The video received such a good response the first time-around, we decided to re-edit the video for tonight’s epic rematch:

Lake Norman’s Legendary ‘Rusty Rudder’ Is About To Go Out Of Business

0

For the past 15 years, Lake Norman’s ‘Rusty Rudder’ has hosted countless events, dinners, and parties, with some of the best food and views in the region, but in less than a month, they will be forced to close their doors for good.

They just announced they will be shutting down on October 3rd after their landlord declined to renew the their lease for undisclosed reasons.

The Rusty Rutter is one of only a handful restaurants and bars on Lake Norman that provide boat slips for customers arriving by water.

Owners Eric Paul and Brian Johnston announced the closure by releasing the following statement on their Facebook page;

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce The Rusty Rudder Lake Norman will be closing its doors on October 3, 2016. Regrettably, our landlord has decided not to renew the lease after 15 years of business forcing us to close our doors.

We would like to thank everyone that has been a part of The Rudder over these amazing years. We have truly felt like a part of Cornelius and Lake Norman Community from day one, and we will miss it deeply.

We have been fortunate and blessed to call so many people our dear friends and part of our Rudder family over the years. We feel like we have grown with each of you celebrating milestones and many occasions, some happy and some sad, but all together as a community.

You have ALL helped grow The Rudder into what it has become since May of 2002, and we cannot express how much that means to us.

We would like to thank all of the vendors, businesses and musicians that have helped us create The Rudder along the way. Our local partners and support made a huge impact on our success.

We would like to thank the numerous members of our staff over the years. We were privileged to have each of you as a part of our team and one of the ‘family’. It was truly an honor to watch you evolve professionally and as personally through your journeys with us. Most importantly we would like to thank our families. The ones that helped us get this crazy idea started so many years ago. Each of you stood by us through all of the ups and the downs and there is honestly no way we can repay you for that.

While this chapter is closing we have nothing but fond memories, grateful hearts and appreciation for everything the Rusty Rudder Lake Norman brought us. We will continue to own and run The Rusty Rudder Mt. Pleasant, and we hope that anytime your travels bring you to Charleston you will look us up and come say hi.”

The Rusty Rudder will continue to operate business as usual through the month of September, with live music every Friday through Sunday, and Panther game parties during every game this month.

Everybody raise your glasses;

Great evening with good friends and my 💙 Bobbysue!

Professional Bull Riding Is Coming To Charlotte

0

professional bull riding charlotteThe ‘Major Leagues’ of bull riding has picked Charlotte as one of its premier stops on the national championship circuit.

This year’s ‘Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS)’ is the most watched Professional Bull Riders (PBR) tour in the world, which climaxes in the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada. The top 35 riders of the PBR compete in the BFTS with the rankings determined by points won.

Only the top 35 riders in the points standings can achieve seeded positions on the tour, while riders below that standard may need to ride on one of the PBR’s minor league tours (the Touring Pro Division or the BlueDEF Tour) in order to earn their way back onto the BFTS tour.

Here is some of what you might see at the event;

The competition will take place at the Spectrum Center (formerly known as the Time Warner Cable Arena) in Uptown Charlotte on the weekend of September 17th.

This Charlotte High School Football Team Just Started Their Season Ranked #10 In The Nation

0

Charlotte has always been a high school football powerhouse. We’ve dominated the state through Independence (three state championships), Butler (three state championships), and Charlotte Catholic (two state championships), but over the past several years, a new star has emerged.

Last season Mallard Creek High School won their third straight N.C. 4AA state championship, and now they’ve been ranked by MaxPreps as the #10 team in the nation going into the 2016-2017 season.

They may be one of the best teams in the nation, but they also have one of the most difficult schedules in the nation.

The Mallard Creek Mavericks kick off their season at S.C. 2A state champion Dillon, then play on the road against three-time N.C. 4AA champ Butler, followed by another national power, Duncan Byrnes (SC).

Their 4th week is a bye week, then they head down to Rock Hill to play the S.C. 3A state champ South Pointe of Rock Hill (SC).

That means that in their first four weeks of football, they’ll be playing against two state champs and two national powers – and only one of those games will be at home.

Do you think they’ll win their 4th straight title this year?

Local Charlotte Artist Painted The Portrait of Mother Teresa For Her Canonization Today in Vatican City

0

charlotte artist paints mother teresaThis afternoon, the work of local Charlotte artist was lifted high above St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, high above Pope Francis and an estimated 120,000 people during the canonization of Mother Teresa.

The ceremony was the highlight of Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy and possibly one of the defining moments of his entire papacy.

The canonization portrait of Mother Teresa is meant to reflect her joy and her selflessness, commented Charlotte artist Chas Fagan.

In a press conference with reporters from around the world, he noted “The credit lies more with the subject of the painting than with the painter.”

Fagan’s portrait of Mother Teresa is also being displayed in the U.S. Capitol rotunda and National Cathedral. It was originally commissioned by the Knights Of Columbus after his previously built them the a stunning statue of Pope St. John Paul II.

When he was initially commissioned to do his latest portrait, he had “no idea” it would be the official one hanging in St. Peter’s. Fagan submitted initial sketches and the whole process “took at least a month” before he could even begin painting, which then took six more weeks in total.

Fagan, has also created several scupltures and paintings that are displayed around the Charlotte region, including the Spirit Of Mecklenburg statue;

What do you think of his painting of Mother Teresa?

Charlotte Area Realtor Taken To Hospital After Open House Visitor Puts Date Rape Drug In Her Drink

0

charlotte area realtor given date rape drugA local realtor was hospitalized and had to have her stomach pumped after she had a date rape drug slipped into her water bottle at an open house she was hosting.

The CMPD report notes that the incident occurred at a new CalAtlantic subdivision in Waxhaw. CalAtlantic quickly sent out a letter to all their sales reps detailing the incident, and warning to all of their agents to always be aware of their surroundings.

The letter states that a customer was “acting suspicious” while in the model home on two separate occasions, each time quickly left when another customer showed up. On their second visit, the customer was seen near the realtor’s desk — during a showing.

The letter then notes that the realtor drank from her water bottle that was left on the desk unattended. Within 20 minutes, her heart started racing, legs went numb, and called 911. She was quickly rushed to the hospital where analysis found traces of a date rape drug was taken to the hospital. According to the letter, a toxicology screening of her bottle found traces of the date rape drug.

“A realtor sometimes they are in a house showing a house and they’re by themselves so its very important they take all their security measure to stay safe,” commented CMPD Officer Johnathan Frisk with the Crime Prevention Division.

The National Association of Realtors recommended that realtors always keep their cell phone nearby, let someone know where they are, and to always be aware of their surroundings.

Many Realtors have now begun to keep date rape drug test strips on hand to quickly test any suspicious drinks during showings.

Police are still looking for the suspect and no charges have been filed.

The truck will be called “Smokn’ Aces,’’ after Cam’s nickname – Ace Boogie.

The truck will be parked in the Goodyear Arts lot by the Duke Energy Building Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with all of the proceeds from the first week going toward a program for at-risk individuals in Charlotte.

Newton also noted that he won’t be inside the truck – he’d rather stay outside eating. “I wanted to be closer to the people,’’ Newton said.

Charlotte’s South End Is Now The Fastest Growing Apartment Market In The Nation

0

Charlotte’s South End recently took the top spot as the #1 fastest growing apartment submarket in America.

RealPage, a property management software company compiled the research on apartment trends across the nation. Charlotte’s South End beat out San Jose, Nashville, and several sections of Texas to earn the top spot.

RealPage notes that South End’s “inventory growth rate since 2012 is 81.9% – 15.3 percentage points higher than the No. 2 submarket, North San Jose/Milpitas.”

I had the privilage of interviewing Dave Hickman, the regional president of Apartment Life, managing the Care’s Program for several of South End’s largest apartment complexes:

Dave Hickman’s new book is now available on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and Books A Million stores across the country.
