Massive Land Slide Shuts Down NC’s I-40 For At Least A Week

NCDOT crews have just shut down one of the only routes through the Western North Carolina mountains.

At about 7:30pm last night, the equivilant of two dump truck loads of rocks slid down the mountain slope onto the highway, according to a press release.

“There’s no way to safely open I-40 tonight,” said Division 14 Maintenance Engineer Wesley Grindstaff. “A series of wheel-barrow sized rocks have come down. While our crew were clearing those out of the way, other rocks started coming down too.”

Interstate 40 between Asheville and Knoxville is closed at exit 276, mile marker 20 headed toward Knoxville, and at the Harmon Den exit, mile marker 7 heading toward Asheville;

NCDOT also uploaded a video of the moving landslide to their YouTube channel;

A GeoTech team has now been dispatched to assess the damage and what it will take to restabalize the road and nearby rockface.

Officials at NCDOT said they expect I-40 to be shut down for at least a week while repairs are made.

Charlotte continues to garner media attention and accolades as one of the top emerging culinary destinations in the U.S. After positive feedback last year, the city will return to the Charleston Wine + Food Festival with a diverse group of culinary innovators to give Charleston— a city known for its cuisine— a taste of Charlotte’s ever-evolving culinary landscape.

“Charlotte’s culinary community is incredibly diverse and dynamic,” says Laura White, CRVA Director of Communications. “We have established ourselves as a city of culinary opportunity while continuing to grow in ways that garner regional and national attention. We are excited about opportunities like the Charleston Wine + Food Festival because it gives us a platform to showcase our culinary talent and inspire residents of important drive markets like Charleston to take a trip to Charlotte to experience it firsthand.”

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority will host the following events to showcase the Charlotte talent that will be represented at the festival:

Rogue Helicopter Pilot Still On The Loose In Charlotte

I recently discovered what might now be the most infamous conspiracies in Charlotte’s history (it might even be bigger than the government spying on Charlotte citizens with fake cell phone towers conspiracy).

The conspiracy surrounds George Shinn, the former owner of the Charlotte Hornets, and his alleged attempt to assassinate David Thompson using a rogue helicopter pilot.  Thompson alleged that the attempt came after he uncovered a plot by Shinn to deprive the Smith Junior High School arena of ice to stop the expansion of the NBA, NFL, and NHL.

David Thompson presented his case before the Charlotte City Council on January 2nd, 2002, noting that he wasn’t the only person who knew about the plot, “Sue Myrick knows about this, the FBI knows about this, John Edwards knows about this, the Criminal Intelligence Division of the Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department knows about this…”

His testimony has since gone viral with millions of views across Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter;

“I stood up here last time. I’m gonna ask if when I get in to this you can give me an extra minute or thirty seconds, and once I get into this . . . I’m here tonight to request John Walsh of the FBI’s most wanted to make public and request a number one—America’s number one public enemy. We have a rogue helicopter pilot on the loose inside this airspace. He’s also on the loose inside this country. And I am after this report right here which is a classified document from the Freedom of Information Act within the FAA. When I came down here to speak back in April about the bundling, I went home. I said something, because I had—I could back it up, because I went to the Smith Junior High meeting years ago and I reminded you of four things I said, which were no smoking, thirty thousand seats, sew the hot water panels on it, and put ice in the arena. And I told you why there’s no ice in the arena. I made a statement, and the statement was the reason there’s no ice in the arena is because somebody had their hand in the pie. He didn’t want ice in that arena because he knew down the road, just like the NBA adventure, the NFL and the NHL were going to expand. And if he allowed ice to be put in the arena that meant sometime down the road he’d have a competing tenant, which would lessen his bargaining power with the city of Charlotte. I’ve been ready to explode like Mt. St. Helens since the weekend of May 27 and 28, and what happened to me was the evening of the 28 I woke up in my house. It was late in the evening—early morning, A.M. And my house was shakin’, and it’s shakin’! and it’s just shakin’! and it’s shaking!—it shakes for over a minute to two minutes. It shook constantly. And it was the same white helicopter that I saw on Sunday afternoon that flew over my house when I walked from my part of the house to my garage.

I won’t raise my voice. That’s fine, they have a right to be scared, because that’s why I’m here tonight. I was scared, I was endangered, and I was threatened. My life was in danger because we have a helicopter pilot that flew twenty-five to thirty feet above my roofline between the magnolia tree and the property line for one to two minutes, and then he bailed out. And I followed him, and I tracked him down through the FAA because I made an official report. Sue Myrick knows about this, the FBI knows about this, John Edwards knows about this, the Criminal Intelligence Division of the Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department knows about this. I want this pilot. I want—it’s a matter of national security. Wherever you are, Mr. Helicopter Pilot, come out of your hole. And you too George Shin because you’re in that helicopter pilot—you’re in that helicopter, and you’re nothing but a chameleon, lemon-headed, coward, terrorist ****! And I’m coming after you buddy! You’re gonna pay for it! Goodnight!”

Superior Court Judge Voids NC Constitutional Amendments, Including Voter ID Amendment

A North Carolina Superior Court judge has just struck down 2 of the NC constitution amendments that were approved by voters this past November.

Judge G. Bryan Collins essentially voided the new ‘voter ID’ and the ‘state income tax rate cap’ amendment, ruling that “an illegally constituted General Assembly does not represent the people of North Carolina and is therefore not empowered to pass legislation that would amend the state’s constitution.”

In today’s official ruling, the judge detailed 11 conclusions of law largely surrounding the 2017 ruling by the US Supreme Court that the NC General Assembly was an “illegally gerrymandered body”, and thus “the General Assembly lost its claim to popular sovereignty.”

3. Defendants’ Motion to Dismiss as to CAC for lack of standing is allowed.
4. N.C. Session Laws 2018-119 and 2018-128 are void ab initio.
5. The amendments to the N.C. Constitution effectuated by N.C. Session Laws 2018-117 and 2018-128 are hereby void.

The other 2 amendments approved this past November were not part of the ruling.

Charlotte Now Ranked #2 Best City In America For Dating

The website ApartmentList.com recently surveyed 9,000 of their single renters in the top 66 largest metro areas in the country, asking them how satisfied they were with the dating scenes in their city.

North Carolina saw the best results, with Charlotte ranking #2 in the nation overall and Durham coming in at #8.

Charlotte was also ranked the #1 in the country by men and #4 by women according to the survey;

Best Cities for Dating – Male vs. Female

Charlotte also toped the survey among millenials.

According to the new report, “millennials are loving the dating scene in Charlotte… way more than the general population. Charlotte’s satisfaction share saw a huge increase when segmenting out this age group, with satisfaction share increasing by over 12%. While the general population is 37.7% satisfied with dating in Charlotte, millennials are 49.1% satisfied.”

CLT Airport Breaks All-Time Flight Record in 2018 – Now 7th Busiest Airport In The World

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport has now ended their busiest year in history. Last year, CLT saw a total of 46.4 million passengers walk through their gates, which is almost half a million more than in 2017. Last year’s totals also amount to a 34% increase in passengers from just 10 years ago, according to a press release by the airport.

“We would like to thank the millions of passengers who chose CLT as their first choice for air travel,” commented Aviation Director/CEO Brent Cagle. “Expansion of the hub, Charlotte region and the Airport’s strong customer demand have placed us on a path of continued growth for the foreseeable future that we welcome.”

Our airport also saw 550,013 total landings and departures, a .4% increase over 2017, and a total of 178,805 tons of goods transported, a 2% increase over 2017.

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport now ranks as the 7th busiest airport in the world.

These numbers are expected to significantly increase in 2019 with the expansion of low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, which will add 17 new direct destinations out of the Queen City.

As an economic engine of the Carolinas, CLT contributes $23 billion in annual economic output to the Charlotte region, including $1.1 billion in state/local taxes, 132,330 jobs for local residents and $5.7 billion in personal income.
