The Charlotte Hornets Are Starting A Minor League Team in Greensboro

charlotte hornets minor league team in greensboroThe Charlotte Hornets have just officially announced that they will be starting a brand new basketball team in Greensboro. This news comes about a year after the team originally announced that they will be starting a new D-League team. Seven cities were originally considered, with Asheville, Greenville and Fayetteville ending up as finalists.

This decision to finally place the D-League franchise is another major step towards Charlotte joining the modern NBA. The majority of the NBA has also been heading in this direction, and it’s very likely that every franchise will have their own affiliate within the next five to ten years.

It will give the Hornets much more flexibility when it comes to developing players. They can also attract more undrafted rookies, or former second round picks that didn’t make teams, and give them an opportunity to develop with them.

This 95-Year-Old Panther Fan’s Dab On ‘Em Dance Video Went Viral

mary ward 95 year old dab on emMary Ward is considered by many to be the ultimate Panthers Fan. She turned 96 over the summer and has now watched every single game the Panthers have ever played since the team first took the field in 1995.

After her son uploaded the now famous picture of her dab on ’em pose, ESPN put it next to a picture of Cam doing the dab and it quickly went viral.

Charlotte Stories filmed a video of her toward the end of last season (when the Panthers were 12-0) – it’s now been viewed over 73,000 times:

Mary is fairly confident that the Panthers are going to win the Super Bowl, saying that she loves how they “pick the ball up on this end and bring it to that end.”

Her fun-loving attitude and unwavering dedication to the Panthers is now inspiring other Panther fans around the world to dab on ’em, and is undoubtedly attracting others to fall in love with the best team in the NFL.

The shirt she wore in the video above was created by a couple Panther fans and is now sweeping the Carolinas as the “dab on ’em” trend continues to spread. You can now find the shirt on the End Zone Fans Etsy page by clicking here.

Charlotte’s Biggest Marathon Will Close Numerous Roads Today

Charlotte’s biggest marathon, formerly known as the Thunder Road Marathon, kicks off tomorrow morning at 7:30 am at Romare Bearden Park.

The runners will head down South Graham Street and follow a course through the Dilworth, Myers Park, South End, Third Ward, Belmont, NoDa, Plaza-Midwood, Chantilly, Elizabeth and Second Ward neighborhoods.

Here is the course map for the marathon (you can expect traffic delays and road closures along the entire route today):

Local ‘Graffiti Park’ Has Just Been Approved For Expansion

If you feel the urge to spray paint a wall, you may be in luck. The town of Salisbury (about 30 min. North East of Charlotte) has just approved a new expansion of their community ‘graffiti park’

The park has been around for several years now, but up until this point, it has only consisted of two small walls at 329 S. Main Street:

Salisbury’s Historic Preservation Commission just approved plans to add 9 more walls to the site. Each new wall will measure be 4-feet by 8-feet and will be linked by a common walkway.

The graffiti park currently has restrictions against hate speech, pornography, profanity, and drug or gang related references.

If you don’t want to drive all the way up to Salisbury to let your inner graffiti artist out, you’re out of luck – all grafiti is currently outlawed in Charlotte, and anyone caught doing it can face up to $250 for a first offense and $500 for any additional offenses.

Manhunt Underway For Man Who Shot 5-Year-Old Girl Near Uptown Charlotte

Police are now on the hunt for a man suspected of shooting a 5 year old girl in Charlotte, NC this past week.

CMPD has stated that on Thursday night, Patrick Glenn fired shots that hit 5 year old Nadia Gayle who was rushed to the hospital, as of Friday morning, the girl was considered to be in stable condition.

Officers now think that one of the men in the child’s car knew Glenn and an issue was sparked between them, which led to the shooting.

There is now an ongoing manhunt in Charlotte for Patrick Glenn. He is considered armed and very dangerous.

The KKK Has Just Announced A ‘Victory Klan Parade’ in North Carolina for Donald Trump

What might be the largest Ku Klux Klan groups in America has just announced on their website that they will be organizing a parade in North Carolina to celebrate President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.

Donald Trump and his campaign have rebuked the group in the past. When the KKK’s newspaper ‘The Crusader’ publicly endorsed his candidacy, the Trump campaign was quick to issue this statement: “Mr. Trump and the campaign denounces hate in any form. This publication is repulsive and their views do not represent the tens of millions of Americans who are uniting behind our campaign.”

According to the Loyal White Knights of The Ku Klux Klan, the parade will be held on Dec. 3, but they have not yet released the time or exact location.

“TRUMP = TRUMP’S RACE UNITED MY PEOPLE,” the website’s front page states in bold letters, underneath the parade announcement:

The group is now thought to have between 150 and 200 members and according to the Anti-Defamation League, it’s “perhaps the most active Klan group in the United States today.” Last year, they helped to organize the South Carolina protest against the removal of the Confederate flag’s removal from the state capitol building.

Lake Norman Area Duo Won $54,000 For Catching Bass Weighing 24.59lb

The 2016 Carolina Bass Challenge Classic is now officially wrapped up and local residents Adam Waters and Dylan Fulk are now $54,000 richer. What many consider to be the world series of team bass tournaments took place at Lake Norman’s Blythe Landing this year.

220 groups with a total of 400 fishermen competed for over $105,000 in cash and prizes this year and two locals ended up winning it. Waters, from Denver, N.C., and Fulk, from Concord, NC finished their 2 day run with a total of 10 fish weighing in at 25.49 pounds.

The 1st Place prize was $50,000.00, and their unique Skeeter powered by a Yamaha earned them an additional $4,000.00 in prize money.

Prize money was given out to a total of 37 out of 400 anglers this year.

The Carolina Bass Challenge was originally created in 2010 by Brett Collins of Ridgeway, S.C., who was this year’s director and weighmaster.

Massive BBQ Competition Coming To Cabarrus County This Weekend

mount pleasant bbq contestThis coming Friday, some of the best BBQ rivals in our state will be firing up their smokers for Mt. Pleasant’s annual Fall Festival and Polar Pig Cook-Off, with proceeds going to the Mt. Pleasant Food Ministry, Toys for tots and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Wristbands will cost $10 and will allow festival-goers to sample bbq from both the local backyard division as well as from the experts. Live music starts at 6 p.m. and will run until about 10 p.m.

On Saturday morning, vendors and entertainment will be getting started at 9 a.m., and the winners of the competition will be announced at 5 p.m.

The Mt. Pleasant and Northeast Cabarrus fire departments will also offer their own bbq for sale as well.

This coming Saturday (Nov. 12th) Charlotte’s first large-scale indoor obstacle coarse will be opening in South Charlotte off of Providence Rd:

The entire facility will be over 22,000 square feet on the inside (which is 2,000 square feet bigger than Charlotte’s new mega bargain hunt store).

Kinetic Heights will feature tandem zip lines, a bouldering wall, high and low ropes courses, a giant swing, a warp wall, and more.

They charge $15 for ground passes, $20 for all-access passes (ground and height elements), and $25 for all-access passes on the weekends. They also offer a variety of other packages, specials, and programs – you can find out more on their website here.
