-Charlotte will become the new regional headquarters of First National Bank. The high-rise will feature over 160,000 square feet of Class A office space, 215 Luxury Class A residential apartment units, and street-level retail space anchored by the new flagship FNB branch.

When complete, FNB will occupy roughly 30,000 square feet of office space with additional options to expand to accommodate future growth.

“FNB’s continued growth puts us in an exciting position to participate in projects that contribute to economic expansion in the markets we serve,” said Vincent J. Delie, Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of F.N.B. Corporation and First National Bank. “FNB Tower-Charlotte will provide our local teams with a centralized base to collaborate, share experiences and engage with the community, which enables us to even better serve our clients and the neighborhoods we call home.”

Delie added, “We are thankful that the cities of Charlotte and Raleigh are willing to work with developers to produce new projects that allow companies like FNB to continue to grow in our southeastern markets.”

DRP Chairman and CEO Andy Andrews commented, “We look forward to delivering Charlotte’s newest tower in this extremely visible and marquee location.” FNB Tower-Charlotte will be DRP’s third recent large-scale project in the Charlotte market, and its second downtown high-rise tower development with FNB as the anchor tenant. “This location is surrounded by all of the growth and activity of Uptown Charlotte, and we look forward to enhancing the Charlotte skyline with this efficient and innovative high-rise development,” stated Beau McIntosh, DRP Managing Director.

FNB Tower-Charlotte is expected to be completed sometime in late 2020.

Supporting Local Women’s Shelters – Movers for Moms

0

Though Mother’s Day is intended to be a joyous occasion for women across the country, thousands of moms will be overlooked on this special holiday because they are forced to live in shelters as a result of domestic abuse or homelessness.

To ensure moms in crisis receive the love and appreciation they deserve this Mother’s Day, Two Men and A Truck Charlotte, Gaston County and Rock Hill are hosting its Movers for Moms® collection drive. Essential items, such as toiletries and baby items, are being collected by volunteer businesses in the community and will be moved to local women’s shelters such as Safe Alliance in Charlotte, Catherine’s House in Belmont, and Safe Passage in Rock Hill.

“Safe Alliance has an ongoing need for hygiene and household products. We serve victims and families who often have to leave everything behind to seek safe haven at the Domestic Violence Shelter. These local families greatly depend on individuals and organizations in our community to donate these items. I am thrilled to be partnered with Two Men and A Truck and their “Movers for Moms®” initiative! The collection drive they are hosting on our behalf will allow us to provide those essential items that our clients need most so they can comfortably start their journey of healing from the trauma they’ve endured.” – Safe Alliance Volunteer Manager, Tenille Banner

Two Men and A Truck in Charlotte, Gaston County and Rock Hill welcome local businesses, schools and organizations to join in the effort of bringing relief and comfort to moms in need. 10 Worst Charlotte Restaurant Health Scores in February

0

Even though Charlotte’s restaurant selection continues to grow, so does our population, and some restaurants are taking advantage of this growing customer base by letting their health standards slide.

Some of the most common reasons for low scores were food handlers not washing their hands properly, contaminated food containers, and improper food temperatures (many restaurants are starting to use infrared thermometers to avoid this). Financial Service Provider TIAA, with its largest employment hub here in Charlotte, is commemorating their 100th anniversary by giving away $1 million dollars in grants to 100 individuals in the nonprofit world.

TIAA was first launched on March 5th, 1918 with a $1 million grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to help give financial security to educators through retirement investment accounts.

Today, TIAA honors their beginning by launching the new TIAA Difference Maker 100 program. Those recognized will each receive $10,000 for the nonprofit where they are working to create a better world.

To be considered for the program, individuals are invited to submit their own story or recommend a Difference Maker at TIAAdifferencemaker100.org. Submissions will be reviewed based on a variety of criteria including impact, creativity, perseverance and motive, and will be featured in a gallery on the TIAA Difference Maker program hub. The 100 Difference Makers selected will be announced in October 2018.

“For 100 years, TIAA has been a pioneer in working to protect and advance educators and nonprofit professionals’ financial well-being,” said Roger W. Ferguson, Jr. president and CEO of TIAA. “As a mission-driven company, we have a strong commitment to helping these dedicated individuals achieve their financial goals and build financial security so they can focus on the people and communities they serve. The TIAA Difference Maker 100 is about celebrating these extraordinary people who, like TIAA, are inspired to make a positive contribution to the world.”

New York-based TIAA first opened their Charlotte campus in 2001, which now has over 3,000 employees, making it the organization’s official employee hub, and their largest regional headquarters.

New Petition Asking President Trump To Honor Billy Graham With National Holiday

0

There is now an online petition calling Dr. Billy Graham to be honored with an annual national holiday.

The Change.org petition, started last week by Boone resident Kyle Siler, now has over 63,000 signatures. It’s specifically addressed to President Donald Trump, and North Carolina Sens. Thom Tillis, Richard Burr and Jerry Tillman, and reads;

“Lets get a National Holiday for Billy Graham!! Mr. Graham preached the Gospel to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history—nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories—through various meetings, including Mission World and Global Mission. Hundreds of millions more have been reached through television, video, film, and webcasts. Mr. Graham’s counsel was sought by presidents, and his appeal in both the secular and religious arenas is evidenced by the wide range of groups that have honored him, including numerous honorary doctorates from many institutions in the U.S. and abroad.”

It’s already almost doubled its original goal of 35,000 and could surpass over 100,000 signatures by the end of today.

Charlotte’s Mayor Vi Lyles already declared March 2, 2018 as “Billy Graham Day” during last week’s city council meeting.

Before he went on to preach the gospel to over 200 million people and council every US president for the past 60 years, Billy Graham was born and raised on a small dairy farm next to what is now the Park Rd. Shopping Center in Charlotte.

His childhood home was taken down piece-by-piece and reconstructed on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library, where his body was laid to rest this past Friday next to the body of his wife Ruth.

Saints Sign Kurt Coleman, Bills Eyeing Jonathan Stewart After Panthers Cut Veterans

0

Over the past week, the Panthers cleared up nearly $10 million in salary cap after cutting 3 of our most beloved veteran players.

The team cut defensive end Charles Johnson, safety Kurt Coleman, and legendary running back Jonathan Stewart.

The cutting of Jonathan Stewart is an especially hard blow to Panther fans, as he not only had one of the best personalities on the team, he also holds one of the highest number of records in franchise history, including;

  • Rush attempts: career (1,501), playoffs (90), rookie season (184)
  • Rush yards: career (7,318), playoffs (423), rookie season (836)
  • Yards per carry: playoff season (5.22 in 2014), rookie game (8.67, 2008-11-16 DET)
  • Rushing touchdowns: playoffs (5), playoff season (3 in 2015), playoff game (2, 2016-01-17 SEA)
  • Total touchdowns, playoff game (2; with 3 others)
  • All-purpose yards, rookie season (1,232)
  • 100+ rushing yard games, playoffs (2)

Yesterday Stewart tweeted his thanks to our amazing city and team;

According to ESPN, Kurt Coleman reached a 3-year contract with the New Orlean Saints earlier this morning, which might really hurt us in future divisional games.

According to SB Nation, Buffalo appears to be looking to add a complementary back for LeSean McCoy in the form of a hard-running bruiser – Jonathan Stewart could be that perfect fit with his impressive 3rd down and goal line stats.

What are your thoughts on the release of Johnson, Coleman, and Stewart?

50 MPH Winds and 4′ High Waves Sank Excavator Barge On Lake Norman (Video)

0

Yesterday morning a massive excavator barge sank to the bottom of Lake Norman after extreme wind gusts stirred up 4’+ waves.

The Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue captured a video of the incident after responding to attempt to rescue the barge.

According to their Facebook post, “The crews responded for a tug and barge taking on water. Ultimately the barge and excavator on it sunk. The operators were safe and able to cut the tug free in time. Waves on the lake were reaching 4 feet in spots today, something that only happens once or twice a year. This was due to the 30 mph sustained winds gusting to almost 50 mph.”

The average wind speed on Lake Norman is 2.3 MPH.

According to WindFinder.com, the highest gusts and sustained winds occurred between 10:15am – 11:00am yesterday morning, roughly the time the barge began taking on water;

York County Opened Their First ‘Cat-Themed’ Winery

0

cats paw winerySouth Carolina’s newest winery (and York Counties first and only) recently opened up on the outskirts of Rock Hill.

John Burks was inspired by his cat Joey to launch Cat’s Paw Winery where he makes each bottle in a true small batch craftsman style.

The winery features a wide selection of both red and white wine, along with an extensive tasting room and retails shop.

Burks trucks his hand-selected juices from several suppliers in the Carolinas. He flavors the wine using aged barrels and various types of oak. He doesn’t use any preservatives, so his wines have a limited shelf life and a truly unique taste.

Since January, Burks has already bottled over 100 gallons of wine.

You can find out more about visiting hours, public tours, and how to buy his wine on his website CatsPawWinery.com
