New Petition Asking President Trump To Honor Billy Graham With National Holiday

There is now an online petition calling Dr. Billy Graham to be honored with an annual national holiday.

The Change.org petition, started last week by Boone resident Kyle Siler, now has over 63,000 signatures. It’s specifically addressed to President Donald Trump, and North Carolina Sens. Thom Tillis, Richard Burr and Jerry Tillman, and reads;

“Lets get a National Holiday for Billy Graham!! Mr. Graham preached the Gospel to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history—nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories—through various meetings, including Mission World and Global Mission. Hundreds of millions more have been reached through television, video, film, and webcasts. Mr. Graham’s counsel was sought by presidents, and his appeal in both the secular and religious arenas is evidenced by the wide range of groups that have honored him, including numerous honorary doctorates from many institutions in the U.S. and abroad.”

It’s already almost doubled its original goal of 35,000 and could surpass over 100,000 signatures by the end of today.

Charlotte’s Mayor Vi Lyles already declared March 2, 2018 as “Billy Graham Day” during last week’s city council meeting.

Before he went on to preach the gospel to over 200 million people and council every US president for the past 60 years, Billy Graham was born and raised on a small dairy farm next to what is now the Park Rd. Shopping Center in Charlotte.

His childhood home was taken down piece-by-piece and reconstructed on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library, where his body was laid to rest this past Friday next to the body of his wife Ruth.
