Billy Graham’s Body Going To US Capitol After 2 Days of Public Viewing in Charlotte

It’s now been over 2 full days since Billy Graham passed on, and more details are continuing to emerge about the viewing and funeral plans for his body.

After his motorcade travels from Asheville to Charlotte on Saturday, his body will rest in a closed casket for two days next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 26-27th) in his childhood home on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library for public viewing.

It’s now been confirmed that his body will then be transported to Washington, DC on Wednesday (Feb. 28th), where it will lie in repose in the Capitol Rotunda until March 1st, when it will be transported back to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte for his final funeral service and burial.

New South Carolina Bill Would Outlaw Saggy Pants in Public

A new South Carolina bill, if passed, would make it illegal for anyone to wear “sagging pants” in public.

SC House Bill 4957 was introduced last week by 10 South Carolina representatives, who all co-sponsored the bill.

The bill reads;

“TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 16-17-780 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR A PERSON TO WEAR PANTS SAGGING MORE THAN THREE INCHES BELOW HIS ILEUM, TO PROVIDE FOR PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS, TO PROVIDE THAT A VIOLATION IS NOT GROUNDS FOR DENYING, SUSPENDING, OR REVOKING THE VIOLATOR’S PARTICIPATION IN A STATE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, AND TO PROVIDE JURISDICTION OF A VIOLATION IS VESTED EXCLUSIVELY IN THE MUNICIPAL COURT OR THE MAGISTRATES COURT.”

According to dictionary.com, the Ileum is “the third and lowest division of the small intestine, extending from the jejunum to the cecum.”

This would mean pants could sit no more than about 3 inches below the belly button;

Some have speculated that the lawmakers really meant to write “ilium” spelled with an “i”, instead of “ileum” spelled with an “e”. Ilium, with an “i” is the broad, upper portion of either hipbone. If they did actually mean “Ilium”, and they change the wording of the law to reflect that, then people would be allowed to wear jeans that slightly sagged 3 inches below the top of the hip bone;

If the bill is signed into law, it would outlaw pants worn below 3 inches under the top of the hip bone.

Meaning that this would become illegal;

Offenders of the new law would face a $25 fine for their 1st offense; a $50 fine or up to three hours of community service, or both, for their 2nd; and a $75 fine or up to six hours of community service, or both, for their 3rd.

The violations would never become criminal or delinquent offenses, according to the bill, and all offenses would be handled by municipal or magistrate court.

Bi-Lo May Close 200 Stores As It Prepares For Bankruptcy

It’s just been reported that Bi-Lo might soon close almost 200 stores before filing for bankruptcy next month.

According to a Bloomberg report, “Bi-Lo is laboring under more than $1 billion in debt following its 2005 buyout by Lone Star Funds. The company and its creditors have held talks to discuss a possible debt-to-equity swap, as well as alternatives such as asset sales.”

The closures could mean that several of the 21 Charlotte-area Bi-Lo locations might shut down.

 

A representative for Bi-Lo’s parent company, Southeastern Grocers, has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Bi-Lo, along with most other grocers, has been fighting with staying competitive in today’s world of discount food suppliers like Wal-Mart, Lidl, and Amazon Prime Pantry.

Chicago White Sox Are Coming To Charlotte To Play The Knights

This coming Spring, the Charlotte Knights will start their 5th season in the now-famous BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte (ranked as the best minor league ballpark in America), and their 20th season as the top minor league affiliate for the Chicago White Sox.

To celebrate this milestone, the Chicago White Sox have announced they will be coming to the Queen City to play the Charlotte Knights in an exhibition game at the BB&T Ballpark. This will be the 4th time in the 20 year history of the Knights that the 2 teams have faced off.

“We are extremely excited to have the White Sox finish their 2018 exhibition schedule with a visit to BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, one of the finest facilities in Minor League Baseball,” said Chris Getz, White Sox Director of Player Development. “We are extremely proud of our relationship with the Knights, who have served as a fantastic partner for our organization. We are looking forward to visiting Uptown Charlotte next March to show the Knights fans how instrumental their team has been in the success of many of our young players.”

The Knights will be selling special collectible jerseys featuring 20th Season Commemorative Logos. A patch with the new logo will be sewn onto all home white jerseys for the 2018 season, and the team will wear special 20th Season jerseys on select nights during the 2018 season;

‘American Pickers’ is Coming To North Carolina – Asking For Leads

The hit History Channel show “American Pickers” is planning a visit to the Tar Heel State to search for a truckload of forgotten treasures.

Hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz and their entire film crew will be digging through old barns and garages all around North Carolina this coming Spring (exact dates have not yet been released).

The show has just sent out a press release asking for people who have an abundance of old treasures, who would consider selling them, and who would want to be on national TV.

They are only interested in private collections – not stores, auctions, businesses or anything else that might be generally open to the public.

The Complete Funeral Plans for Billy Graham – Feb. 22nd through March 3rd

Yesterday evening, officials with The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) held a press conference outside of Billy Graham Library to give more details about Billy Graham’s passing and the upcoming funeral plans.

According to BGEA, Dr. Graham passed away in his sleep early Wednesday morning (2/21/2018) with a nurse by his side at his Montreat, N.C. home. His son, Franklin Graham was in Dallas, Tx when he got the call yesterday morning.

Dr. Graham’s body will be transported from the Morris Funeral Home in Asheville this afternoon (2/22) at 3:00 p.m. to the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove in Asheville where a small private event will be held.

On Saturday, Feb 24, there will be a private family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the training center in Asheville.

Motorcade

At about 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, a motorcade will depart the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville, North Carolina, travel East on I-40 to Hickory, South on 321 to Gastonia, then North on I-85 to Charlotte.

It will arrive in Charlotte at 2:20pm on I-85, travel South on the Brookshire Freeway onto I-277, then take 3B onto North Tryon St., there will be public viewing areas all along North Tryon Street and Stonewall Street in Uptown Charlotte, and along South Blvd. in South End. The motorcade will then turn right on Remount Rd., left on South Tryon Street, and Right on the Billy Graham Parkway on its way to the final resting place of Billy Graham’s earthly body – the Billy Graham Library.

At 3 p.m. there will be an arrival ceremony in front of the Billy Graham Library.

Lie in Repose

On Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 26-27, Dr. Graham’s body will lie in repose inside the Graham Family Homeplace on the grounds of The Billy Graham Library for public viewing (the casket will remain closed). Public viewing times will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

There will be no on-site public parking for these two days. All public parking will be accommodated at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center located at 7100 Forest Point Blvd., and at the Charlotte Business Valet, Lot 2 at 5613 Wilkinson Blvd. Complimentary public shuttle buses will run continually from these lots to and from the Graham Family Homeplace. The last shuttle will depart the parking lot 30 minutes before the public lie in repose closes.

Funeral

A private funeral service will be held on Friday, March 2 between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30pm under a tent outside the Billy Graham Library. President Trump, along will all other living US presidents have been invited to attend the funeral.

Officials are planning for a total of 2,300 people to attend the funeral. The reverend’s son, Franklin Graham, will give the message, and several other family members will also speak.

Dr. Graham will be buried beside his wife, Ruth, at the foot of the cross-shaped brick walkway in the Prayer Garden, on the northeast side of the Billy Graham Library.

America’s Pastor, Billy Graham, Died Peacefully This Morning At The Age of 99

William Franklin Graham Jr., known around the world as Billy Graham, died this morning at the age of 99 in his mountain home in Montreat, NC, just east of Asheville, according to a spokesperson with the Billy Graham Evangelical Association.

Reverend Graham, one of the greatest evangelists of all time, and the most legendary son of Charlotte, was born on November 7, 1918 as the oldest of the four children of William and Morrow Graham. He was raised on a dairy farm off Park Rd., next to what is now the Park Rd. Shopping Center.

Graham is most well known for hosting massive evangelistic crusades. He led his first one in 1947, and continued preaching the simple message of the gospel of Jesus Christ for the next 60 years, personally to 84 million people in 60 countries, and on TV and the radio to 210 million people in 185 countries.

He officially preached his last video sermon in 2013, entitled “The Cross – Billy Graham’s Message To America”;

Mr. Graham has personally met with and counseled the past 12 US Presidents, starting with President Harry Truman in 1945. He was also the first major evangelist to speak behind the Iron Curtain.

Billy Graham has published dozens of best-selling books, including Angels: God’s Secret Agents and The Jesus Generation, wrote a weekly column that was syndicated in hundreds of newspapers, and has received hundreds of awards and honors, including; the Horatio Alger Award, the George Washington Honor Medal, the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award, the Congressional Gold Medal, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A highway in Charlotte bears his name, as does part of Interstate 240 near his home in Asheville, North Carolina.

The Arts Council of York County is now accepting applications for 2019 gallery exhibitions in the Dalton Gallery at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730. The Arts Council is a non-profit organization committed to creating and supporting a thriving arts community in York County, South Carolina. The Dalton Gallery, a professional gallery appropriated for the exhibition of experienced artists and community projects, is located at the Center for the Arts. The Dalton Gallery is an 1,800-square-foot space, illuminated by adjustable track lighting.

Each year the Arts Council presents six to eight exhibits. Artists wishing to be considered for one of the Arts Council’s 2019 gallery exhibitions, please submit the following to Mike Gentry, Gallery Manager, by 5 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018

Gaston County Students Suspended For Protesting Gun Violence

Yesterday 12 students from South Point High School in Belmont walked out to protest gun violence after last week’s mass shooting in Parkland, Fl that resulted in the death of 17 people.

The group held picket signs and chanted in unison, “enough is Enough” and “it ends here” to passing traffic along South Point Rd.

The students intended to protest for 17 minutes — one minute for each life lost last week;

Each student was issued a 10-day suspension for participating in the protest after disobeying instructions by the administration not to walk out during school hours.

Yesterday’s protest was just one of the hundreds of other protests and walkouts at schools across America;

Several CMS groups have said they will be planning similar protests on March 14, March 24 and April 20.

Update 2/23/2018: Superintendent W. Jeffrey Booker has informed us that they have decided to change their initial decision and not to suspend the students who were involved in the South Point High School protest.

New South Carolina Bill Requires Active Shooter Drills in Elementary Schools

Today at noon, South Carolina Rep. Marvin Pendarvis will be introducing a new bill that would require active shooter drills in all public schools.

The bill would require that all public schools, including elementary schools, set up monthly drills under the direction of the department of education and SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division).

Pendarvis said he expects to see broad bipartisan support for the bill after it is introduced later today.

“I felt like this was a perfect time to say hey let us require that and not only do we require it but let’s increase the frequency,” Pendavis commented. “In the event that an unfortunate situation does occur we are putting our children and teachers and staff in the best position in order to handle themselves in a way that will save the most lives.”

He noted that every school already has fire drills, but it’s extremely rare for a child to die in a school fire. He thinks that regular active shooter drills should have a higher priority.
