In the 1990s, Andrei Skoch went into business. His business partner at the time was Lev Kvetnoi. Skoch’s charitable organization financed the construction of the Martial Arts Palace in Stary Oskol. It offers boxing and wrestling classes. It was equipped with a gym and offices for coaches and doctors. The sports hall can accommodate 120 athletes and 500 spectators. A total of 350 million rubles was allocated to the project.

Andrei Vladimirovich’s Foundation also supports other charities. Thus, it allocated 19 million rubles to the Third Age Foundation to provide social support to needy elderly people. Another 16 million rubles were transferred to the Outgate in Belgorod Foundation, which develops programs to assist with issues related to autism.

Support during the COVID-19 pandemic

Skoch’s Foundation provided substantial assistance to hospitals, clinics, and volunteers in the Belgorod region facing the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. In a month and a half alone, about 60 million rubles were allocated from the Pokolenie Foundation budget to support residents of the region. The organization donated a Lada Largus car to one of the local hospitals to provide doctors with an opportunity to respond promptly to calls. Personal protective equipment was also sent to various healthcare facilities: thousands of masks, respirators, goggles, suits, etc. Volunteers received 10,000 masks and 7,500 pairs of gloves. 

Emergency control staff received special equipment designed for the disinfection of buildings and streets. The first object chosen for disinfection was kindergarten No 45 in Belgorod, where around 150 children go to learn.

The North Carolina Zoo is pleased to announce it has once again received the honor of accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Every five years, the Zoo is required to go through the entire application process to retain its accreditation. The AZA awarded accreditation to the Zoo following a rigorous inspection visit earlier in the year.

Fewer than 10% of all zoos and aquariums worldwide meet the standards to earn accreditation from the AZA.

“The AZA has continuously accredited the North Carolina Zoo for more than 37 years, demonstrating the Zoo’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare and veterinary care, conservation, education, and guest experience,” said Deputy Secretary Jeff Michael of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. “We’re proud our state’s zoo is recognized as a leader in animal care and conservation.

“The North Carolina Zoo is a wonderful place to explore nature and with the AZA Accreditation, guests can be assured they are supporting a world-class operation that puts animal care and conservation as its highest priorities,” said Zoo Director and CEO Pat Simmons. “Congratulations to the entire staff for their dedication and excellent work and I’m so proud to be part of this remarkable team.”

The accreditation process includes a detailed application and a meticulous, on-site, multiple-day inspection by an independent team of trained zoological professionals. Major Wildfire Spreading Across North Carolina’s Beloved Pilot Mountain

A major wildfire is now spreading across North Carolina’s famed Pilot Mountain and its surrounding state park. It’s now burned several hundred acres and shows no signs of slowing down.

The fire was first discovered on Saturday afternoon from an unknown source.

As of this morning, the fire has already consumed over 300 acres of dry forest and officials are now saying it could burn up to 600 more acres before firefighters will be able to stop or contain it.

NYC Based Diggz Expanding Their Popular Roommate Finder App To Charlotte

Diggz, a popular roommate finder app that was founded by a former UNC Charlotte Student, just announced plans to finally launch a roommate finder in Charlotte.

“I’ve been really excited to launch our app in Charlotte. I still remember driving to campus, plucking phone numbers from paper ads that were pinned to the bulletin board and finding my first apartment and  roommates that way. Definitely different times,”said Rany Burstein, Diggz’s Founder and CEO who spent his freshman and sophomore years at UNCC’s Belk College of Business.

Diggz uses an algorithm to help people find like-minded roommates that fit one’s lifestyle and preferences. Their algorithm provides personalized and relevant results of prospective roommates based on preferred neighborhoods, work schedule, cleanliness, smoking and drinking habits, mutual friends and more. Prospective roommates can interact with each other by ‘liking’ each other (Tinder style) or just by sending a message to their top prospects.

“There’s been a need for a service like ours across the country even more so since the  pandemic, and not just in the bigger cities. People are leaving expensive cities like New York and San Francisco in favor of more reasonably priced cities that have just as much to offer. Especially when you also have the option to work remotely,” said Burstein.

Diggz first launched in 2015, and has since become the go-to roommate finder app in 23 major metro areas nationwide and Canada.
