Carolina Panthers Released Their 2017 Schedule

Carolina Panthers Playoffs 2016The 2017 Carolina Panthers schedule has just been released!

We’ll be kicking off the season at the site of Superbowl 50, facing off against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 10th. The new schedule includes two prime-time games – Thursday night football against the Eagles on Oct. 12th, and Monday night football against the Dolphins on Nov. 13th.

We’ll be hosting the Buffalo Bills on September 17th at the Bank of America Stadium for our first regular season home game of 2017.

“Our coaching staff has already been hard at work preparing for our opponents, but it is always intriguing to find out when we’re playing the games. It will certainly be a challenge for us, and I’m looking forward to it.” commented Ron Rivera in this week’s press conference.

The Carolina Raptor Center’s Updated Plans For New $11.6 Million Expansion

The Carolina Raptor Center, in partnership with Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation, recently updated their plans for their massive new state-of-the-art Adventure Center at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve in Huntersville, NC, expand their trail system, and enlarge their amphitheater as part of their $11.6 million “Quest” project.

To make this project a reality, Carolina Raptor Center is currently in the quiet phase of a funding campaign to support the design and construction of the new facility, as well as fund an endowment that will help cover the increased costs of operating the site.

A new raptor trail system will include a modern resident bird care facility and exhibit, aviaries for more than 35 species of raptors and a technologically advanced amphitheater.

They will also be building a massive new 13,000 square foot facility that will include:

– Interactive indoor exhibits
– Expanded raptor observation deck
– New high-tech learning spaces
– Expanded gift shop
– New indoor learning labs and flex space
– Larger amphitheater for flight shows and performances.
– New interactive exhibit areas.

“This project has been a long-held dream for all of us at Carolina Raptor Center. This is a once in a generation project that I know will have a positive impact on the community for generations to come,” remarked Jim Warren, Executive Director of the Carolina Raptor Center.

Charlotte’s Newest ‘Escape Room’ Is Opening In The Carolina Place Mall

Charlotte’s newest ‘escape room’ company is now opening in the Carolina Place Mall.

‘Breakout Charlotte’ will be one of 42 other ‘Breakout’ escape rooms in major cities across the country. They will be opening today in a 3,325 square-foot spot between Sears and J.C. Penney.

Participants will be locked in a room where they must work together to problem-solve, find clues, and crack codes to ‘escape’ the room.

It will be very similar to Charlotte’s biggest escape room company, Code Scape – here’s a video we filmed when the Charlotte Stories team tried our hand at escaping one of their rooms:

The new Breakout escape rooms will fit up to 8 people in a room and will cost $26 each person.

This year’s Summer Pops features a 4-concert series plus the Celebrate America! special event. Audiences will enjoy Hollywood hits and music from Star Wars to Broadway favorites, a Jazz collaboration and patriotic favorites with fireworks.

Held at Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall each Sunday in June and on Saturday, July 1 in celebration of Independence Day, these outdoor musical experiences are some of the most highly anticipated events of the season.

Other events and activities will include border collie demonstrations, cane pole fishing, canoeing & kayaking, face painting, geocaching, lead-line horse rides and farm animals.

Tuck Fest is a three-day festival that celebrates the outdoor lifestyle through competitions, exhibitions, demos, and live music, featuring St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Langhorn Slim & The Law. The festival will take place April 21nd through the 23rd at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

The festival features a variety of competitions you can participate in, including; trail running, kayaking, biking, climbing, stand-up paddleboarding, and adventure racing.

Charlotte Community Rallying Together To Help Girl Who Was Orphaned and Kidnapped By Uncle

arie-help-fundOne brave little girl is now receiving help from hundreds of strangers after an unimaginable tragedy.

Earlier this month, Curtis Atkinson Jr. murdered the parents of 11-year-old Arieyana Forney, then kidnapped her and escaped to Washington DC, according to CMPD.

After a national amber alert was issued, she was quickly found in Washington, and Curtis was arrested.

Charlotte’s Hickory Grove Baptist Church and Christian School is now stepping up to help Arieyana.

The church has agreed to pay all the costs for her schooling, and they’ve launched an online fundraising campaign for her living expenses.

“Arieyana was brought back to Charlotte with an immediate need for a family to live with. She is a 6th grader at Hickory Grove Christian School in Charlotte, NC where she expressed the desire to continue to go to school.  She is now back in school and living with a foster family that is connected to the church and school.

Our goal is to raise the support for Arieyana’s immediate needs and to provide a foundation for her long-term needs. Arieyana is starting over from scratch,” according to the campaign.

Woman Stumbles On Rare Snake Mating Ball On Greenway Near Uptown Charlotte

As the weather continues to rise around Charlotte, more and more critters are coming out into the open, especially reptiles. Since snakes are cold blooded, they need to sun themselves to heat their bodies up.

One Charlotte woman just stumbled on a large cluster of snakes that decided to start mating while basking in the rays.

Yesterday afternoon, Christine Proffitt was walking along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway near the Presley Uptown Luxury Apartments when she spotted the mating ball, she tweeted out a picture with the caption: “Watch out on the greenway today guys.”

There are 37 species of snakes commonly seen around the Charlotte area, but only six of them are venomous.

The snakes Christine spotted appear to be Brown Watersnakes and Northern Watersnakes – both non-venomous.

If you’d like to know which snakes are harmless and which might permanently injure or could even kill you, the ‘Snakes of the Southeast‘ guide is a great start.

University City Partners Have Just Announced The First Annual Wine Fest

university-city-wine-festThe University City Partners just announced the first annual Wine Vault University City Wine Fest presented by Greystar and University City Connect. The Wine Fest, a first and only outdoor spring festival in the region, will take place around the lake and boardwalk at the Shoppes at University Place on Saturday, April 22.

“University City is fortunate to celebrate our wine culture by hosting the Wine Vault University City Wine Festival.   The Wine Vault, our local wine shop, has been serving this community for more than 30 years and is generously supporting Wine Fest as the title sponsor,” says Darlene Heater, Executive Director of University City Partners.  “We believe in building a strong community as we build our Ucity, and proceeds from this festival will support our local libraries.”

University City, Charlotte’s second largest employment center and home to more than 160,000 residents, is excited to host the Wine Fest that will attract local and non-local attendees. The event will not only convene the community through entertainment and culture, profits will benefit literacy programming at Charlotte Mecklenburg University City Regional and Sugarcreek Libraries.

“The Wine Vault is excited to bring the University City Wine Fest to our community.  We have shared our wine and our expertisewith this community for many, many years,” said Tim Wallace, Owner of The Wine Vault. “The University City Wine Fest allows the Wine Vault to continue to share our passion for wonderful wine from all over the world, while we give back to our community in such a meaningful way.”

An anticipated 1,500 Wine Fest attendees will experience more than 100 old and new wines from over 25 wineries, while they stroll the boardwalk and enjoy live music and appetizers from area restaurants. Individual tickets and VIP tables are currently available for purchase. General admission includes four hours of unlimited wine tastings and VIP tables include unlimited wine tasting with the addition of seating for 10, one hour of early access to the festival, four bottles of wine and more. Charlotte’s First Cajun-Asian Restaurant Opening This Summer

The Bottle Cap Group is about to open Charlotte’s first ever Cajun-Asian fusion restaurant in the old Nan and Byron’s spot in South End. The group also started and currently owns Charlotte’s Whiskey Warehouse, All American Pub, Brazwells, Ink N Ivy, and Hot Taco.

Their newest restaurant will be called ‘Wu’s Cajun Seafood’ and it will open sometime in the next few months at 1714 South Blvd:

The restaurant will be led by executive chef Troy Gagliardo, who also runs a cooking show on WCCB called “Troy’s Everyday Eats.”
