All You Need to Know About OCR Technology

0

OCR or Optical Character Recognition is a modern technology that allows you to convert several types of files, such as PDFfiles, scanned paper documents or images taken by a photographic camera into searchable and editable data. To be able to repurpose and extract data from camera images, scanned documents or image-only PDF files, you’ll need an OCR software applicationsuch as Sodapdfthat can pick out characters fromany image, put them into words and sentences, hence making it possible to edit and access the content material of the original file.

What Technologies Fabricate OCR?

The precise systems that help people to recognize characters are yet to be comprehended. However, the 3 fundamental principles are already widely recognized by experts – integrity, purposefulness, and adaptability (IPA). All these concepts form the root of Sodapdf OCR making it possible for it to replicate human=like or natural recognition.

Let us have a look on the way Sodapdf OCR recognizes textual content. First, this program evaluates the particular structure of the file image. It splits the page into several elements for example blocks of tables, images, texts, etc. The particular lines are split into characters then words and sentences. When the characters have been separated, the application analyzes them with some pattern images. It develops several practices regarding what this particular character is. Based on all these practices this program evaluates different variations of breaking of lines into text and text into characters. Immediately after finalizing significant amounts of these probabilistic practices, this program finally takes its decision, forming and presenting a human the recognized textual content.

Using OCR Software

Using Sodapdf OCR is a breeze: the process usually includes 3 stages: Scan the file, analyze it and then Save in a handy format (PDF, RTF, XLS, HTML, DOC, TXT and so forth.) or export files directly to one of MS Office programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word or even Adobe Acrobat.

On top of that, the most up-to-date version of Sodapdf OCR supports Automated Tasks function which is important when you manage routine tasks on a regular basis. With this particular feature, the recognition process runs automatically without needing to perform the steps mentioned above manually.

Benefits of OCR

With Sodapdf OCR, the recognized file looks just like the original. State-of-the-art, highly effective OCR software enables you to save time and effort while processing, creating and repurposing different files. With Sodapdf OCR, you can easily scan paper files for further editing and sharing with your partners and co-workers. You can easily extract quotes from magazines and books and utilize them for making your training course studies and documents without the hassle of retyping. With a photographic camera and Sodapdf OCR, you can easily capture textual content outdoors from posters, banners, and schedules and then utilize the captured details for your purposes. In the same manner, you can also capture information and facts from paper books and documents – for example, if there’s no scanning device readily available or you can’t use it.

  • The city of Charlotte saw a 40% jump prices, ranking us 23 out of 83 in North America.
  • The median home price in Charlotte went from $168,000 to $234,500 in 5 years.

9 Schools Recognized with N.C. School Breakfast Challenge Awards

0

Nine schools across North Carolina were recently recognized at the N.C. Child Hunger Leaders Conference with N.C. School Breakfast Challenge Awards for using innovative strategies to increase participation in School Breakfast Programs and ensuring that their students start each day with a healthy breakfast. Breakfast Challenge Winners are the top three schools at each level – elementary, middle and high – that achieved the highest percentage increases in School Breakfast Program participation. The 2018 N.C. Breakfast Challenge winners achieved increases in School Breakfast Program participation in the range of 22 to 62 percent.

  • Elementary
    • Gaston Elementary – 62 percent (Northampton County Schools)
    • W. McLauchlin Elementary – 47 percent (Hoke County Schools)
    • Central Elementary – 44 percent (Rockingham County Schools)
  • Middle
    • West Hoke Middle – 53 percent (Hoke County Schools)
    • Table Rock Middle – 31 percent (Burke County Schools)
    • Walter R. Johnson Middle – 27 percent (Burke County Schools)
  • High
    • Blue Ridge Early College – 28 percent (Jackson County Schools)
    • McDowell Early College – 27 percent (McDowell County Schools)
    • West Craven High – 22 percent (Craven County Schools)

“An important part of student success starts with a healthy breakfast at school,” said State Superintendent Mark Johnson. “Students who eat breakfast do better in the classroom. The nourishment helps them pay attention longer and learn more easily.”

All 115 local education agencies in North Carolina are included in the Breakfast Challenge, a partnership of No Kid Hungry North Carolina, the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, The Dairy Alliance and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s School Nutrition Services Section. Due to the effects of Hurricane Florence, some schools were not eligible this year due to the limited number of days that school was open and serving meals in October 2018.

The goal of the challenge is to increase participation in School Breakfast Programs. Participation rates are calculated based on School Nutrition Program meals claim data provided by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. Breakfast Challenge Awards are given based on the greatest percentage increase in participation over the previous school year. To increase participation, schools can explore a variety of ways to serve school breakfast, allowing more students the opportunity to eat a regular morning meal such as Breakfast in the Classroom, Breakfast Break, Breakfast Kiosk, Grab n’ Go Breakfast, Second Chance Breakfast, and/or Universal Free Breakfast. The outcome is that students benefit from eating a healthy breakfast every school day.

Studies show that students who eat breakfast:

  • have improved attendance and less tardiness,
  • are able to pay attention longer,
  • demonstrate better behavior in the classroom,
  • perform better on tests,
  • make fewer trips to the school nurse,
  • have a better overall diet, and
  • are more likely to be at a healthy weight.

When a student eats a nutritious meal, he or she is ready to learn. School breakfast offers several connections to learning—students have the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast each school morning closer to instructional time, students who eat a healthy breakfast are better able to focus on classroom lessons, and students can practice the nutrition lessons they learn in the classroom by making healthy choices with school breakfast.

Schools across the state are celebrating National School Breakfast Week March 4-8. Students, school staff and parents can take this opportunity to try breakfast at their school. Belmont Bi-Lo Is Closing This Month – Most Items Are Now 30-40% Off

0

I just stumbled on yet another Charlotte-area Bi-Lo store closing its doors. Last week, the Belmont Bi-Lo (6507 Wilkinson Blvd) announced they would be shutting down at the end of this month.

The manager told me the store was shutting down due to the landlord negotiating a better lease for the property with Food Lion.

Last week, most items were reduced by 15%…not very exciting, but I returned yesterday to discover that almost everything is reduced by 30-40%, including;

  • all medical and health items discounted by 40%

  • all frozen products discounted by 30%

  • most general grocery items discounted by 30%

  • and best of all… 20% off bacon (one of the few items reduced by less than 30%)

This new closing comes about a year after Bi-Lo announced they would be closing 94 underperforming stores across the country as part of a limited bankruptcy filing – including 9 stores around the Charlotte region.

Have you seen any other stores going out of business around the Charlotte?

Every Single CMS School Has Officially Become A ‘Safe Place’

0

safe-place-in-charlotteThe Relatives and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools recently announced that all 168 of the district’s schools have been designated Safe Places for young people in crisis to get help. Each school will receive Safe Place signs and site training for all employees.

The Relatives is the Safe Place agency for Mecklenburg County and has partnered with National Safe Place since 1988 to create a local network of schools, businesses, churches, transportation services and community locations willing to become Safe Places. Any child or teen can seek help at a Safe Place location and will be connected to the Youth Crisis Center.

I recently attended on of the Relative’s open houses to find out more:

“The Relatives is elated that all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are now Safe Place locations,” said Trish Hobson, executive director of The Relatives. “CMS is a powerful addition to our local Safe Place network and will elevate awareness in the community about where kids in crisis can turn for help.”

In addition to signs and training, schools will receive door and window decals, laminated procedures sheets and TXT4Help cards. When a child or teen enters a Safe Place and asks for help, it triggers a process that includes finding a comfortable place for the child or teen to wait while the Safe Place employee calls the local Safe Place agency, which in Mecklenburg County is The Relatives. A qualified volunteer or agency staff member will arrive in 30 minutes or less to arrange the necessary help and professional services.

National Safe Place is a nonprofit organization based in Louisville, Ky. It began in 1983 as a local initiative and has grown into a national network with almost 20,000 locations in the U.S. designated Safe Places. In 2009, the network introduced TXT4HELP, which gives children and teens immediate access to help and resources through texting, including the Safe Place nearest to them.

In Mecklenburg County, Safe Place has nearly 30 partners in addition to CMS. The YMCA, the Charlotte Transit System, several churches, the Charlotte Fire Department, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and several restaurants are among the partners. Annual dues to participate are $100 for each non-profit location and $200 for each for-profit location. The funding for the annual CMS dues of $16,800 will be provided by the Student Services department.

“We are so pleased to be part of this network,” said Dr. Marion R. Bish, executive director of Student Services. “This is an item that has been a priority for me given that every QT gas station in the country is a Safe Place and our schools were not! We have trained schools previously in anticipation of this, and are doing another round of training in February.”

Charlotte’s Historic Music Venue Amos’ Southend Has Just Been Resurrected

0

Great news for Charlotte’s local music scene – one of our most historic venues has just been revived – Amos’ Southend

The historic music venue originally closed after the parking lot across the street was sold and set to be redeveloped. Owner John Ellison felt that there wouldn’t be enough parking for a venue the size of Amos’ Southend to continue to pack out shows.

The news came as a shock to local music fans, as Amos’ frequently hosted legendary acts from more unique genres around the world.

We made this tribute video when the venue closed, showing some of the biggest acts they brought to Charlotte;

Now, 2 years later, Ellison is opening a smaller version of Amos’ which will hold 600 people, as opposed to the prior Amos’, which held around 1,300 people. He is hoping the new RailYard development across the street, increased light rail usage, and decreased capacity will make up for the loss of the parking lot.

Ellison can also offset much of the building’s costs with his upgraded Gin Mill bar and restaurant, which now includes a large chunk of the old Amos venue, with a full bar, restaurant, a small stage.

The smaller new Amos’ Southend venue officially reopened this past Tuesday night with a lively performance by the Black Queens. Tonight the Killakoi will take the stage and Sunday night the space will host the band ‘Nothing‘.

They now have shows scheduled through this coming December. You can check out all the upcoming shows and buy tickets here.

Family Dollar Announces Plans To Close 390 Stores

0

Family Dollar has just announced plans to close 390 stores across the country as part of a plan to correct its downward course.

The discount chain was purchased by Dollar Tree in 2015 for $8.5 billion in the hopes that the combined company would be better positioned to compete against their larger competitors Dollar General and Walmart.

The almost 400 new closings this year will be in addition to the more than 120 it closed last year. The parent company will also re-brand roughly 200 Family Dollar stores into Dollar Tree stores this year.

In a press release, Dollar Tree CEO Gary Philbin commented, “we are confident we are taking the appropriate steps to reposition our Family Dollar brand.”

The company has not released the locations of which stores they will be closing.

There are currently 20 Family Dollar stores around the Charlotte region, with most of them being on Charlotte’s West Side and in Gaston County;

Now parent company Dollar Tree recently closed the Family Dollar headquarters in Matthews, NC, consolidating the 700 jobs into the Dollar Tree headquarters in Chesapeake, VA.
