  • Further increase the number of people allowed at gatherings
  • Continue rigorous restrictions on nursing homes and other congregant care settings

Online promotions during COVID-19 are starting to look predatory

0

You’re probably just as tired from getting the same old tired message from every company that’s a mailing list you’ve ever joined. It’s like suddenly everyone is dumping all the information that no one is even interested in while not doing any actual work to help fight the pandemic.

The fake, unnecessary promos and information have become so common that people are now asking for special filters to block out all the inaccurate COVID-19 info.

While the world is concerned about the financial consequences that will follow, some might even lose their jobs permanently and will have to struggle to purchase the bare minimum, meanwhile, some companies have decided to turn this into a major profit scam that is actually exploiting the vulnerable state that we’re all in right now. You might be getting taken advantage of and have no idea. This is what the companies are trying to do while offering a solution to the anxious feelings that are more than normal in times like these and the best thing one can really do is accept the reality and do everything they can to stay safe, and there is no one-stop solution that is going to magically take away all the problems, but many companies would disagree,

What even is “self-care”

The world self-care has been thrown around a lot over the last few years and the idea of taking care of one’s self has somehow morphed into something completely monetizable, even if the concept wasn’t originally meant to signify spending hundreds of dollars to fix an internal problem with an eternal solution.

The point is not to say that any advertisement in times like this is unethical because some platforms can actually help us and distract us from the news and give us some activity to do that everyone will enjoy. Streaming services have been a huge help to people in times like these and many resort to tv shows to make them feel better when anxious or confused. The online casinos have also served as a shelter from the scary reality and as a nice side hustle that could actually bring you some extra cash at the same time. Googling the list of best casino bonuses 2020 could actually bring you money without you having to spend any on your own. Activities like these aren’t really a problem because they aren’t claiming to be able to solve a pandemic for you.

But we are now seeing more and more companies claiming to hold the answer to all of this, which of course you can only find out by purchasing their item.

Specifically, the pseudo healthcare industry has clutched onto this pandemic to try and squeeze as much publicity out of it as possible. We‘ve seen multiple claims that are based on virtually nothing and that claim to have the cure, the necessary defense system against the virus. Be that with the set of gummy vitamins that are supposed to improve your immunity, or some essential oils for diffusers, or special facemasks or equipment meant to protect yours from the virus.

But even the medical professionals who treat medical patients all day don’t know exactly how to stop the virus so it’s extremely unethical to claim to hold the essential product that everyone needs to stay safe from the COVID-19.

Unethical marketing

This pandemic has put our whole world upside down, everyone is confused and scared and those who were anxious, to begin with, are having a hard time coping with the new reality. And these companies are clearly taking advantage of those seeking some solace in time of major shift.

No “self-care” product can help a person overcome the actual dangers associated with this virus and to claim anything similar is actually alarming.

Above anything else, it is actually damaging to the physical health of people these companies are trying to sell to because these bold claims might actually stop them from protecting the safety measure as they are supposed to follow through, actually doing more damage.

You have likely already seen the advertisement for all the “unconventional” ways to treat the COVID-19, with companies talking with more confidence than the leading doctors all across the world.

The virus is so novel and unknown that we are learning about it day by day, so are the doctors.

To make such bold claims and try to capitalize on the global pandemic that has damaged the lives of millions of people, left so many across the world jobless and with no clear idea as to what the future hold, just seems like the most unethical thing to do.

Self-care should not be used to trick people into thinking that just about anything that looks somewhat pleasing or makes vague claims can count as actually caring for one’s self and instead the whole idea of self-care should focus much less on buying products and more so on the experiences and activities that actually leave a lasting effect on a  person. There is almost no chance that any physical item you purchase will magically take your troubles away, and even if they have some medical claims, ones to try to mask it as a universal cure for the COVID-19, are clearly lying and have no moral standard.

Change your habits practicing sports at home during the Corona pandemic

0

The Corona pandemic has had a significant effect on sporting activities across the globe, and things are no longer the same. With most governments seeking to flatten the infection curve, strict measures have been put in place. Among them is banning any form of social congregating, and most sporting activities attract hordes of fans.

Nevertheless, with lockdowns, it does not mean that people can no longer participate in sports. There are lots of worthwhile sporting activities that you can engage in at home in a bid not only to enjoy but also to keep fit. Having a small treadmill or using sports apps could be ways to get around it. You do not want to emerge from your home unfit after the wave of Corona has subsided.

However, there are additional sporting activities that you could engage in at home during these tough times including the following:

Racket Games

There are a variety of racket games that you could partake in the comfort of your home with your loved ones. Games such as table tennis, squash, racquetball, and badminton are not only exciting sports but will also make you break a sweat. You also get a chance to connect with your family while keeping fit

Work-out

You do not need to have a gym or even just a small treadmill to work out. There are lots of work-out drills that can help you keep fit, especially now that most gyms have closed down with Corona. You might not have your gym instructor with you, but there are lots of credible online text and video guidance tutorials you could follow.

The simplest work-out drills that you can adopt include:

  • Lunges
  • Squats
  • Planks
  • Pushups

You could also purchase dumbbells to help you with free weight drills such as shoulder press and kickbacks. Getting some resistance bands could also come in handy to help you do some hip extensions, leg press, and essential pull-aparts.

Disc Games

Disc games such as Frisbee and Disc dog are another easy way to keep your body in great shape and also kill boredom. These games are exciting, help to relieve stress, and are an excellent way to bond with your family or pet dog. You can engage your dog or your family members by throwing a disc-shaped object to each other.

Should you have a spacious backyard, these games should be on your program. Corona should not be the reason to lose fitness.

Swimming

If you are lucky to have a home swimming pool, swimming is one of the most recommended sports to keep fit. Even better, the game is gratifying. It is a relaxing drill to help you burn those unwarranted calories that you might gain in the lockdown.

Moreover, swimming is a perfect massage drill that comes in handy to relieve you of joint strains. It also helps alleviate stress and kill bad moods.

Yard / Swimming Runs

You might be used to those mornings or evenings runs in the park, but with the Corona pandemic, the park is a no-go zone. If you have a large yard, you can still run around your yard. You could also take several laps around your swimming pool.

Yard or swimming pool runs combined with appropriate work-out drills will almost match your gym programs.

Weight Lifts

If you are lucky to have a home gym, weight-lifting is an excellent opportunity not only to keep fit but also to gain some muscles. Even better, with such at your disposal, you can participate in virtual weight lifting and bodybuilding competitions over the internet.

Tai Chi and Yoga

While social distancing at your home, you can explore ways to strengthen your mind and relieve stress. Tai Chi and Yoga come in handy to help you achieve such. They are the perfect ways to uplift your mental health.

It is true to say that sporting engagements are no longer as you knew them, but even in the constraints of your home, there is a lot you can do. If you love sports, don’t let Corona be the reason you give up. Keep fit and keep training at home.

How to Help Your Cat and Dog to Get Along

0

Will a cat and dog get along in your house? Will they ever get along? How much time is needed, and which rules to follow to prevent animals from fighting? If you ever got those questions, this article is a must!

The union of a cat and dog can either turn out to be very nice and friendly or turn into a real feud. The biggest danger is that the pets will both be jealous of you.

General advice

If an adult pet already lives in the house, you can make peace between them by adhering to the following rules. Consider that animals of different sexes are more likely to become friends with each other. Before your two pets ever meet, think about buying insurance here for both, because you genuinely cannot predict how the first meeting will end. It is better to feed pets in different rooms. If this is not possible, then put the cat’s bowl as high as possible so that the dog can’t get to it. Having eaten their portion, they will undoubtedly go to the cat’s bowl, hoping to feast on there too. If the cat is fed up (and they usually do not eat everything at once and go to their bowl during the day), this behavior of the apartment’s neighbor will be hostile. Unlike dogs, cats are offended when someone attacks their food.

If the cat began to lay on your arms or climb into your arms, and the dog at that moment is nearby and sees how you are stroking the kitty, pay attention to the second four-legged one. If you ignore the second pet at this moment, the animal has a grudge and a desire to evict the competitor. Do not scold for hissing and roaring. At first, closely monitor both tetrapods and check how they behave while remaining in the room with each other. If you see a cat hissing at a dog or, conversely, a cat growls and grins, do not swear and do not raise your voice. Come and calmly solve the situation.

In those moments, when animals will express friendliness and will come to smell each other, sit next to each other or begin to flirt, praise, and encourage them with a treat.

First meeting

Extreme care must be taken at the first meeting of an adult dog and a small kitten. If you are not holding a new pet in your arms, you should monitor what is happening during all contact. The dog will likely try to make friends with the new tenant. This can be understood by waving the tail and peeking with interest. This reaction will be incomprehensible to the kitten. Instinctively he will try to clutch his claws into the attacking muzzle. But another response is possible – it will start to run away, and the hunting instinct will work for the dog, and he will begin the pursuit.

When the animals met, it is necessary to make sure that none of them have a feeling of jealousy. Discipline and proper education will make four-legged pets the best friends. We advise you to adhere to some rules:

  • Never feed a dog and cat from the same bowl. Both of them must have their dishes, as well as a specially designated place for a meal. Over time, they will start to eat from one bowl on their own.
  • Each pet should have a separate place to sleep. If the dog is not allowed on the bed, then the cat cannot violate this rule either.
  • Never beat your animals, as this can cause aggression. Besides, this behavior is exceptionally inhumane towards the smallest members of your family.

If you have not yet got a second pet, but you observe aggressive behavior in your four-legged pet, we recommend that you think twice about whether it is worth introducing another animal into your family.

Most importantly, do not forget that both animals should feel your care equally. Love and patience will help you reconcile two different, but such beloved pets.

Walk-On Charlotte LB Selected In The 3rd Round of NFL Draft – Credits His Christian Faith

0

After just 7 seasons of even having a football program, a walk-on UNC Charlotte linebacker has just been chosen in the 3rd round of the NFL draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially selected Alex Highsmith last night in the 3rd round of the NFL draft at number 102 overall.

Highsmith was overlooked by all major collegiate football programs while at Ashley high school in Wilmington. He decided to attend UNCC and join the 49ers football team without a scholarship or any accolades to his name.

via 49ers Athletics

“Coming in (to UNCC) as a walk-on, I just wanted to prove people wrong and show people that I could play,” Highsmith remarked to the Niner Times. “I just wanted to keep my head down, be the first one to enter the building and the last one to leave… people didn’t want me, so that’s one of the things that motivates me as well.”

He noted that the most important factor in his determination and ultimate success was his Christian faith.

“Jesus died for me, I’ve got to live for Him. That’s why it’s so important because all the things in this world are fleeting. I love this game of football, it’s amazing, but it’s not my God. I’ve tried to put my identity in the sport at times and it’s let me down. This game, it’s great, but it’s not going to be God,” Highsmith said. “Having a foundation in Christ is so important to me because Jesus Christ is the same forever. Today, yesterday, forever. That’s why it’s so important; He gave it all for us, so we’ve gotta give it all for Him.”

After spending his redshirt freshman season working on strength and learning his new position at OLB, Highsmith earned a 49ers scholarship. He finished his senior year at Charlotte ranked fourth in the nation with 14 sacks (2019) and was named to the NFL All-Combine team. He recorded the fourth-fastest 40 time (4.7 seconds) among all defensive linemen.

Here are just a few epic clips showing Highsmith’s raw talent:

Here was the moment it happened:

How to Protect Your Identity When Shopping Online

0

Nothing has more fun and a bonded feeling of technology freedom than shopping online at the comfort of your house. Nevertheless, do you know online shopping at times makes you vulnerable for online fraud and identity theft? Yeah, online identity theft is any deception that yields a loss of personal data such as usernames, passwords, among others. Astonishingly, Online Application for social security card is a victim for hackers, whereby they use your information to make unapproved sales. In extreme cases, this can rock your financial accounts or end up in jail. The frightening reality of identity fraud is that it can happen to anyone. However, to head off the identity theft possibilities, below are some ideal tactics to stay ahead of the online shopping hackers.

  1. Know The Business Sites You Shop At

Some online shopping sites are fabricated by people who want your details. Besides, hackers have unbeaten their skills by plagiarizing web destinations that look like a legitimate store. To renounce such cyber-attacks, ensure you browse through a reputed search engine such as Google. Confirm the URL and check for unusual long strings of numbers and letters.

  1. Confirm Site’s Encryption Security

There are two most effective techniques for verifying a website’s security. The most predominant one is evaluating the URL, whether it starts with https://. Nowadays, a vast number of online selling companies are shifting to https. The second security verification is authenticating a universal symbol that resembles a lock and mostly appears either next to the URL or at the bottom corner of the web browser.

  1. Avoid Free Public Networks

Public unencrypted networks facilitate online hackers in intercepting and capturing your personal information if you use the networks. Despite running regular virus checks on your hardware, you may never be sure whether a community network is free from malware. However, to be safe, it’s advisable you use your private network. The unique VPN on your network encrypts your personal data blocking any external access into it.

  1. Go For Credit Payment Options Over Debit Payment

Credit cards offer an advanced level of fraud protection, which is uncommon with debit cards. Credit card providers are always at the forefront in noticing identity theft even before the user realizes it. If getting into debt sounds challenging to you, you can opt for a cash-loaded disposable gift card.

  1. Don’t Store Payment Information Under Saved Password In Your Google Account

Some of the online sellers may persuade you to store your credit card information in their system. However, don’t be lured by a quick shopping process as it can cost you a fortune. With the influx of data breaches, such stored information can be a threat in compromising your identity. Instead of storing your information on a server, you have zero control, do it manually, and be conversant with your identity protection.

  1. Use Reputable Third-Party Payment Methods

Third-party programs such as PayPal or Google pay can be an impeccable technique in grounding the level of online purchases security. They deny the vendors from having your credit card number details. Unfortunately, no matter how safe they are, never save your payment information on such programs. If by any chance, hackers gain access to the data, they will use personal information to impersonate you online.

  1. Use Disposable Prepaid Credit

Using a disposable credit card is wise, contrary to a credit card. A disposable credit works similarly with gift cards whereby you load it with the specified amount until it gets exhausted. If by bad luck, the disposable card is stolen, the criminals can’t gain access to anything more than the balance in the card.

  1. Go for Credit Card With Select Security Features

Some credit cards have unique features that offer high financial security guarantees. For example, you may be provided with a special temporary card number for purchases only. Neither the business nor hackers can have access to the originally issued number of a credit card by the service provider. However, some of the credit cards have set account alerts to inform you in case of a suspicious purchase.

  1. Strong And Secure Passwords

Weak passwords are a hacker’s happiness and those who use similar passwords for a multitude of accounts. Once a hacker familiarizes you with your passwords, they can wreak your financial accounts and have access to your personalized information. Longer passwords that do not reflect your personal information, such as birthdate and age, are the most ideal for securing your identity. Besides, password managers and two-factor authentications go handy with securing your accounts.

  1. Stay Alert

You should be abreast in checking out for identity theft signs such as inappropriate credit report information such as incompetent social security number among others, missing or delayed bills. They may indicate your account has been hijacked to enhance you, change the billing address and hide the fraud. There is also being sent a credit card that you didn’t apply or receiving calls and alerts of past-due bills for unknown products.

What to Do if You Suspect Identity Fraud

Online hackers often work as fast as possible to rack up charges before the victim discovers what has happened. If you think you have been scammed online, supplement these steps regardless of identity theft.

  • Report to the Federal Trade Commission

Normally, they will provide you with a personal recovery plan. Besides, since this is a police case, they will issue you with an affidavit to report. You can as well as create an FTC account to guide you through the recovery step.

  • Change Your Passwords

Upon suspecting identity fraud, immediately change your compromised account’s password. Update your password with the responsible financial institution handling the compromised account. This protects you from wreak havoc to your accounts if perhaps the fraudster had obtained your login information.

  • Freeze Your Credit

This curbs any new credit lines that may be applied afresh with your personal details. However, if you may feel the urge to own another credit card, get in touch with bureaus to unfreeze the account details. However, you can switch on or switch off the credit file in locking freeze information.

  • Monitor Your Credit

Be apt on your Online Application for a social security card to make sure there is no advanced unauthorized activity that happens.

  • Contact One Of The Credit Bureaus

Once you inform one of the bureaus, a fraud alert is placed on your credit report, and the bureau informs the other two. This encourages creditors to verify their information before approving a new credit application. This service lasts for one year; however, it can be extended only after providing the necessary documents such as police reports.

  • Contact Your Card Issuer

The sooner you inform your card issuer of the incident, the faster they will cancel the compromised card or account. Moreover, they will help you in fraud investigation and remove any fraudulent charges.

When shopping online, safeguarding your personal information is crucial. But what is PII? PII, or Personally Identifiable Information, refers to any data that can identify an individual, such as your name, address, phone number, and credit card details. Protecting your PII involves using strong passwords, avoiding public Wi-Fi for transactions, and being cautious about sharing information on untrusted websites. Understanding and protecting your PII can significantly reduce the risk of identity theft.

Don’t let online shopping benefits lull you into complacency; always take your time during and try Online Application for a replacement social security card. The majority of fraudsters go after those who fail to protect their financial details online authentically.

Are Unsecured Loans Possible When You Have Bad Credit?

0

People with bad credit looming over their heads already know some of the problems they can face because of their credit score. It can be exceedingly difficult to apply for credit cards, get credit from businesses, and even open checking accounts if they are flagged by background systems such as ChexSystems.

What if you have bad credit and find yourself needing money in an emergency situation? Thanks to your credit struggles, you may not be able to get your hands on a credit card, so you may start considering taking out a loan. You may even find yourself wondering how possible it is to actually get a loan without putting yourself further in debt, possibly hurting your credit score even more.

On the bright side, it can be hard, but not completely impossible, to get unsecured loans for bad credit. Knowing that such options exist and knowing where to find them, however, are two completely different things. Being informed on the topic is one of the best ways to help you find the money you need, when you need it.

What is an Unsecured Loan?

The difference between an unsecured loan and a secured loan is actually pretty simple. Here are a few key differences you need to know to make it as easy as possible to understand:

  • Secured loans involve the loan applicant putting up some sort of collateral to get their hands on the money they need. This can be the title to a vehicle to borrowing against the equity on their home. It is vastly important to pay secured loans back in full, on time. If you fail to do so, the creditor may be able to legally obtain whatever collateral you put up to recoup any losses on the defaulted loan.
  • Unsecured loans involve no such collateral on the loan. Unsecured loans typically have higher interest rates and will impact your credit score if you fail to pay it off, but the lender will have nothing to take should you default on the loan. Usually, unsecured loans are more common for people with great credit scores.

So, How Can People With Bad Credit Scores Find Unsecured Loans?

Surely, no one is a big fan of the thought of putting up their car or part of their home as collateral when trying to get a secured loan. This type of loan is more common in people with bad credit. That doesn’t mean it is impossible for folks with bad credit to get an unsecured loan, however.

People suffering with bad credit problems can use online resources such as Let Me Bank to find lending networks that can connect them with lenders based on their credit history and qualifications. Alternatively, they can consider some of the following ideas to get an unsecured loan, even if they don’t have the best credit score.

Try To Find a Cosigner

Do you have a close friend or family member, such as a parent or sibling, who has great credit? Getting a cosigner to help out is one of the best options for people with bad credit to get their hands on the money they need through an unsecured loan. This doesn’t mean it isn’t without risks, however.

When using a cosigner, you’re going to have to consider all of the risks involved. They are going to be responsible for your loan if you aren’t able to make the payments on it, and failure to make the payments on it could harm not only your credit score, but theirs, too.

It’s a good idea to make sure you have no other possible options before you use a cosigner, because you don’t want to risk ruining your relationship (and their livelihood) should you not be able to pay off the loan.

Consider Other Avenues

There are other ways you can get a loan without having to put up collateral when you have bad credit. You could consider installment loans in Illinois, which allow you to pay off your loan over time in fixed amounts per month.

There are also cash advance loans, which are usually for smaller amounts, but could help in a pinch. These loans are usually for smaller amounts of time, usually having a date to be paid back in full within several weeks to a few months.

If all else fails, you could always go the not-usually-advised route of obtaining a payday loan, as long as you are sure you can pay it back by the due date. If you do choose to go this route, make sure you are aware of the fine print, because payday loans usually include high interest rates and other fees.

Life happens, and sometimes we all need a helping hand. If you need access to a loan with bad credit, and don’t have any sort of property you can use as collateral, consider some of these options to help you get the money you need so you can handle whatever situation life has thrown at you. Just remember to pay it off in full by the due date so your credit score doesn’t get hurt further, and you’ll be just fine.

Charlotte’s COVID-19 Response Fund Announces New Grants For Local Artists and Programmers

0

In a supplemental round of grants from the COVID-19 Response Fund, more than $434,000 was awarded to five local arts and cultural organizations to support artists, staff and online programming for children and families.

To date, more than $6 million has been granted to a range of nonprofits – from large institutions to small grassroots organizations – that primarily focus on human services. However, the grants committee has received grant applications from a wide range of nonprofits with compelling circumstances, including local arts groups.

“These latest grants will support artists, musicians, educators, professionals and more, as well as provide for online programming for families,” said Michael Marsicano, Foundation For The Carolinas president and CEO. “It’s important to remember that people working for nonprofits have also been severely impacted and are in need of support. In addition, arts and cultural institutions play a vital role in our community’s quality of life, and these grants will help support the continuation of that work online, particularly efforts aimed at children and families.”

The latest grants include:

  • $25,000 to Arts+ to support the shift to virtual programming for children.
  • $50,000 to the ASC Mecklenburg Creatives Resiliency Fund to support local artists and performers who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
  • $185,000 to the Charlotte Ballet to support its artistic, academy, education and production staff.
  • $150,000 to Children’s Theatre of Charlotte to support the artistic and creative staff and ensure online programming for children.
  • $24,232 to JazzArts Charlotte to support musicians and efforts to shift to online performances and educational programs.

Grant applications for the next cycle of funding – which is open to all Mecklenburg County 501(c)3 nonprofits that meet eligibility – are now being accepted and must be submitted by May 1 at noon. Visit uwcentralcarolinas.org/grants/COVID for eligibility requirements and to apply. A COVID-19 Response Fund Grants Committee has been established to review and distribute grants from the fund.

“The impact of this crisis reverberates throughout every aspect of our community,” said United Way of Central Carolinas President and CEO Laura Yates Clark. “These funds help to ensure the people doing the work required within these agencies are able to do so. It’s about coming together for the greater good.”

The COVID-19 Response Fund is administered through a partnership between Foundation For The Carolinas and United Way of Central Carolinas, in close coordination with the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Since the fund was launched on March 16, the more than $16 million raised has come from corporations, foundations, individuals and local government.

The Carolina Panthers Just Selected DT Derrick Brown As Their 2020 1st Round Draft Pick

0

The Carolina Panthers have just selected a new first-round draft pick. With the 7th choice in the NFL’s 2020 draft, the Panthers selected Auburn’s star defensive tackle Derrick Brown.

According to Panthers’ general manager Marty Hurney, the decision was a case of a player being the most talented and being the best fit for the team.

“Honestly, every time we met with him — I met with him after the season — I really didn’t think he would make it to seven,” Hurney said. “I think what Derrick does is, Derrick not only helps guys like KK (Short) and the rest of the line, he helps Shaq (Thompson) — he helps the linebackers. He’s a big, powerful player who’s got a real good first step. We think he’s a three-down player.”

Pete Prisco with CBS News gave the pick a grade of A+, saying “I love this pick. I love this player. I think Derrick Brown will be a force in the NFL. Plays with such power. Reminds me of the late Jerome Brown.”

It was his highest grade of the top 10 picks: “1. Bengals: QB Joe Burrow – Grade: A, 2. Redskins: EDGE Chase Young – Grade: A, 3. Lions: CB Jeff Okudah – Grade: B, 4. Giants: OT Andrew Thomas – Grade: B+, 5. Dolphins: QB Tua Tagovailoa – Grade: B, 6. Chargers: QB Justin Herbert – Grade: B, 7. Panthers, DT Derrick Brown – Grade: A+, 8. Cardinals, LB Isaiah Simmons – Grade: B-, 9. Jaguars, CB CJ Henderson – Grade: B+, 10. Browns, OT Jedrick Wills – Grade: B”

Hopefully Brown will live up to the legacy of the other top 10 picks the Panthers have made over the past 20 years:

What do you think about the Panthers’ latest 1st round pick?
