CMPD Drags PETA Protesters Off The Field During Belk Bowl (Video)

Moments after Texas A&M University (TAMU) scored their first touchdown against Wake Forest University during today’s Belk Bowl in Uptown Charlotte, three PETA protestors rushed the field and began running around and waving their signs for over 1 1/2 minutes.

The trio wore sweatshirts and waved signs that read, “TAMU: Stop Cruel Dog Tests.”

After about a minute and a half of running around undisturbed, CMPD officers calmly walked toward the girls to usher them off the field, as they approached, the girls quickly sat down and resisted leaving the field. More officers had to then come onto the field to literally drag them off.

Massive Fire Erupts in North East Charlotte

A massive house fire has just erupted in North East Charlotte.

3 Fire trucks, medical units, and police are now on scene as firefighters battle the blaze.

The Charlotte Fire Department just posted these shots of the scene;

The fire started at around 3pm this afternoon at 2709 Penninger Circle;

The Charlotte Fire Department does not yet know the cause of the fire or how exensive the damage is.

Charlotte Preparing For One of The Longest Cold Snaps In Years

Drain your fountains, let your faucets drip, and put on as many layers as you can – it’s about to get cold!

Over the next 7 days, we will be seeing one of the longest and coldest fronts in over 2 years as a massive wave of arctic air sweeps across America.

From December 31st through January 7th, Charlotte’s highs will remain in the 30s and our lows will drop to the teens and below (wind chills could even hit 0).

If you moved here from Ohio or New York (like myself), you may be rolling your eyes, but if you’re from Florida or California, get ready.

To prepare your car, top off all your fluids, especially your oil, power steering fluid, and antifreeze. You’ll also want to check your tires and make sure your air pressure is over 32 PSI.

To prepare your home, make sure to drain all fountains and exterior water fixtures. Always let at least one of your faucets drip to avoid freezing pipes. Consider buying a humidifier if you’re sensitive to dry air. If you have an older home with older windows, investing in some shrink film insulation will save you a ton on your heating bill.

To prepare yourself, buy some thermal gloves, a warm hat, and a winter jacket. If you’re going to spend any length of time outside, you may even want to consider buying an electric heating jacket.

Charlotteans Are Rushing To Prepay 2018 Property Taxes Before Trump’s Tax Plan Takes Effect

With the passage of President Trump’s new tax plan people across the country have been rushing to pre-pay their property taxes before the first of the year when the policies will go into effect.

The new tax code limits the amount of money you will be able to deduct for your state income and property taxes to $10,000. Under the old tax code, taxpayers were able to deduct all of their property taxes and state income taxes from their federal income taxes.

This past Wednesday, the IRS officially announced that anyone who pre-payments their 2018 property taxes may be able to deduct the full amount from their federal taxes, if they’re made before the end of the year and if the tax was also assessed before the end of the year.

Mecklenburg County officials have also announced that they’re now able to accept 2018 prepayments after their system was taken down earlier this month by hackers.

They’re still not completely back up, so they can only accept prepayments in check or money order.

The county said that all prepayments must include a note that indicates the property’s parcel number and that it’s for a 2018 prepayment.

Prepayments must be dropped off at the Mecklenburg County Tax Offices at 700 E. Stonewall St. in Uptown Charlotte by the end of the day today.

JJ Red Hots Celebrating The Grand Opening Of Their Uptown Location Next Week

One of Charlotte’s most famous hot dog makers (second only to Vic The Chili Man) has just announced their grand opening date for their first Uptown location.

We first reported last December that the new location would be built at 400 S. Tryon St., near the corner of Church St. and Martin Luther King Blvd.;

They initially announced the grand opening on their Instagram page;

Their press release stated that the first 50 customers in line will get a free hot dog on January 2nd (doors open at 3pm).

The new location will feature an exclusive signature dog they will call the “Uptown Downtown” – a flame grilled dog topped with chili, queso, bacon, onions, and mustard.

They will be open daily from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m., starting on January 3rd.

Police Asking For Help In Finding Thieves Who Stole Panthers Recliner From 7-Eleven

The Lancaster County Sherriff’s office is asking for help in identifying 3 thieves who stole a large Panthers-themed chair from a 7-Eleven.

At about 1:40 am, a man and woman walked into the 7-Eleven on Charlotte Hwy in Indian Land. The woman distracted the employees at the counter while the man walked to the back of the store and grabbed the chair. The couple then carried it to a GMC Yukon outside and handed it off to a 3rd person in the vehicle, according to Lancaster News.

The Sheriff’s Office posted 5 pictures of the bandits on their Facebook page asking people to call in if they have any information about the trio;

New NC Law Will Fight Opioid Abuse By Limiting Access To Prescription Medication

In just 4 day’s North Carolina’s new STOP law will officially go into effect, a law designed to target prescription opioid abusers and addicts across our state.

Our state is currently seeing an average of 3 drug-overdose deaths per day, with about half being caused by prescription painkillers (opioids), according to the NCDPH. Last year North Carolina physicians and physicians assistants prescribed over 675 million opioid pills to a state with a population of just over 10 million people. 4 North Carolina towns have even been ranked among the worse places for opioid abuse in America.

A large number of those prescriptions either go directly to addicts or are sold on the street for fast cash.

This past summer, NC lawmakers decided that something needed to be done. They passed the Strengthen Opioid Misuse Prevent Act (STOP Act) with overwhelming support from both the NC House and Senate.

According to the new STOP law;

“Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners prescribing targeted controlled substances are required to personally consult with the supervising physician if (1) the patient is being treated at a facility that primarily engages in the treatment of pain by prescribing narcotic medications or advertises for any type of pain management services, and (2) the therapeutic use of the prescription will, or is expected to, exceed 30 days.

Furthermore, when prescribing to the same patient continuously, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are required to consult with a supervising physician at least once every 90 days to verify that the prescription remains medically appropriate.”

The new law limits how many drugs doctors can prescribe – 5 days worth for acute pain from broken bones or a car crash and 7 days worth after a surgery.

It will also require doctors and pharmacists to report all prescriptions to a state-controlled substance database.

2017 Gallup Poll Ranks Charlotte Native One Of The Most Admired Men In The World

Charlotte’s very own Billy Graham has just been ranked one of the most admired men in the world in this year’s Gallup Poll.

The legendary evangelist, who’s about to turn 100 years old, has now made the list a record 61 times. This year he ranked 4th behind Barack Obama (#1), Donald Trump (#2), and Pope Francis (#3).

The poll was based on phone calls made Dec. 4-11 to a random sample of 1,049 adults in all 50 states plus D.C.

Gallup also asked people what women they admired the most, with Hillary Clinton ranking 1st, Michelle Obama 2nd, Oprah Winfrey 3rd, and Elizabeth Warren 4th.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have been ranked by American’s as the most admired man and woman every year for the past 10 years. This year they saw much narrower margins, with Obama edging out Donald Trump, 17% to 14%, and Clinton edges out Michelle Obama, 9% to 7%.

New Census Data Ranks North Carolina One Of The Fastest Growing States in America

The US Census just released their new 2017 population estimates showing that North Carolina saw one of the highest population increases in the nation.

The Tar Heel state grew by a whopping 117,000 residents between July 2016-July 2017, making us the 5th fastest growing state in the nation. This represented a 1.15% growth rate – almost double the national average.

According to the Census Bureau, “the U.S. population grew by 2.3 million between July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017, representing a 0.72 percent increase to 325.7 million. Furthermore, the population of voting-age residents (adults age 18 and over) grew to 252.1 million (77.4 percent of the 2017 total population), an increase of 0.93 percent from 2016 (249.5 million). Net international migration decreased 1.8 percent between 2016 and 2017, making it the first drop since 2012-2013. However, net international migration continues to be a significant factor in the population growth of the United States, adding just over 1.1 million people in the last year.”

We kept our spot as the 9th most populated state between Georgia (#8) and Michigan (#10).

South Carolina also ranked on the top 10 fastest growing states, with a total population growth of 64,547 people.
