Sports figures will often give credit to God for a big play or a significant win, but it’s rare that an entire team will thank their higher power for a win.

Last weekend, the Philadelphia Eagles did just that after their first Super Bowl win in history against the highly-favored New England Patriots.

“All glory to God,” MVP Quarterback Nick Foles told reporters after the win.

The Eagles head coach commented, “I can only give the praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me this opportunity.”

Touchdown-scoring Wide Receiver Zach Ertz echoed the sentiment by saying “Glory to God first and foremost,” on Super Bowl Sunday night.

About a week before the big game, the Eagles even posted a picture of the team praying together with the caption, “all we need”

If God really was a major reason for the win, it may be partially due to the spiritual atmosphere here in the Queen City.

When the Philadelphia Eagles traveled to Charlotte to play the Panthers a few months ago, rookie wide receiver Marcus Johnson decided to make the life-changing decision of being baptized in front of his teammates in a Charlotte hotel pool.

Standing around Johnson during his baptism was quarterback Carson Wentz, tight end Zach Ertz, offensive guard Stefen Wisniewski, tight end Trey Burton, linebacker Jordan Hicks and backup quarterback Nick Foles.

Charlotte Man Started GoFundMe To Take Inner-City Youth To Black Panther Movie

Local Charlotte resident Tracey Suggs Jr. has just launched a new GoFundMe campaign to help inspire the youth of North Carolina to dream bigger through the inspiration of a movie.

He notes in the description of his “Black Panther Challenge (NC)” that he wants to “take as many kids in cities like Charlotte, Elkin, RDU, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Winston Salem, and Goldsboro, NC (my hometown) to see Black Panther as possible. In communities where many of our youth are surrounded by crime, poverty, social challenges this a much-needed escape.”

Suggs’ local North Carolina campaign took inspiration from marketing consultant Frederick Joseph’s national campaign called, “Help Children See “Black Panther”“, which has already raised over $47,000 in less than a month.

According to the national campaign, “The release of Marvel’s film the “Black Panther” is a rare opportunity for young students (primarily of color) to see a black major cinematic and comic book character come to life. This representation is truly fundamental for young people, especially those who are often underserved, unprivileged, and marginalized both nationally and globally.”

Charlotte Ranked As The 5th Most Romantic City in America

The Queen City has just been ranked as one of the most romantic cities in America. According to same-day grocery delivery service Instacart, Charlotte is now officially the 5th most romantic city of 2018.

To compile the “Instacart Romance Index”, the website analyzed the following 12 romantic terms to rank cities from most to least romantic;

“We examined the change in Instacart user behavior by comparing growth adjusted week over week changes in the popularity of various search terms. We used a data set comprised of millions of searches from consumers spread over the 190 North American markets in which Instacart operated in 2017. Our results are focused on the strongest relative rise in customer interest in the week of Valentine’s Day for our designated search terms.”

Charlotte ranked just behind Philidelphia, PA (#4) and just ahead of Oakland, CA (#6). Boston took the top spot for 2018’s list of the most romantic cities.

Another NC City also made the list…but in a slightly less glamorous fashion. Raleigh was ranked by Instacart as being the 2nd least romantic city in America, just behind Indianapolis (#1 least romantic).

Rabid Coyote Attacks Car in Huntersville (Video)

This past Saturday, Huntersville resident John Schroter had a surprising and somewhat terrifying encounter with a rabid coyote.

After hearing his neighbor’s dogs barking, John drove his car over to the animal and flashed his lights to try to scare it away from his neighbor’s dogs. The animal looked as if it was going to run off, but then it turned, bared its bloody teeth and attacked his car.

He captured the entire encounter on video and uploaded it to Facebook;

 

After the encounter, he called 911 and described everything to the police.

Later that night, Huntersville police were able to successfully track down the animal, and were forced to kill the irratic coyote.

The police then sent the animal’s body to Raleigh for testing where it was confirmed that it did indeed have the rabies disease.

Coyote sightings continue to rise around the Charlotte region. Recently, a pack of coyotes killed a man’s 2 dogs in the front yard of his Iredell County home, and last February, a German Shepherd therapy dog was also attacked by a pack of coyotes in Weddington.

Since coyotes are not a native animal, they can be hunted year-round, even at night using flashlights – they can also be legally trapped from Nov. 1 to Feb. 28.

Some residents are now equipping their yards with flashing light coyote deterrents, and ultrasonic pest repellers, both of which work on solar power and are motion sensitive.

Officials with the animal control recommend:

▪ Keeping your yard free of any garbage or lingering food smells.

▪ Keep dogs on leashes when walking them, as coyotes are much less likely to approach if a person is nearby.

▪ Look around your backyard for the animals before you let the dogs out.

▪ If you encounter a coyote, back away slowly while yelling and waving your arms. Don’t run.

▪ Call 911 if you are being threatened by coyotes or other animals.

NC Man Claims He Found a Pixie Skeleton – The Photo is Now Going Viral on Facebook

According to Wikipedia, “Pixies are mythical creatures of folklore, considered to be particularly concentrated in the high moorland areas around Devon and Cornwall, suggesting some Celtic origin for the belief and name.”

Wilmington resident James Cornan now believes he found the remains of one of those creatures high up in the Rocky Mountains. After posting a picture of what he found to Facebook earlier this week, his discovery quickly went viral.

The biggest page to share his photo was ‘Pictures in History’, a unique history and science page with over 2.5 million followers. They shared Cornan’s photo on Tuesday evening and it’s already been shared over 27,000 times and received over 2,1000 comments;

Under the photo ‘Pictures in History’ directed people to the book ‘Weird History: A Twisted Tour of America’s Bizarre Past‘ for further explanation of other pixie sightings and evidence.

His photo was also shared by the “What Now?“, “History Games“, “Beyond The Science“, and dozens of other smaller pages.

Most people who commented under the image don’t believe that it’s an actual Pixie skeleton.

One girl claims it’s a finger monkey skeleton;

While someone else believes it to be the remains of a Kebler Elf;

One man even claims it’s a picture of a 50′ tall giant holding the of an average-sized human skeleton;

Charlotte Has a New Professional Football Team – The Carolina Energy

Charlotte’s newest sports team will kick off its inaugural season at the end of next month.

Carolina Energy is a new professional arena football team with the American Arena League (AAL), which formed as the result of a recent merger between two previous leagues—Arena Pro Football and the Can-Am Indoor Football League.

“Carolina Energy is excited to become a part of the community and bring a different kind of sports entertainment to the Queen City,” said head coach Ervin Bryson. “Through our community engagement efforts and by offering an experience unlike any other sporting event, we look forward to creating new arena football fans—from families to young professionals and college students.”

Unlike the NFL, professional arena football is played indoors on a 50-yard turf field, resulting in a fast-paced, high-scoring game similar to basketball. Each sideline is composed of heavily padded walls that mark out of bounds. There are only eight players per team on the playing field at a time instead of 11, and the arena football team has a 21-man roster.

From the pregame show to the after-party, Carolina Energy will offer adrenaline-pumping entertainment, merchandise and gear, and even a post-game meet-and-greet with the players, coaches and staff. There will be tailgating, food trucks, bouncy houses and a DJ outside before the games.

The first game of the season will be against the Triangle Torch at Bojangles’ Coliseum on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 6 p.m.

Carolinas HealthCare System Changing To Atrium As It Expands Across The South East

North Carolina’s largest healthcare network, Carolinas HealthCare System, just announced that it’s changing its name to Atrium Health after 75 years of growth from a single hospital in Charlotte to sprawling web of hospitals throughout the South East.

“It’s quite remarkable to think back to our humble beginnings in 1940, when a group of ambitious, young clinicians answered the call to serve everyone and opened our doors as Charlotte Memorial Hospital,” Atrium Health President and CEO Gene Woods said in a statement. “Now, nearly 80 years later, our doors remain open, and we’ve helped our community thrive.”

The new name will put less branding restrictions on geographical expansion, given that the Carolinas HealthCare System already has hospitals throughout North Carolina, as well as Charleston, SC and Elbert, GA.

While the timing of this name change is only a few months after CHS announced that it will be joining forces with UNC Health Care, it is curiously unrelated.

“Carolinas HealthCare System’s name change announcement today is unrelated to UNC Health Care’s proposed partnership with them,” their statement noted. “The name of the proposed joint operating company remains under discussion and no decision has been made.”

We reported on the historic partnership this past September – what will soon become one of the largest healthcare networks in America. Officials for CHS and UNC say their partnership will not technically be a merger because they do not intend to pool their assets. Some experts have called similar mergers of research institutes with hospital chains ‘virtual-mergers’ since the primary goal is a shared pool of knowledge, not finances or profit.

When the partnership is complete, Atrium and UNC Health Care will have access to a combined 52 hospitals and 95,000 employees;

Charlotte Now Ranks Among America’s Deadliest Cities

According to a new survey by the Major Cities Chiefs Association, Charlotte-Mecklenburg now ranks as the 28th most deadly city in America with a murder rate of 5.6 per 100,000 residents, which is over double what it was during the same period in 2016.

We were tied with Dekalb County, GA and Houston, TX, just ahead of Oklahoma City at #31 with 5.5 per 100,000, and just behind Miami and Albuquerque, both tied for #26 with 5.7 per 100,000. The #1 most deadly city in America was St. Louis, Missouri, with a total of 29.1 murders per 100,000 residents during the first half of 2017.

The survey includes homicide figures from 62 responding metro police agencies across America between January 1 and June 30, 2017.

Charlotte saw a total of 47 homicides during the first half of 2017, compared with just 22 during the first half of 2016.

Concord Police Asking For Public’s Help In Finding ATM Skimming Suspect

A credit card skimmer was recently caught on video in Concord, and now, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

According to a press release, “At approximately 8:30 AM on Febmary 3, 2018, an electronic skimming device was located on the State Employees Credit Union ATM located at 60 Raiford Drive in Concord. These devices are used in an attempt to capture financial card inrormat1on from ATM transactions. The investigation revealed that this device was installed on the ATM on February 1, 2018 at approximately 5:46 PM…Anyone that used the State Employees Credit Union ATM at 60 Raiford Drive between the dates and times listed above should check their bank account for any unknown transactions and speak with a representative at the bank.”

Police are now warning people to check every ATM they use in the Charlotte area by pulling on the card reader and the keypad to ensure they have not been tampered with by a skimmer;

Many people are also now investing in data protection strips and RDIF blocking card holders to prevent identity theft and stolen credit card information.
