Charlotte area Police are now warning residents about a Tega Cay bear spotted by several local residents over the weekend.

Tega Cay Police received three calls on Saturday from the Point Clear Drive and Kailua Circle area. Officers quickly responded, advising residents to keep a safe distance and secure trash and food sources to avoid attracting the bear.

Numerous locals shared videos and pictures on Facebook of the Tega Cay bear, causing both excitement and concern.

Just a few weeks ago, another bear was spotted in Mooresville, just north of Charlotte.

Police are collaborating with the State Department of Natural Resources regarding the increase in local bear sightings.

NC sports betting revenue fell to $63.1 million in May, a 40.1% drop from April’s $105.3 million. Bettors wagered over $525 million in May, the lowest since the March 11 launch.

May revenue was also 5.1% lower than March’s $66.5 million, according to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.

Since the March launch, operators have amassed $234 million in revenue and will pay over $42 million in taxes at an 18% tax rate.

NC sports betting operators paid out $458.7 million in winnings in May, with a hold percentage of 12.3%.

In addition to revenues, promotions also dropped significantly from $202.6 million in March to $30.9 million in May.

Charlotte Checkers owner Michael Kahn just broke the record for the most expensive private home ever sold in Mecklenburg County.

The Mediterranean-style Providence Road estate sold for $8.4 million, 6.3% higher than the asking price of $7.89 million. The property last sold for $1.95 million in March of 2013.

The property in the Greenwood subdivision features a 12,718 square foot main home with a saltwater pool, sports court, and six-car garage sitting on a 5.41 acre gated property.

Liza Caminiti with Christie’s International Real Estate listed the property. Lena Horrigan and Nilou Henderson with Henderson Ventures represented the buyers, who purchased through an LLC named Overasking.

The sale surpasses recent Mecklenburg County home sales records, including a $7.67 million Lake Norman home and before that, a $7.6 million Quail Hollow estate.

Charlotte-based Nucor Steel just announced a $565 million expansion with the acquisition of Rytec Corp., a leading Wisconsin door manufacturer. Nucor’s purchase includes two manufacturing facilities and over 300 employees.

This acquisition aligns with Nucor’s strategy to expand beyond steel into related businesses.

“Rytec is a leader in high-performance commercial doors and serves several growing end-user markets. This acquisition further executes our strategy to expand beyond our core steelmaking businesses into related downstream businesses. Adding high-performance doors will create cross-selling opportunities with other Nucor businesses and greatly expand Nucor’s product portfolio serving the commercial arena,” said Nucor CEO Leon Topalian in a press release. “Rytec has a strong cultural fit with Nucor, and we are excited to welcome the Rytec teammates to the Nucor family.”

Two years ago, Nucor bought C.H.I. Overhead Doors for $3 billion. Combining Rytec with C.H.I. will offer more product options for Nucor’s commercial customers, said Chad Utermark, Nucor’s executive vice president of new markets and innovation.
