Target is launching what it calls the biggest transformation in company history, and Charlotte is one of the key markets included in the massive overhaul.
The retailer announced plans to spend roughly $5 billion this year on more than 130 store remodels, 30 new stores, and major technology and supply chain upgrades nationwide.
Charlotte joins cities like Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas, and Los Angeles as priority markets for the upgrades.
Target says the remodels are designed to create a more modern, convenient, and visually engaging shopping experience.
“These investments are all about making Target an even easier, more inspiring and friendly place to shop,” says Laurie Mahowald, senior vice president, Target Properties in a press release. “We’re evolving our stores in ways that reflect how guests shop today — from more intuitive layouts to expanded assortments — while also strengthening the role our stores play in fulfillment and our long-term growth.”
Many updated stores will feature:
- Expanded grocery sections with more pantry staples and frozen foods
- Modern décor, upgraded lighting, and new signage
- Enhanced beauty, apparel, and home merchandise displays
- Larger Drive Up, Order Pickup, and returns areas
- Updated checkout and self-checkout lanes
- Modernized restrooms and nursing spaces
Some stores will also receive more energy-efficient refrigeration, lighting, and HVAC systems.
The company says the changes reflect how customers increasingly blend online shopping with in-store pickup and same-day fulfillment services.
According to Target, remodeled stores typically see higher customer traffic and increased sales after renovations are completed.
The company says about 76% of U.S. households live within 10 miles of a Target location, making stores increasingly important for fast fulfillment and online order pickup.
For Charlotte shoppers, the investment could mean larger grocery sections, quicker pickup services, and noticeably redesigned stores over the coming months.
