All-Day Breakfast Restaurant Ruby Sunshine Coming To South End

Brunch lovers rejoice—all-day breakfast restaurant Ruby Sunshine is coming to Charlotte’s South End neighborhood. Located at 332 W. Bland Street, Ruby Sunshine will offer Big Easy twists on Southern brunch classics, including benedicts, pancakes and French Toast, as well as eye-opening cocktails.

The restaurant—which will be the first Ruby Sunshine location to open in North Carolina—is the latest concept from Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group; the collective behind the acclaimed New Orleans-based eatery Ruby Slipper Café.

“We’re looking forward to introducing the Charlotte community to Ruby Sunshine and the New Orleans flair that our restaurants are famous for,” said owner Jennifer Weishaupt. “Charlotte is known for its thriving and eclectic culinary scene, and we could not be more excited to be a part of it.”

Nestled in a historic building in the South End’s burgeoning Gold District, the 5,000-square-foot restaurant will offer a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for nearby families, residents, area-professionals and visitors to enjoy. With indoor and outdoor seating available, the restaurant will be able to comfortably accommodate 187 guests and will also feature original 1920s-architectural details such as exposed brick and timber beams that pay homage to the building’s historic past.

Founded in post-Katrina New Orleans, Jennifer and Erich Weishaupt revitalized a blighted corner store into a cozy restaurant, with the hope that it would help draw people back to the community – and that’s exactly what it did.

Duke Energy Employees in Charlotte Published The First Children’s Book About Nuclear Energy

Duke Energy just published their first children’s book to teach kids about nuclear energy.

“Marie’s Electric Adventure” is a story about a girl named Marie and her talking dog, Einstein, who wants to find out why her night light goes out.

In the book, Marie and Einstein set out on an adventure together to learn together how nuclear energy works and where her electricity comes from.

When they arrive at their neighborhood nuclear power plant, a talking tree teaches them how it all works;

Duke Energy employees in Charlotte (members of the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN)) took the lead to write the book.

“I am so proud of the Duke Energy NAYGN members who teamed up to make this project a reality,” said Amanda Lang, chapter lead of the Duke Energy NAYGN chapter. “Writing a children’s book was a very different task than what we typically do on a daily basis. Although we were out of our element, we leaned on community members (family, friends and teachers) to make it a success – a true team effort.”

Duke Energy is more focused on nuclear power than most power companies in America. While 34% of Duke Energy’s electric output comes from nuclear, nuclear only makes up about 20% of American’s total energy production. Duke currently operates six nuclear power plants – three in North Carolina and three in South Carolina.

Hickory Man Spots Bigfoot In His Woods – Takes Video of Creature and Footprints

Hickory native Doug Teague has just taken what may be the clearest videos of a North Carolina bigfoot ever seen in our state.

Teague spotted the creature while he was walking his dog ‘Crazy Daisy’ through a patch of woods just outside of the city of Hickory, NC. He was checking on some of his trail cameras when he heard some loud knocking sounds off in the distance.

When he walked closer to investigate, he spotted the creature on top of a ridge and began to record;

He said the creature could not have been a bear since it began throwing rocks at him when he approached.

Teague is a member of the Catawba Valley Bigfoot Research Club and the Facebook group ‘Bigfoot 911‘.

bigfoot-911-festival-in-marionThe group will be hosting a Bigfoot Festival next month on September 14th, from 9am – 4pm, sponsored by the Marion Downtown Business Association and McDowell Chamber of Commerce.

Organizers are planning on having a wide variety of craft and food vendors, with a heavy emphasis on Sasquatch-themed items. There will also be book signings, lectures, and live demonstrations about how to hunt for the mysterious creature.

Several booths will be set up for Bigfoot hunters to present their photographs and plaster casts from expeditions into the woods.

This year, they will be adding the first annual Bigfoot Chase 5k. The new 5K will take participants throughout downtown Marion as well as past some places you might spot Bigfoot himself.

An Estimate of 6,000 New Apartments Are Waiting to Be Opened This Year in Charlotte Metro

U.S. apartment construction culminated in 2017 with an impressive 331,765 apartments delivered and has been slowing down since then, with projections for 2019 totaling less than 300K.

According to Tara Jeffcoat, senior research analyst at Yardi Matrix: “Rising construction costs and a tight labor supply certainly contribute to a flattening and decline of expected completions, but 2019 is part of a larger trend of developers gearing up for next cycle. Although completions peaked in 2017, there is a significant number of prospective properties in the pipeline.”

Following the national trend, construction in the Charlotte area is starting to hit the breaks as 6,000 units are expected to open, 2% less than last year.

Here are a few highlights:

– Projections show that 6,003 new apartments will come online in Charlotte metro by the end of 2019 —  that’s 2% less than last year’s 6,116 deliveries.

– Unsurprisingly, the city of Charlotte is delivering most of the supply, as 5211 new units are projected to open here in 2019 — that’s nearly 500 more units than those delivered in 2018.

– The Charlotte metropolitan area is building almost as much as Silicon Valley this year and a few hundred more units than Greater Boston.

Trump’s 2020 Campaign Announces Date and Time of Upcoming NC Rally

Trump’s 2020 campaign just announced where and when they will be coming to North Carolina to help campaign for Dan Bishop in his upcoming special election against Dan McCready.

According to the campaign, the President will be holding a rally on Monday, Sept. 9th at the Fayetteville Airport starting at 7pm. You can register for the event here.

Last week he tweeted that he’s “Looking forward to soon being in North Carolina to hold a big rally for wonderful Dan Bishop, who is running for Congress…”

The President Tweet also accuses Dan McCready (Bishop’s opponent) of liking the ‘Squad’ more than North Carolina, in reference to four ethnic minority Democrat members of Congress who the President recently told to ‘go back’ to the ‘broken’ and ‘crime-infested’ countries ‘from which they came’.

The special election between Dan Bishop and Dan McCready is now set for September 10th. The election is being held due to Republican Mark Harris winning and being found guilty of voter fraud, Harris declined to run again in the special election.

There has only been 1 poll of the race that’s been released so far, showing both Bishop and McCready tied at 46% each.

Snow lovers rejoice!

The Charlotte region (and most of the Southeast) is expected to receive an above average amount of snow throughout the upcoming winter months.

The new 2020 Farmers Almanac has just been released and calls for “above-normal winter precipitation over the eastern third of the country…our outlook forewarns of not only a good amount of snow, but also a wintry mix of rain, sleet—especially along the coast.”

While the almanac certainly has good news for snow lovers, it’s bad news for those who dread the winter. “According to our long-range outlook, spring will be slow to start with winter lingering until April.”

When considering some of the most affluent and capital-heavy areas of America, the mind will naturally wander to locations such as New York, Connecticut, California and Texas. Indeed, the slew of holiday homes in the Hamptons and Berkshires, the properties nestled in the hills of Los Angeles and the old money of Texas high society would lead to this impression. Yet, there is one city that is leading the way with how it handles money – Charlotte, North Carolina.

This news comes primarily from the news that BB&T and SunTrust are merging to form Truist and basing their headquarters in Charlotte, but also the fact that Charlotte is aptly named the nation’s second banking capital.

Charlotte is the Nation’s Fifth-Fastest Growing City

Indeed, both the Bank of America and Wells Fargo are situated in Charlotte, while Honeywell and Lowe’s have both announced that they will be moving to the city. This will undoubtedly lead to job creation and investment in the local infrastructure as thousands involved in the finance and tech fields will call the city their home. Charlotte is the fifth fastest growing city in the USA, and with incentives that attract such companies, that’s no surprise. Part of the reason for the success of Charlotte is that it is offering a quality of life that is missing from some of the wealthier locations – namely LA and NYC. By offering not just a way of life that everyone strives to have, but also work that looks into the technological and financial future of the country, Charlotte offers the best of both worlds. It already has a reputation for being strong in the financial community, and every step forward by several companies shows why this is.

Still, when it comes to finance, it’s all about what the future can offer. Currently, Charlotte is also making a name for itself in the field of cryptocurrency. There are a range of Bitcoin ATMs as well as companies such as Leidos, CyberCoders and IBM which are dabbling in blockchain, the underlying format of cryptocurrency. The future is definitely revolving around alternatives to how we saw and handled money before. Digital payment options are on the rise, too, with standard businesses looking at new ways in which they incorporate e-wallets and digital payment methods into their existing structures. With home values up 5.2% from last year but affordability dropping as mortgage rates get higher, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2019’s Best Real-Estate Markets.

To determine the most attractive real-estate markets in the U.S., WalletHub compared 300 cities across 23 key metrics. The data set ranges from median home-price appreciation to home sales turnover rate to job growth.

Charlotte ranked 22nd overall and 5th among large cities.
