South Carolina Just Introduced A New Bill That Mimics North Carolina’s HB2 ‘Bathroom Bill’

Nikki Haley SCSouth Carolina just introduced a bill this past week that bans people from using public bathrooms, showers or changing rooms that do not correspond to their physical sex. The new law does allow for transgender people who have transitioned to the opposite sex to freely use the bathroom of their new sex.

Sen. Lee Bright, who initially introduced the bill, said it mimics the North Carolina law passed last month.

“It’s a public-safety issue,” Bright said, stating the concerns of male predators entering women’s restrooms.

A man in Seattle recently undressed in a women’s locker room, citing Seattle’s new law that allowed men to use women’s facilities based on their current gender identity.

The Toronoto Sun also reported that a man claiming to be transgender was arrested for sexually assaulting women in two local women’s shower facilities.

Several states have passed similar laws in recent weeks. Mississippi’s governor Tuesday signed into law a bill that allows businesses to avoid creatively participating in services that violate their moral, ethical, or religious beliefs (any business can now deny creative services for gay marriages, Christian concerts, pro-gun rallies, etc.). Several sections of Texas also have similar laws to what was just passed in North Carolina.

What do you think of South Carolina’s new law?

The City of Gastonia Is Building A Massive New Subdivision

A rare pocket of undeveloped land in Gastonia is now planned to become Gastonia’s newest subdivision.

The entire community will end up being over 22 acres, comprised of single family homes from between 2,000-4,000 square feet each, selling for an average price range of $300,000.

The land sits directly across from New Hope Elementary School and just south of the Cramer Woods community.

The community will be LiveWell Home’s first subdivision in Gaston County.

If the plans are approved by the county, Livewell is hoping to begin construction in six to eight months from now, with spec and inventory homes to be built immediately after that.

Local Developer Lincoln Harris Just Finalized Their Purchase Of The Charlotte Observer Building

0

Charlotte Observer buildingLincoln Harris, a Charlotte-based real estate development firm, just finalized their deal on the first section of the Charlotte Observer headquarters building for $11 million this past Friday. The deal included 5 acres of the site from the Panther’s stadium to South Church Street. The remaining 9.4-acres of the Observer site is set to close by May 2.

Once the purchase is complete, it will officially be the largest developable tract in Uptown Charlotte. They still haven’t released plans yet as to what will be built on the site.

The Observer announced in January that they were moving out of their original 360,000 sqft building, a space they’ve occupied for 44 years, to move into 3 floors of the NASCAR building (a little under 70,000 square feet).

Villanova Upsets North Carolina For Their First National Title In 30 Years

Last night we saw the second major upset for North Carolina after the Panthers suffered a surprising defeat to the Broncos. For the national title of college basketball, Villanova upset UNC with a final score of 77-74 – a game that will undoubtedly go down in history.

The UNC Tar Heels took control in the first half, coming as somewhat of a surprise, considering they were 0-12 to start their national semifinal game against Syracuse on Saturday. They owned the glass in the first half, with 10 defensive rebounds and five offensive boards.

unc villanova championship game

North Carolina was 26-4 with leading at halftime this season, while Villanova was 1-4 when trailing. This was the first time the Wildcats have been behind at the break during the NCAA Tournament.

North Carolina and Villanova had a total of eight lead changes, along with six ties, in the first half. In the end, Villanova was up by three and UNC just wasn’t able to make that come-back drive.

Although Villanova won the championship, North Carolina made its 10th NCAA title game appearance, with coach Roy Williams making his fifth appearance after going 2-2 across 28 seasons at North Carolina and Kansas.

A second-place finish in both the NFL and the NCAA proves that North Carolina is truly one of the best states in the nation!

Windstream Just Announced Its Ultra-Fast Fiber Internet Service Is Coming To Concord

0

Last year Google Fiber announced that it was launching ultra-fast internet in Charlotte, and now Windstream is following suit, but this time in Concord, and several other towns around Charlotte, including Harrisburg, Kannapolis, China Grove, and Davidson.

It will be the first company in Concord to offer speeds of anything even close to one gigabit per second. This means that for anyone who wants to sign up, no more video buffering problems, slow upload and download speeds, or lag times on the internet.

Windstream is claiming that you will be able to download 25 songs in less than a second, a TV show in less three seconds or an entire high definition movie in little more than half a minute.

Windstream’s announcement comes as competition for ultra-high-speed internet is heating up around the Charlotte region from both Google and AT&T.
