Bumper Car Catches On Fire At Carowinds (Video)

Yesterday afternoon a shocking development happened at Carowind’s Dodg’ems ride.

One of the small bumper cars suddenly burst into flames after a rider left his seat.

Park visitor Scott Spainhour captured the fire on his cell phone and uploaded it to Facebook, saying; “Current situation at Carowinds!”

An official spokesperson at Carowinds released the following statement after the ride was re-opened;

“At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, there was a small fire on a Dodg’ems bumper car. The passenger had already left the car and there were no injuries. The ride attendant immediately responded with a fire extinguisher as trained. The ride has been inspected and tested, and has resumed normal operations.”

The incident has already started generating its own memes;

New North Carolina Law Makes It A Felony To Fly Drones Over Jails

drone-over-charlotteA new law just went into effect that makes flying a drone within 500 feet of a jail or prison a misdemeanor and flying a drone over a jail or prison with the purpose of delivering contraband to inmates a felony.

North Carolina’s new H.B.128, states that anyone who flies a drone with a horizontal distance of 500 feet and a vertical distance of 250 feet from a local, state, or federal confinement or correctional facility will be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor, including a fine of $500 and the seizure of the drone.

The law cites G.S. 153A-217 to define “local confinement facility”, which includes; a county or city jail, a local lockup, a regional or district jail, a juvenile detention facility, a detention facility for adults operated by a local government, and any other facility operated by a local government for confinement of persons awaiting trial or serving sentences.

The new law becomes especially problematic for anyone who might fly a drone around Uptown Charlotte. If your drone flys within the 500-foot boundary of Charlotte’s Uptown jail, even by accident, you could be arrested;

The law does allow for exceptions by law enforcement officers or federally approved commercial UAS pilots, however, commercial operations must still remain at least 150 feet away from the prison, both vertically and horizontally.

According to Governor Cooper, drones have been found carrying contraband at or near North Carolina prisons at least twice. Earlier this month, South Carolina even witnessed their first drone-assisted prison escape.

“Criminals look to exploit the latest technology, and we must make sure our laws keep up,” Cooper says in a press release. “Drones are the newest way to get drugs and weapons behind prison walls, and this law will help law enforcement fight prison contraband and the crime it causes.”

To measure America’s progress in harmonizing racial groups, WalletHub’s analysts measured the gaps between blacks and whites in 16 key indicators of equality and integration for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The data set ranges from “median annual income ” to “standardized test scores” to “voter turnout.”

This report examines the differences between only blacks and whites in light of the high-profile police-brutality incidents that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement and the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who played a prominent role in the Civil Rights Movement to end segregation and discrimination against blacks.

Local Mooresville resident and NASCAR racing legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. has recently started a new business venture with his new wife – house flipping. The couple is about to star in their own DIY renovation show called Renovation Realities. 

According to DIY, “NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, and interior designer, Amy rescue a crumbling 150-year-old home in Key West’s historic Old Town district. The project gets underway with shoring up the foundation and flooring then reconfiguring the ground floor to add a full bath and guest bedroom.”

The show features Dale getting his hands dirty with some epic power took and demolition moments;

Amber Alert Issued For Missing 7-Month-Old Girl Abducted By Sex Offender

The Virginia State police in cooperation with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol have just issued a joint amber alert for a missing 7-month-old girl, who is believed to have been abducted by a registered sex offender.

Young Emma Grace Kennedy was thought to have been abducted by 51-year-old Carl Ray Kennedy, who is a registered sex offender with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

According to the Virginia State Police, Emma is believed to be in extreme danger & was last seen at the Kwik Stop on Riverside Dr. in Danville, VA on last night at 7:55 p.m. She should be traveling in a gold, 4-door Suzuki with NC license plate “FAA 1873.”;

Emma is described as being a white female with blond hair and blue eyes. She’s about 2’2 in length and weighs about 18 lbs. She was last seen wearing a light-blue onesie.

Charlotte Councilwoman Mayfield Causing More Controversy By Promising To Remove “Bad Cops”

Charlotte City Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield has just poured fire on a local controversy with yet another shocking tweet.

She essentially confirmed and strengthened her previous tweet which compared police officers to terrorists.

In her latest post, the councilwoman stated, “To all of you talking nonsense about my posts, forget you. A black man can’t drink in his own garage, can’t drive down the street, car can’t break down, can’t walk in a store without being killed by someone in a police uniform. So who is going work to remove the bad cops? #I will.”

Her tweet was posted just hours after dozens of police wives confronted Mayfield in a council meeting, holding signs and wore t-shirts that read, “My husband is not a terrorist. My husband is a hero”.

The public started to speak out against the Councilwoman from a controversial tweet, originally posted in March;

“Being black in America under number 45 has created homegrown terrorist wearing blue uniforms,” she stated in her post;

After people began commenting on the tweet, she defended herself on the social media platform;

Her police tweet was actually the second major tweet controversy from the councilwoman.

Last month, she shared an article about a conspiracy theory and questioned the 9/11 terrorist attack.

The tweet was soon deleted, but not before a petition was created, calling for her resignation.

According to the petition;

“This theory was completely and thoroughly debunked in a 2017 study by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It conclusively proved what most of the nation saw that day–the towers collapsed due to the massive damage from the impact of two large jumbo jets.

By giving her imprimatur to this conspiracy theory, Mayfield has brought shame and disgrace upon herself, her district, her city, and her state. It is simply not acceptable for an elected official to use his or her platform to promote such claptrap.”

Last night at 10pm Duke Energy was reporting over 28,000 power outages around the Charlotte region, and as of 9am this morning, they were still reporting 8,119 power outages across our region.

America’s Largest Art and Farm Tour Starts Next Weekend in York County

The South Carolina Ag + Art Tour is the nation’s largest free, self- guided tour of farms featuring local artisans and farmer’s markets. Set to take place at local farms and farm stands in 12 counties across South Carolina – Chester, Chesterfield, Darlington, Fairfield, Florence, Horry, Kershaw, Lancaster, Newberry, Spartanburg, Union and York Counties. Visitors have the chance to see first-hand where their food comes from, watch artists in action, purchase homemade and homegrown goods, and learn more about rural life. Different counties are participating each weekend, giving visitors the opportunity to explore more farms and farm stands across the state.

The first Ag + Art Tour started in 2012 in York County to bring together agriculture and art. York County hosted close to 3,000 visitors during the inaugural year. The Tour expanded to include 1 – 3 more counties each year since its inception. In 2018, Spartanburg County joins the tour to bring the total number of participating counties to twelve. The Ag + Art Tour of York County kicks off with a Farm to Fork Dinner on Friday, June 1 at Black’s Peaches, 1800 Black Highway, York, SC, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Dan “The Pig Man” Huntley, will be preparing a delicious family-style dinner using the freshest ingredients sourced from regional farms, including Tatonka Bison Farm located in York County, South Carolina. Many participating artists and farmers will be in attendance, and music will be performed by jazz guitarist, Ken Blinko. Tickets must be purchased in advance – $65 per person. YORK COUNTY HERITAGE QUILT TRAIL
Two new barn quilt blocks have been created for the 2018 Tour – one featuring the Bear Claw pattern, and the other bearing a Sunflower pattern! The 4’ x 4’ quilt patterns were designed and built by members of the Oconee Conservatory of Fine Arts in Walhalla, South Carolina. With the addition of these new blocks, there are now 13 barn quilt blocks on display at farms that participate in the Ag + Art Tour of York County. The York County Heritage Quilt Trail is a part of the South Carolina Quilt Trails. The new blocks were provided by the Arts Council of York County, funded by a grant from York Electric Co-Op.

The most beautiful, and the most deadly jellyfish in the world is now washing up onto Carolina beaches in droves, and many are discovering first hand that the creatures are just as dangerous dead as they are alive

Star News Online reported several posts on Facebook showing the man-of-wars washing up on North Carolina beaches.

“Portuguese man o’ wars all along the coast yesterday. On every beach I hit up from North Topsail to Indian Beach, to Fort Macon and Emerald Isle,” according to one Facebook post.

An Oak Island beachgoer also posted another, reading, “They were all over the beach today, I saw several. They will hurt you!”

Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue has also reported sightings of the creatures;

The Portuguese man o’ war is a marine cnidarian of the family Physaliidae. They differ slightly from a traditional jellyfish in that they are a colony of organisms living in symbiotic harmony, as opposed to most jellyfish, which are 1 organism. Their name comes from their resemblance to 18th-century Portuguese warships, and because of their deadly stings.

According to National Geographic, “The tentacles contain batteries of cells that house miniscule, hollow harpoons called nematocysts. Those barbed harpoons act like hypodermic needles, enabling the man-of-war to inject a potent mix of venom into a victim.

If you’re planning on visiting a Carolina beach over the next few weeks, officials are now advising beachgoers to carry jellyfish sting ointment with them in case of stings.
