Two of Charlotte’s largest roller coasters have just been shut down after a deadly incident on a similarly sized roller coaster at a Six Flags park.
According to Cobb County Police, one person died and several others were injured at Six Flags Over Georgia. Cobb County Police are investigating, but officials have not confirmed how the person died.
Authorities also have not formally identified the coaster involved. Local television footage showed passengers being evacuated from Goliath, a 200-foot coaster that reaches 70 mph.
Six Flags said it closed similar rides “out of an abundance of caution” while authorities investigate, including;
- Fury 325 — Carowinds: 325 feet tall and speeds up to 95 mph
- Thunder Striker — Carowinds: 232 feet tall and speeds up to 80 mph
- Raging Bull — Six Flags Great America
- Goliath — Six Flags Magic Mountain
- Nitro — Six Flags Great Adventure
- Leviathan and Behemoth — Canada’s Wonderland
- Orion and Diamondback — Kings Island
All nine closed coasters were built by Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard.
Six Flags said the closures were made “out of an abundance of caution” while the Georgia incident is investigated.
The company has not said when Fury 325 or Thunder Striker will reopen.
